Abstract

The study of difference in the color of the jigs was carried out considering that the squid (Loligo sp.) is one of the marine biological resources with important economic value. Catching squid carried out by fishermen so far is still traditional because the method of catching is done by using a petromax lamp and using spear fishing gear. Jigs are one type of modern fishing gear that has been modified as artificial bait in catching squid. The color of the jigs is also one of the success factors in getting the catch. The objectives of this research are; determine the color of the best jigs and determine the effective time in squid fishing operations. This research was conducted using an experimental method, namely the experimental design in the form of a randomized block design (RAK) with treatment (t) namely different colors of jigs, namely; Yellow, blue, green and red jigs were assembled randomly on 4 fishing rods with an operating time interval of 3 hours. The results showed that the catch of squid to the color jigs, namely the red jigs color obtained the most catches of 40 fish, the yellow color 21 fish, the green color 13 tails and the blue color 6 fish were the lowest catches while the fishing operation time with the most catches was at at 21.00-24.00 as many as 36 fish followed by time at 24.00-03.00 as many as 22 fish while the time at 18.00-21.00 and 03.00-06.00 were the smallest catches of 11 fish each. The results of this study are expected to provide benefits for squid fishing communities in the waters of the Rossenberg Strait to increase catches.

Abstract

Spirulina platensis is a highly nutritious cyanobacterial microalga. This microalga is rich in protein, vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. The use of media and cultivation methods that are not appropriate can affect the nutritional content of this microalgae. This study aims to evaluate the effect of urea on growth, biomass production, nutrient content and pigments of S. platensis on an outdoor scale. Technical media such as urea are used instead of nitrate in standard media (zarrouk). This study used four treatments with three replications. The treatments used were different doses of urea, namely 0.1 g/L, 0.4 g/L, 0.7 g/L, and 1 g/L. The results showed that the use of urea affected the growth and nutritional content of S. platensis. The use 0.4 g/L urea producued comparable results than that of nitrate as nitrogen source. However, phycocyanin content was still lower than nitrate-based media. Inconclusion that urea was potential alterative nitrogen source for spirulina cultivation.

Abstract

Indonesia has a tropical climate, where seasonal changes are relatively stable every year for surface temperatures and high salinity in the marine environment. The growth of tropical marine biofouling continues uninterrupted throughout the year. However, the metabolic activity of biofouling mostly has a detrimental effect on various submerged marine infrastructures where it damages the physical integrity of the structure, especially the corrosion effect and the tendency to waste marine fuel due to marine biota. In Indonesia, one way to reduce marine biofouling activity is to apply antifouling (AF) paint, which slowly releases antifouling active compounds in AF paint into seawater. Antifouling paint performance investigations have been carried out by the Corrosion Research Group, Metallurgical Research Center-The National Research and Innovation Agency for the last 5 years where the role of physical parameters of seawater and the biocidal active substance of antifouling paints plays a role in extending the service life of antifouling paints that are applied to installed structures in marine waters. The thickness of the antifouling paint and the type of antifouling paint also play a role in maintaining the service life. In Indonesia, antifouling paints still use inorganic heavy metal biocides based on copper oxide (Cu2O) as antifouling agents in marine waters, so further national-scale research is needed to replace copper heavy metals as the main biocide.

Abstract

Hand line is a type of fishing gear that is active and environmentally friendly and is often used by traditional fishermen to catch fish with high economic value. The right bait is one of the factors for maximizing catches. Fishermen around the village of Fiditan, Jellyfish Island, Kota Tual generally use various kinds of bait, such as Momar fish (Decapterus sp), Sikuda fish (Letrinus lenca) and Nipah worms (Namalycastis). This research was held in November – December 2022. The objectives are: to know the composition of hand line catches with different baits and to determine the type of bait that gives the most catches. This research is expected to provide information and knowledge to fishermen about hand line fishing gear units using different baits. Data analysis used a randomized block design, with baits used were Momar fish, Sikuda fish and Nipah worms. During the study, a total of 346 fish were caught consisting of Sikuda fish (Letrinus lenca) with a total of 294 fish (85.5%), followed by Gora fish (Lutjanus carponotatus) 25 individuals (7.33%), Sand-sand fish ( Taeniura ymma) 20 individuals (1.16%) and the smallest catch was Gace fish (Lutjanus malabericus) with a total of 1 fish (0.29%). The results of the analysis of variance showed that the Fcount for the treatment (8.66) was greater than the Ftable (0.05); 14:2) (88.5) so statistically H0. This means that the difference in the use of bait has a very significant effect at the level of ά = 0.05 on the catch. The BNT test results also showed differences in the value of each bait so that it was concluded that the three baits used by fishermen had a significant difference in the catch obtained with Sikuda bait with the highest yield, followed by Nipah worm and Momar fish bait.

Abstract

Belawan Harbor of North Sumatra is the third-busiest seaport in Indonesia and a gateway to the economic activity in the respective area. This study aimed to analyze the harbor water quality status and its sources of pollution. The data used for this study was the secondary data from the book of harbor environmental management and observations in 2015-2018 and the governmental regulation number 22 of 2021 on the harbor water quality standards. The observation was conducted in 14 different stations.  The data obtained was then analyzed using STORET and pollution index to determine the quality status then using Pearson correlation to correlate the data. The results showed that according to the pollution index method, the water in Belawan Harbor is categorized as in good condition (comply with the water standard). However, according to the STORET method, the harbor water quality status is in mild pollution categories. The ocean fishing harbor of Belawan (station 7) and Deli estuary (station 8) have the highest number of pollutants. Overall, the water status in the harbor of Belawan is within the threshold of the designated water standard. The polluted conditions generated from anthropogenic activity such as industrial, fishing and agriculture activity and also affected by the geographical location of the habor which located in the estuary area. In addition, the temperature, turbidity, and salinity are the main factors affecting the water ecosystem in Belawan Harbor.

Abstract

Blackskin catfish (Clarias meladerma Bleeker, 1846) is one of the endemic freshwater fish that has economic value but this fish has not been cultivated, besides that the problem is that this fish still has slow growth and low survival in the larval stage. One approach that can be taken to increase growth and survival is by administering vitamin C through natural feed enrichment in the form of Daphnia sp., so the aim of this study was to evaluate the impact of giving Daphnia sp. enriched with vitamin C on the growth and survival of blackskin catfish larvae. The research method used was a Completely Randomized Design (CRD) with 4 treatments to wit Daphnia sp. enrichment. with a dose of vitamin C each of 0 mg/L, 150 mg/L, 200 mg/L and 250 mg/L and each treatment was repeated 3 times, for the enrichment process by immersing Daphnia sp. with vitamin C carried out for 3 hours. Rearing of the larvae was carried out in an aquarium with a volume of 10 L of water and a stocking rate of 2 fishes/L with an initial size of larvae 0.70 ± 0,00 cm. During rearing the larvae were fed 4 times a day. The results showed that the administration of Daphnia sp. enriched with vitamin C gave the best growth in the P3 treatment (250 mg/L), specifically the absolute length growth was 0.81 cm better than the control treatment, the absolute weight growth was 0.43 g better than the control treatment, the specific growth rate was 0.54% better than the control treatment and survival 18.4% better than the control treatment. (P<0.05). So based on this study, it was concluded that the enrichment of Daphnia sp. with vitamin C has a positive impact on the growth and survival of blackskin catfish larvae (Clarias meladerma Bleeker, 1846).
