Abstract

The research objective was to determine (1) the development of values from the second principle of Pancasila for sixth graders; (2) what are the constraints of sixth grade teachers in developing the values of the second principle of Pancasila; (3) the solution from teachers to overcome the obstacles in developing the values to the learners. Data were collected using an open questionnaire. Informants were the teachers of sixth graders. Data were analyzed using data reduction, data display, and conclusion/ verification. To develop the values of the second principle of Pancasila: (a) students needed the examples from various stakeholders such as teachers, parents and community leaders; (b) the problem is the selfish attitude of learners who did not cooperate with their friends; (c) the solution suggested were having patience and diligence.

Abstract

The purpose of this research was to describe the increase the ability of listening to fairy tales using hand puppets media in grade III State Elementary School 16 Sungai Ringin Sintang year 2016/2017. The approach of this study was a qualitative descriptive form of classroom action research. The result showed that (1) the puppets media enhanced students’ listening skills very well, seen from students’ active and enthusiastic participation; (2) the listening skill in the first cycle gained the average of 63.78 and reached 72.42 in cycle two. This showed an increase of learning outcome from the first to the second cycle of 8.64 points. The general completeness level in the first cycle was 60.71% with satisfactory categories and in the second cycle reached 85.71% in both categories; (3) The response of students to the application of a hand puppet media was very good. This shows that the use of hand puppets media while listening to fairy tales is a way that can attract students’ attention.

Abstract

This research was conducted to increase students’ participation and achievement in learning Social Studies of grade 4 by implementing inquiry method in SD Negeri Kenteng 1 Kecamatan Susukan Kabupaten Semarang semester II year 2016/2017. This research was based on Kemmis and Taggart classroom action research model. The subject of this study were 17 students. The indicator of success of this study was that 80% of the students achieve equal or more than the passing grade (70). It was shown that the implementation of inquiry method is able to increase students’ participation and achievement. The ratio of participation from phase 1 to phase 2 increased from 64.70% to 88.23%. On the other side, students’ achievement in phase 1 was that 70.50% of the students reached the minimum passing grade with the mean value of 88.90. On the second phase, 100% of the students were able to pass the minimum passing grade, and the mean value of the class increase to 93.80. From those result, it can be stated that inquiry method was able to increase students’ participation and achievement in learning Social Studies for grade 4 students of SD Negeri Kenteng 1 Kecamatan Susukan Kabupaten Semarang.

Abstract

This study aims to determine the direct influence of (1) participation in school quality, (2) the cost of education with school quality, (3) community participation with the costs of education. The method used is survey method with the correlational approach. In this study were used as a sample of 63 principals were selected based on random techniques (simple random sampling). Data were obtained by spreading questioner. This research was conducted in the district of Tangerang.Based on hypothesis testing that has been done, it can be described findings of the study as follows: (1) there is a direct positive effect between participation with school quality, (2) there is a positive direct influence between the cost of education with school quality, (3) there is a direct influence Among positive community participation with the costs of education.The implication of this research is the effort to improve school quality can be done through increased community participation and education expenses.

Abstract

The research purposes are to: (1) find out the application of Experiental Learning Model to improve the science understanding for Light and Its Properties subject material of fifth grade students in Temuguruh 1 Elementary School, and (2) increase the understanding of learning science through experiential learning model of fifth students I Temuguruh-Banyuwangi Elementary School. This study uses qualitative and quantitative research that applies classroom action. The research subjects are 19 fifth grade students which consists of 10 female and 9 male students. This research was conducted on March 13-25, 2017 in two cycles and each cycle contained two meetings. The data was collected by observation, interview, field notes, documentation, and test. The data analysis technique was done both in qualitative and quantitative analysis. The result of this research shows (1) the application of Experiential Learning Model in 4 phases, which are: the concrete experience, reflective observation, abstract conseptualisation, and active experimental that makes students to be more confident in delivering their opinion based on the observation that they have conducted; (2) science learning comprehension of student is improving through the application of Experiental Learning Model, it is proven by the increase average score in class from 72,2 became 73,4 in the first cycle and 79,6 in the second cycle. From 19 students in fifth grade, only 9 students passed the minimum standart of competency achievement of 47,4% (deficient). It changed from 11 students or 57,8% (satisfactory) in first cycle to 15 students or 78,9% (good) in second cycle.

