Abstract

The implementation of Islamic law in Aceh is included education by organizing Islamic curriculum in each level of education. How is the implementation of the curriculum in a multi-religious society like Banda Aceh? Banda Aceh has implemented a model of Islamic education through Diniyyah which has been implemented in all public schools in Banda Aceh since 2011, started with elementary, junior and senior high school. The results showed that the implementation of Islamic curriculum in Banda Aceh through diniyyah been operating effectively and do not make the non-Muslim communities disrupted. The implementation of Islamic education through Diniyyah did not clash with the main curriculum because it was implemented in the afternoon. So, this should be one of the models of Islamic curriculum implementation in Indonesia, particularly in areas which Muslim is majority without denying the existence of minorities.

Abstract

After May 1998, Indonesia began the transition from centralization to the era of autonomy. During 32 years, Soeharto’s New Order regime (1966-1998) demonstrated authoritarian regime in many sectors, like politics, economics, social, especially in education. The political freedom of the Reform era has opened up an opportunity for the revival of social movements in Indonesia. Reform has enabled more open political structure, including a friendlier political atmosphere for the teacher movement. The purpose of this research is to explain how teacher movement in Indonesia made transformation from authoritarian which close movement to liberal with open movement. In New Order regime with authoritarian performance, Persatuan Guru Republik Indonesia (Teacher Union in Indonesia) is as the single actor. The paper discussed three main aspects: (1) the explanation of the emerging of teacher movements in the process of democratic citizenship (2) the dynamics of teacher movement in developing teacher capacity in era of decentralization of Indonesia (3) the relations of teacher movement between the civil societies in era of decentralization. The teacher movement influences Indonesia’s democratization process. Teacher movement has contributed substantially in increasing participation and democracy in Indonesia, building the legal and institutional infrastructure for democracy, and providing voice and educational advocacy in supporting the reform.

Abstract

Based on empirical findings, this article concludes that the influx of Chinese migrant workers is a serious threat against Indonesian local and migrant workers in the overseas, amidst the high number of unemployment. The local and migrant workers have struggled to seek for a better job under uncertain situation in Indonesia. The Indonesian government attempts to create more job vacancies, yet the government has welcomed more migrant workers especially from China. Furthermore, Indonesian migrant workers are also recognized as the highest contributor for Indonesian remittance for many years. The influx of Chinese migrant workers blatantly hit both Indonesian local and migrant workers. In addition, this was a humiliation against Indonesian workers, which have struggled to migrate overseas through illegal and very risky ways. Conversely, a large number of Chinese migrant workers have been deployed in various projects, which basically can be handled by local workers. The arrival of Chinese migrant workers, of course, became a controversial issue especially among Indonesian local and migrant workers, who have faced difficult situation such as exploitation, humiliation, and contract abuses. This is a qualitative research enriched with semi-structured interviews with some key respondents specifically those who have experiences and expertise on migrant workers issues.

In the past years, the mining extraction increased steady and growth showed an increase of 8.3 percent in 2012 compared to the previous year, 19.4 percent in 2013 and 24.4 percent in 2014 respectively. In the current stage when the mining sector production plays a crucial role in the accumulation of the state budget, one of the key issues of improving the benefits of this sector is the impact of the labor force. By the labor market survey of 2013 out of 219013 job offers 14541 jobs or 6.6 percent were in the mining exploration sectors. Due to the mining sector booming, the job opportunities have increased and there is a need for the government policy and regulations for the education policies, curriculum modifications of the universities, colleges and vocation training as well as labor migration. According to the results of the study, the major challenge for the mining sector is lack of creative, enthusiastic and professional personnel. Therefore, identification of the accurate government policies that would ensure the balance between supply, the demand for the human resources in the mining sector and cohesion of the stakeholders are becoming essential.

Abstract

Education has over the years moved from one stage of development to the other with its peculiarities and challenges. There have also been series of innovations, strategies and policies based on the changes in the society. Some of these changes require technological approach which usually poses challenges because the country, like other developing countries, is ill-prepared and unable to immediately address each educational challenge as it appears. The paradigm shift, general acceptance of the new move or model in global technological education, government policies and massive enrollment for e-education and e-learning by the learners, the attitudes of all concerned in the design and full implementation of ICT and e-learning policies in education should be sustained. Some of the students and even the teachers or facilitators may still prefer the print materials which may limit their knowledge, effectiveness and resourcefulness with time. As a result, there is an increase in demand for a more flexible and cost effective means of education through e-education, e-learning or open and distance learning. This has brought a paradigm shift on how people generally view the significance of e-learning for higher education in Philippines.

The regression results of the fixed effect model revealed that the occurrence of absolute HDI convergence in districts/cities in Aceh. The estimation of conditional convergence indicated that population density played a significant and significant role in driving the convergence of HDI districts/city. Special autonomy funds had a positive influence but were not significant to encourage the HDI convergence process. It was also followed by the number of working people who did not significantly influence the HDI.  Therefore, policymakers in districts/cities in Aceh must continue to pay serious attention in an effort to accelerate human development, through human development priorities sourced from Aceh's special autonomy fund.
