Abstract

Seaweed of Caulerpa racemosa  has bright prospects for cultivation. In North Maluku province in general, the cultivation of seaweed Caulerpa sp has never been developed, even though the waters of North Maluku have enormous potential, because this type of seaweed is scattered in various marine waters in North Maluku. One of the efforts that needs to be done is to carry out this type of seaweed cultivation in an optimal and sustainable manner. The seaweed Caulerpa racemosa cultivation unit used in this study was the off-bottom method measuring 5 m x 10 m. This size can contain 5 stretch ropes/risers with a length of 10 m and a distance of 1 m between the stretch ropes/risers. Each stretch / riser line contains about 45 seed clump points with a distance between clumps of 15 cm. The observation procedure for the growth of Caulerpa racemosa seaweed was carried out by weighing the seaweed seeds in each stretch/riser rope. The weight of seed that is weighed is the weight of seeds at the time of planting and the weight of seaweed at harvest. The results showed that the average growth rate of  seaweed Caulerpa racemosa was varied for each rope. In ris 1 rope, the average absolute weight growth reached 100.88 grams, ropes 113.33 grams, ris rope 3, 88.00 grams, rope ris 4, 116.00 grams, and rope ris 5, amounting to 113, 33 grams. In general, the highest growth in absolute weight was found in the fourth rope, which was 116.00 grams.

Abstract

The mangrove ecosystem is one of the main ecosystems in the coastal area which is very productive, but is very vulnerable to changes or external influences. As a vulnerable ecosystem, mangrove ecosystem management has to concern the integration of the community's ecological, economic and socio-cultural aspects so that optimal and sustainable management is achieved. The research objectives were to know the composition of mangrove species, to determine the structure of the mangrove forest community (species diversity, species dominance, uniformity, species density, species cover) and to determine the condition of mangrove forests on Tarnana Island, Jailolo Selatan District. This research was conducted on Tarnana Island, Jailolo Selatan District, and West Halmahera Regency in January - February 2021. The sampling method was carried out using the spot check method. Sampling was carried out at the lowest tide by using 5 line transects and each line transect placed 5 plots. Data analysis included species diversity, species dominance, uniformity, species density and species cover. The composition of mangrove species on Tarnana Island was obtained as many as 8 species, namely Rhizophora apiculata, R. stylosa, Bruguirea gymnorrhiza, Ceriops decandra, Ceriops tagal, Sonneratia alba, Xylocarpus granatum and Avicennia alba. The structure of the mangrove community has moderate species diversity, no dominant species and moderate uniformity. The condition of the mangrove forest on Tarnana Island is in the damaged category with rare density.

Abstract

The success of development the coastal fishing port in Tobelo of North Halmahera Regency cannot be separated from the existence of basic, functional and supporting facilities, therefore it is necessary to know the conditions and level of utilization of these facilities. The objectives of the research are; describe the existing condition of main and functional facilities and analyze the level of utilization of the main and functional facilities at the Tobelo coastal fishing port, North Halmahera Regency. The research was conducted at the Tobelo coastal fishing port, North Halmahera Regency, for one month, namely in November 2020. The research method used was a case study. The condition of the existence of basic facilities at PPP Tobelo, namely the length of the pier having a capacity of 80.00 m, an area of the port pool of 100 m2, the depth of the pier waters -5.00. The existing condition of functional facilities is an ice factory consisting of 2 units (each with a capacity of 5 tonnes a day), ABF consisting of 2 units (each with a capacity of 5 tonnes / 24 hours) and cold storage consisting of 2 units (each with a capacity of 50 tonnes). The utilization rate of the length of the pier and port pond exceeds the optimal limit of the installed capacity, then the utilization rate of the depth of the pier waters, ice factory, air blast freezer, and cold storage is not optimal.

Abstract

The waters of North Halmahera are a fishing area with abundant potential of small pelagic fish. Fishermen in Tobelo use a mini purse seine fishing gear which in local terms is called pajeko. The catch of pajeko fishermen is dominated by Mackarel tuna and Mackerel scad. The aim of this study was to determine the quality of fish caught by fishermen who are sold in one of the markets in Tobelo through organoleptic and pH analysis. Samples were taken randomly and analyzed descriptively so that the data were presented in the form of figures and tables. The results of the average pH analysis ranged from 6.00 - 6.50 and the results of the organoleptic analysis showed that the value was above 7 which indicated that the fish was still fresh.

Abstract

The author argues yhat management of fisheries and marine resources to day is more on ecological and economic goals than indirect use value, while direct use value is often used regardless of is sustainability. So far, direct benefits for improving the welfare of coastal communitiies have only been limited to a local scale with limited equipment. This condition is the responsibility of all parties, including policy makers, in increasing the economic value of fisheries and marine resources. This type of research is descriptive qualitative. Obervation data collection methods, indepth interviews, FGD and documentation studies. Data were collected from informants, government (Camat, Raja Nusaniwe), people who carry aut activities to maintain and preserve coastal and marine ecosystems that are in critical condition such as coral reefs,  seagrass beds, estuaries and mangrove forests. The economic value of fisheries and marine resources can be increased by managing them sustainably.  To increase the useful value of these resources, various efforts are made with the right methods, so that the management of fisheries and marine resources can be optimized for the welfare of coastal communities. The result of this study indicate that the result of fisheries and marine resourece management efforts are still felt by people who are far from coastal areas. Meaning that entrepreneurs and middlemen who have tasted the results of fishery and marine resources have been strived for by coastal communities. That efforts to improve the welfare of the peisir people also depend on the management of fisheries and marine resources, which means that if fisheries and marine resources are not conserved, there will be massive exploitation by foreign ships and fish companies that are only looking for profit.
