Abstract

Skipjack tuna (Katsuwonus pelamis) has high economic value and opportunities for local and export market demand. The present study aims to investigate growth and exploitation status of the resource. Data collection was carried out in April-August 2021 by collecting catch data from fishermen at four fish landing sites in Manokwari. Skipjack tuna caught from the fishermen were caught in the waters around Manokwari. The size of skipjack tuna measured ranged between 260 mm and 760 mm, with an average monthly size ranging between 540 mm and 595 mm. The relationship between total length and body weight of skipjack tuna followed the equation W = 0.00006L2.7702, where the b value of 2.7702 indicates that the growth pattern of skipjack tuna (K. pelamis) is negative allometric. The growth model using the von Bertalanffy model, found asymptote length (L∞) of 792.75 mm, growth rate (K) of 0.75 year-1 and theoretical age (t0) of -0.0254 years. The total mortality (Z) was 1.32 yr-1. Natural mortality (M) was 0.61 yr-1. The mortality due to capture (F) was 0.71 yr-1. The exploitation rate of 0.54 indicated that the exploitation rate of skipjack tuna in the waters around Manokwari has slightly exceeded the optimum utilization rate. The spawning potential ratio (SPR) value was 16%, which was less than the lower reference point (20%).

Abstract

Kissing gourami culture has begun to be developed to reduce the dependence on natural catches. Many factors that are influence fish culture. One of those is the availability of sufficient quantity and quality feed. Protein is an important nutrient that supports fish growth and affects feed prices. The protein requirement for each fish needs to be known as a basis for formulating feed. This research aims to determine the optimum feed protein level for kissing gourami. This study used a completely randomized design with five treatments and three replications. The treatment given is different levels of feed protein, consisting of 25% (P0), 30% (P1), 35% (P2), 40% (P3), and 45% (P4). The result showed that feed protein level 35% (P2) gave the best result for kissing gourami which resulted a absolute weight growth of 0.45 g, absolute length growth of 0.24 cm, protein efficiency ratio of 0.49, and feed efficiency of 17.11%.

Abstract

Tilapia cultivation in Tarakan City is one of the sources of community livelihood. However, environmental problems cause fish to be susceptible to diseases caused by bacteria in the waters. This study aims to increase the potential of chitosan with nanoparticle size, which is added to feed for the survival and growth of tilapia seed. Nanochitosan is an extract from crab or shrimp shell waste, which functions as an immunostimulant. By utilizing the active nature of the nanoparticle size, it can provide better growth and survival of tilapia seed. The research was conducted with an experimental method of two treatments and three replications. One treatment was without the addition of nanochitosan and the second treatment was with the addition of nanochitosan in the feed. The results of the synthesis of nanochitosan obtained size based on the amount with the highest intensity at 537.17 nm. Water quality were still optimal, namely the temperature was 27-29°C and the pH was between 7.3-7.8. The dissolved oxygen content (DO) obtained in the two treatments was 1.3-5.8 mg/L. The range of ammonia levels in the two treatments was 0.1-3.5 mg/L. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the treatment using chitosan nanoparticles in the feed was more effective than without using chitosan nanoparticles in the feed on the growth and survival of Tilapia Seeds. The results of the T test showed that the daily specific growth rate (SGR) in all treatments was not significantly different (P>0.05), but the survival rate (SR) of tilapia seed in all treatments was significantly different (P<0.05). These results can be concluded that the addition of nanochitosan in feed has a significant effect on increasing the survival of tilapia seed.
