Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan berdasarkan kesulitan yang dihadapi mahasiswa dalam menyimak element of pronunciation dikarenakan sistem pelafalan dalam bahasa Inggris berbeda dengan sistem ejaan yang berakibat pada rendahnya haasil belajar menyimak pada materi tersebut. Untuk itu, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar menyimak mahasiswa dengan menerapkan metode Project Based Learning. Penelitian ini menggunakan desain penelitian tindakan kelas yang dilakukan dalam dua siklus. Subjek penelitian ini adalah mahasiswa pendidikan bahasa Inggris, semester dua kelas A pagi yang berjumlah 44 orang yang dipilih berdasarkan teknik purposive sampling. Data dianalisa berdasarkan hasil pre-tes dan post-tes, serta observasi yang dilakukan selama proses pembelajaran. Perbandingan hasil tes menunjukkan ada peningkatan kemampuan menyimak mahasiswa pada materi elements of pronunciation dari 45% pada pre-tes, menjadi 70% pada post test siklus pertama, dan 91% pada post test siklus kedua. Peningkatan kemampuan mencakup penguasaan pada tekanan (stress), irama (rhythm), jeda (juncture), dan intonasi (intonation).Kata Kunci: project based learning, menyimak, pelafalan

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui “Pengaruh penerapan strategi pembelajaran the power of two terhadap kemampuan menulis resensi pada siswa kelas XI SMA Negeri 1 Sungai Ambawang”. Metode pada penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen, bentuk penelitiannya adalah pre-experimental design, rancangan penelitian yang digunakan adalah penelitian one group pretest posttest design. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan terdapat pengaruh penerapan strategi pembelajaran the power of two terhadap kemampuan menulis resensi pada siswa kelas XI MIPA 4 SMA Negeri 1 Sungai Ambawang yaitu sebelum menerapkan strategi pembelajaran the power of two siswa memperoleh nilai rata-rata sebesar 61,83. Sedangkan setelah menerapkan strategi pembelajaran the power of two siswa memperoleh nilai rata-rata sebesar 75,58.Kata Kunci : strategi pembelajaran, the power of two, menulis

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan menghitung besarnya pengaruh penggunaan model pembelajaran Problem Based Learning (PBL), motivasi belajar siswa, dan interaksi antara penggunaan model pembelajaran PBL dan motivasi belajar siswa terhadap prestasi hasil belajar siswa menulis eksplanasi. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode eksperimen jenis quasi. Variabel bebasnya model pembelajaran PBL dan motivasi belajar siswa, sedangkan variabel terikatnya hasil prestasi belajar siswa menulis eksplanasi. Data dikumpulkan dengan kuesioner dan tes. Teknik analisis data dengan uji hipotesis analisis variansi dua jalan dengan sel tak sama. Hasil penelitian menyimpulkan bahwa model Problem Based Learning lebih efektif daripada metode ceramah; motivasi belajar siswa tinggi, dan tidak ada interaksi antara penerapan model pembelajaran PBL dan motivasi belajar siswa terhadap hasil prestasi belajar siswa menulis eksplanasi.Kata kunci: Problem Based Learning, motivasi belajar, menulis eksplanasi

Abstract

Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui kualitas pembelajaran keterampilan menyimak iklan media cetak dengan menggunakan metode cooperative learning di sekolah dasar. Penelitian ini dilaksanakn dalan beberapa tahap, yaitu perencanaan, tindakan, pelaksanaan, observasi, dan refleksi. Subjek dalam penelitian ini adalah siswa dan guru SD negeri 42 Pontianak.Teknik pengumpulan data yang dilakukan adalah dengan teknik observasi, wawancara, dan tes. Teknik analisis data menggunakan teknik analisis kritis komperatif dan teknik analisis kritis. Berdasrkan hasil penelitian dapat disimpulkan bahwa metode cooperative learning dapat meningkatkan proses pembelajran menyimak iklan media cetak. Hal ini dapat terlihat dari hasil pengamatan dan refleksi sebagai berikut(1) minat siswa dalam menentukan unsure-unsur identifkasi iklan meningkat;(2) guru mampu meningkatkan minat belajara siswa;(3) guru mampu menerapkan metode cooperative learning; (4) guru mampu mengelola kelas; (5) guru mampu meningkatkan rasa nasionalisme siswa.Kata Kunci: cooperative learning, media, iklan, keterampilan, menyimak