Abstract

This research reports the assessment of academic self-concept of the first semester postgraduate students from education, language and literature study program of State University of Surabaya. This research used descriptive qualitative approach. Respondents involved were 20 students (M=25.2500, SD = 2.46822) in which the determination of the respondents were done by the use of the total sampling. The data were collected using the Academic Self-Concept Questionnaire (ASCQ) developed by Woon C. Liu and Chee K. J. Wang in 2005 by involving the two dimensions that is of academic-conviction and academic effort. The result of the analysis indicated that 13 students (65%) responded to the research questioners in the value of 80-100 and 7 students (35%) responded to the questionnaire in the value of 60-80 whereas in the value of 40-60, and of 0-20 was not responded by the students (0%) in the research questionnaire. Finally, it can be inferred that students’ academic self-concept are very good (65%).

Abstract

Character education in the realm of education in elementary school is crucial to be invested because basic education is the beginning of the moral application in human life. In school, children spend their time studying and interacting in their social life. There are several ways in teaching the values of character in school, one of which is to insert the values of characters in the mathematics learning. A real teacher simply directs and creates a learning plan that can accommodate the appearance of the character. One of the learning models that can stimulate the insertion of character values in students is the Project-based Learning model. Thus, the students will learn through the project and indirectly will also emerge the understanding of the character values that exist in the project activities.

Abstract

This study aims at generating possible thematic Subject Specific Pedagogy (SSP) based on local wisdom and examining the results teachers and students perception on the pedagogical approach developed in the preliminary field testing. Drawing upon the notion of research and development by Borg & Gall, this research was conducted through different stages involving information gathering, planning, developing preliminary product, preliminary field testing, and revising. The subjects were a small group of second grade students of SD Muhammadiyah Bodon and SD Muhammadiyah Sidoarum Yogyakarta. Each consists of 10 students. The data gathering instrument consists of product validation, character observation sheets, and teacher assessment sheets. The data gathering instrument consists of product validation tool, character observation sheets, and teachers’ assessment sheets. The SSP product generated in this study consists of lesson plans, teaching materials, worksheets, and expert perception. According to the experts of media, materials, and evaluation, the SSP product is in good categories. First grade teachers result a good score to the syllabus and lesson plans, while the worksheets and evaluation are in very good category. The results from the students responses to the textbooks is 78, which is in very good category, while the students worksheets score 71 which includes in excellent category. Therefore, the developed thematic SSP based on local wisdom can be declared appropriate for use in learning.

Abstract

One of the main problems of today's Mathematics Lesson is the lack of understanding and motivation of teachers in schools, so that children are less active in the learning process. This phenomenon occurs in SD N I Badran. Based on the results of formative tests of class VI semester 2 subjects mathematics of the material change the common fractions into decimal fractions and percent or otherwise low, this is validated by the analysis of the average grade 58, 33. Of the 30 students who achieve the value of learning mastery only 11 students, The rest is still far below KKM (≤70). Students do not yet understand in changing the usual fractions to decimal fractions and percent or vice versa. This type of research is Classroom Action Research. The subjects studied were the 6th graders of SD Negeri I Badran, Kranggan Sub-district, Temanggung Semester 2 of the 2015/2016 Lesson Study. This study was conducted in 2 cycles, each cycle consisting of 3 meetings, and each cycle consisted of planning, action, observation and reflection. From the result of research by using Drill method and group work, there is an increase of student learning result. In learning mathematics subject matter converts the usual fractions into decimal fractions and percent and vice versa. Prior to the improvement of the number of 30 students who thoroughly studied with KKM 70 only 11 students, with an average score of 58, 33 with mastery learning 36, 66. Improvement of learning Cycle 2 first meetings average grade 83.33 complete 25 percentage of mastery 83.33%. The researcher concludes that the result of the study of the sixth graders of SD Negeri 1 Badran of Kranggan Sub-district of Temanggung Regency on the subject changed the common denominations to decimal and percent and vice versa through Drill method and Group Discussion of learning result increased.

Abstract

Teaching grammar within the context of Second Language Acquisition (SLA) needs both product and process approaches. Microteaching is one of the techniques to prepare students teachers to improve their skills in this area. One of the microteaching lessons in English Language Education Department, Teachers College Universitas Pelita Harapan, is called Planning, Strategy, Assessment, and Learning (PSAL) Grammar. In this class, students are exposed with the nature, principles, and strategy of teaching and learning grammar. Students are planning lessons related to teaching grammar in various grades as well as developing teaching and learning material and instrument for language assessment. Students then put them into practice in the classroom individually. Discussion on the students ‘performances will be conducted after the microteaching session. This research aims to analyze students’ skills in teaching grammar in microteaching class as well as the discussing the strength and challenges arise. The type of the research is a qualitative case study research. The data collection techniques being used are observation, reflective journal, and Focus Group Discussion (FGD). Moreover, the technique of analyzing the data was Miles and Huberman concept of data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results of this research will be presented in a descriptive-narrative manner by describing and discussing students’ skills in teaching grammar.
