Abstract

Seagrass beds play an ecological role in the shallow marine environment, such as a habitat for biota, primary producers, and sediment traps. They also act as nutrient recyclers. Since they have such an important role, this natural resource needs to be preserved. Therefore, continuous monitoring and mapping of seagrass beds, especially by remote sensing methods, is paramount. The current rapid development of satellite sensor technology, especially its spatial and spectral resolutions, has improved the quality of the seagrass distribution map. The use of proper classification methods and schemes in the classification of seagrass distribution based on satellite imagery can affect the accuracy of the map, which is why various alternative algorithm studies are required. In this study, the Support Vector Machine and Fuzzy Logic algorithms were used to classify the WorldView-2 and Sentinel-2 satellite imageries on Kodingareng Lompo Island with four classes of seagrass cover, sparse (0–25%), moderate (26–50%), dense (51–75%), and very dense (76–100%). The result showed that the Fuzzy Logic algorithm applied to WorldView-2 imagery has the best overall accuracy of 78.60% seagrass cover classification.

Abstract

Antibiotics cause resistance to pathogenic bacteria, and the emergence of resistance and bacterial pathogenic infections makes scientists try to find new drugs. One of the efforts is to use marine organisms as a natural antibacterial agent, one of them is Sargassum sp. Sargassum sp contains alginate and iodine which are used in the food, pharmaceutical, cosmetic and textile industries. Apart from that, Sargassum sp. contains active compounds of steroids, alkaloids, phenols and triterpenoids which function as antibacterials, can be used to inhibit the growth of Vibrio sp bacteria which is the cause of firefly disease which is most dangerous for tiger prawns. The purpose of this study was to determine the ability of the extract Sargassum sp. In inhibiting the growth of Vibrio parahaemolyticus bacteria with different levels of solvent start with methanol, ethyl asetat, and n-hexane. The rejuvenation of Vibrio parahaemolyticus and Vibrio harveyimelalai bacteria is carried out in two stages, the first is planting on Triptyc Soy Broth (TSB) medium and the second stage is planting on Triptyc Soy Agar (TSA) medium.  Antibacterial sensitivity test using disc diffusion method. The results of the test showed that 1). sargassum sp which is extracted by metanol solvent inhibits the growth of Vibrio parahemolyticus bacteria. 2). sargassum sp which extract by etil sestat and n - heksan solvent can't inhibit the Vibrio parahemolyticus bacteria.

Abstract

IQ stands for Intelligence Quotient. It is a numerical score obtained from various psychometric tests designed to measure a person's general intelligence or cognitive ability. IQ is often used as an indicator of academic potential, success in the workplace, and adaptability to new environments. However, it is important to remember that IQ is only one aspect of human intelligence. IQ assessments are widely used in fields as diverse as education, psychology, and employment. Manually administered IQ tests are often time-consuming, require human intervention, and are prone to error. On the other hand, the development of data-driven technology allows for faster and more accurate information processing. Machine learning is a system that can learn to make its own decisions without being reprogrammed by humans, allowing computers to become smarter and learn from their experience with data. That's why the author conducted research to develop an IQ prediction model using machine learning algorithms.

Abstract

Rewataya Village is situated on Tanakeke Island, within the Takalar Regency. Despite its significance, previous studies have not addressed the mapping of changes in mangrove land area within this locale. The present research aimed to fill this gap by assessing alterations in mangrove land area from 2013 to 2023, alongside examining density and canopy cover conditions. The method employed for mapping changes in land area entailed utilizing the unsupervised method with maximum likelihood classification. Additionally, the assessment of mangrove conditions involved employing plot line transects to determine species density and hemispherical photography methods to evaluate canopy cover. Notably, two types of mangroves, namely Rhizophora mucronata and Rhizophora apiculata, are prevalent in this village. The mangrove species density in Rewataya Village, Tanakeke Island, is categorized as good. In addition, the canopy cover in Rewataya Village falls within the classification of very dense according to mangrove damage criteria. However, there has been a notable reduction in the mangrove ecosystem area between 2013 and 2023, with a decrease of 42.28 hectares (from 367.13 hectares to 324.84 hectares). Keywords: MangroveLandsat 8Rewataya villageUnsupervised

Abstract

Mangrove ecosystems provide vital ecological and social functions but are increasingly threatened by land conversion and coastal abrasion. This community service aimed to rehabilitate a degraded coastal area in Pattiro Sompe Village, Sibulue Subdistrict, Bone Regency, South Sulawesi. A participatory approach was implemented, involving local communities, academics, and local authorities. A total of 1,500 seedlings of Rhizophora sp. were planted in abandoned and unproductive shrimp ponds. The planting was conducted during low tide to ensure proper rooting in muddy substrates. The results indicated positive ecological and social outcomes. The mangrove planting helped reduce coastal erosion and initiated the restoration of the degraded shoreline. Socially, the activity raised community awareness about mangrove conservation and led to the formation of a local environmental awareness group. This program demonstrated that cross-sector collaboration can strengthen local capacity and produce sustainable impacts. Long-term monitoring and maintenance systems are necessary to ensure the continuity of rehabilitation outcomes.