Abstract

Penelitian studi kasus ini dimaksudkan untuk mecari tahu apakah ada hubungan antara keterampilan membaca dengan self-esteem mahasiswa semestrer dua Program Studi Bahasa Inggris IKIP PGRI Pontianak tahun akademik 2016/2017. Adapun kelas yang menjadi sampel adalah kelas A sore yang berjumlah 34 orang. Penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis korelasi, yakni studi yang membahas tentang derajat hubungan antara variabel-variabel. Pengumpulan data dalam penelitian ini menggunakan dua metode yaitu soal tertulis dan kuesioner. Dari data yang diperoleh dapat disimpulkan bahwa harga diri/self esteem memainkan peran penting dalam keterampilan membaca. Mahasiswa dengan harga diri yang tinggi cenderung tidak merasa malu atau takut ketika mereka membaca teks. Sementara mahasiswa dengan harga diri yang rendah cenderung takut melakukannya.Kata kunci: mahasiswa, keterampilan membaca, teks bacaan, self esteem

Abstract

This research was aimed to investigate the significance of correlation between students’ reading comprehension toward students’ English academic achievement. The population was the second grade students. By using cluster random sampling, XI IPA 1 and XI IPS 2 were being the sample. The total number of population was 195 students and the total number of sample was 66 students. Written test framed by the aspects of reading comprehension was applying to figure out the students’ reading comprehension score. Documentation technique of students’ English report book was applying to figure out the students’ English academic achievement score. The result shows that there is a significant correlation between students’ reading comprehension and students’ English academic achievement. It is implied the students’ who got higher in reading comprehension test tend to get outstanding score also in their English academic achievement. In addition, it can be one of the concern contribution to increase students’ English academic achievement through implementation of reading comprehension’s aspects. The teacher needs to implement the aspects of reading comprehension as the focus learning material and synergize it with the other main aspects of English academic achievement.Keywords: Correlation, Reading Comprehension, English Academic Achievement.

Abstract

Students are required to express something in the form of written expression because it is one of skill in learning a language. Students are required to be good at grammar to regulate every word with a good structure. However, there is an error made by students that are caused by some grammatical factors such as punctuation, word selection, tenses, spelling, use of article and capitalization. This research is qualitative research, and the writer describes the error made by students by looking at the factors commonly cause the error. The results showed that student error in writing lies in misused form, words form, words choice, verb tense, misplace words, spelling, punctuation, capitalization, and article. The occurrence of an error in writing is due to first language interference, style of translation, and carefulness in writing. The dominant error made by the student lies in the use of the word form in the sentence.Keywords: analysis, writing error, grammatical errors.

Abstract

This research was purposed to find out how the use of structural analysis improve the reading comprehension of E class second semester students of Business English and Management Major Tonggak Equator Polytechnic in the academic year 2017-2018 and how significant does the use of structural analysis improve the reading comprehension of E class second semester students of Business English and Management Major Tonggak Equator Polytechnic in academic year 2017-2018. This research was classroom action research which was set out in two cycles, they are the first and second cycle. The subject of this research was E class second semester students of Business English and Management Concentration of Tonggak Equator Polytechnic in the academic year 2017-2018. Field note and test were used in collecting the data. The test consists of pre-test and progress-test. The data of the students' pre-test and progress-test score were analyzed by using the mean score and the data of the observation by using field note was analyzed descriptively. The finding of the research was structural analysis positively improved the reading comprehension of E class second semester students of Business English and Management Major Tonggak Equator Polytechnic in academic year 2017-2018 within two cycles, and the significance of the use of structural analysis in improving the reading comprehension of E class second semester students of Business English and Management Major Tonggak Equator Polytechnic in academic year 2017-2018 could be seen based on the test given they were 64 for the pre-test, 71.6 for the first progress-test and 83.4 for the second progress-test, and from the field note, that the students looked tired, sleepy, looked for answer from student beside them and could not finish the test by the time given by the researcher in the first cycle but have significant progress in the second cycle that the students looked more relax in doing the test and could finish the test by the time given by the researcher.Keywords: reading comprehension, structural analysis, classroom action research.

Abstract

The main objective of the research is to find out: (1) whether Drama technique is more effective than Guided Conversation Activity Technique to teach Speaking; (2) whether the students who have high self-actualization have better speaking skill than those who have low self-actualization; and (3) whether there is an interaction between teaching techniques and students’ self-actualization. The method of this research was quantitative research using an experimental design. The research findings are: (1) Drama Technique is significantly different from Guided Conversation Activity (GCA) technique to teach speaking because Fo is higher than Ft. (2) the speaking skill of the students who have high self-actualization is significantly different from that of those who have low self-actualization if viewed from the result of ANOVA because Fo is higher than Ft. (3) there is an interaction between teaching techniques and self-actualization for teaching speaking because Fo is higher than Ft.Keywords: drama, self-actualization, guided conversation, speaking.
