Abstract

Gastric Ulcer is a common side effect of Non-Steroid Anti Inflammatory Drugs (NSAIDs) use such as Aspirin. Probiotic has many benefits especially for the alimentary system, but the effect on gastric ulcer have yet to be explored. In this research we aimed to find the probiotic effect on histological structure changes during aspirin induced gastric ulcer healing process in animal model. This was simple random sampling animal experimental laboratory, that divided Wistar Rats into two main groups. Both groups were induced with Aspirin (300mg/Kg BW) per oral, once daily for three consecutive days, and subsequently the test group were given probiotic suspension (cfu >108/gr) per oral, once daily, for 14 days. Each subgroups were sacrified serially at day 0, 3, 7, 14. The gaster were collected and processed for histology examination. Better histological structures were shown in the test group at day 14. MANOVA result showed probiotic's effect in enhancing histological structure changes during gastric ulcer healing process. Better histological structure changes were observed in mucus thickness; reepitelization, gastric glands formation, and angiogenesis process of the test group. As a conclusion, probiotic enhanced mucus thickness, reepitelization, glands remodelling, and angiogenesis in Aspirin induced gastric ulcer healing process in animal model. Key words: probiotic, gastric ulcer, histological structure, aspirin, healing process

Abstract

Nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) and acupuncture are treatments forinflammatory pain. The purpose of this study is to see the effectiveness of mefenamic acid, adrug from the class of NSAIDs compared with acupuncture therapy in 24 male Wistar rats thathave received intraplantar induced of carrageenan. The experimental animals are divided intosix groups: pain control group, mefenamic acid group, before-induction acupuncture group,after-induction acupuncture group, before-induction mefenamic acid-acupuncture combinationgroup, and after-induction mefenamic acid-acupuncture combination. Inflammation and painassessment with inflammation volume and pain threshold parameters tenderness is done every60 minutes during 6 hours after induction of carrageenan. The results of animal studies showthat the combination of mefenamic acid - acupuncture before induction (inflammation inhibitionvalue of 40.24%; pain inhibition value 8.95%) shows a significantly smaller value (p <0.05) inreducing inflammation and increasing the pain threshold compared to single mefenamic acidgroup (inflammation inhibition value 58.53%; the pain inhibition value 29.09%) and singleacupuncture therapy before induction (inflammation inhibition value 78.04%; the paininhibition value 23.07%). It happens because mefenamic acid inhibits the action of acupunctureas an analgesic. This study concludes that the administration of mefenamic acid degrades theeffectiveness of acupuncture therapy in addressing inflammatory pain. Keywords: acupuncture, mefenamic acid, carragenaan, analgesic, antiinflammation

Abstract

Liver cirrhosis is a condition in which the liver slowly deteriorates and is unable tofunction usually due to chronic, or long lasting, injury. Fibrotic tissue replaces healthy livertissue and partially blocks the flow of blood through the liver. Fibrosis increases liver stiffness.Liver palpation on the early physical examination has been used to assess liver stiffness.Though, palpation has some limitations, such as highly subjective, very operator dependent, and sometimes even impossible to perform. At present, liver biopsy remains the current goldstandard for assessing liver fibrosis, even though the diagnostic accuracy is limited by thespecimen size, invasive procedure, and long duration for getting the result. Elastography is analternative method to liver biopsy in patients with chronic liver disease. Keywords: chronic liver disease, elastography, liver cirrhosis

Abstract

Nasopharyngeal carcinoma (NPC) is an epithelial malignancy originating from the surface of the lateral and posterior wall of the nasopharynx. Bcl-2 is an oncoprotein that plays an important role in disrupting the process of apoptosis. Expression of Bcl-2 in biopsy samples of undifferentiated NPC also related to the nature of more aggressive tumor mass and unfavorable clinical radiotherapy response. The purpose of this study was to assess the relationship of Bcl-2 expression with radiotherapy response in undifferentiated NPC. The method of this study areusing 40 samples of paraffin blocks were diagnosed as undifferentiated NPC by histopathologic examination with H&E staining. The samples were divided into 2 groups who respond and do not respond to radiotherapy. All samples examined by Bcl-2 immunohistochemistry and the expression willanalyzed and assess therelationship to radiotherapy response. Of the 40 cases of undifferentiated NPC show imunoekspresi Bcl-2 positive in 39 cases (97.5%) and 1 case (2.5%) negative from response group. The results of statistical analysis of the Bcl-2 obtained significant results with p value <0.05 so we can conclude there is a relationship between Bcl-2 expression with radiotherapy response. Conclusion, Bcl-2 can be used as a predictor for the success of radiotherapy in undifferentiated NPC. Keywords: Bcl-2, undifferentiated NPC, radiotherapy response

Abstract

Dental extraction can cause anxiety in children, observed in vital signs changes. If occursexcessively, it can be regarded as an obstacle and may affect a child's behavior that can furtherdetermine the success of dental treatment. Anxiety that occurs in children can usually be influencedby various factors, including the level of parental education. This study aimed to observe maternaleducation level and anxiety in children receiving dental extraction treatments. This is a descriptivestudy, involving 60 subjects aged 7-12 that went for dental extraction at Rumah Sakit Gigi MulutPendidikan Universitas Jenderal Achmad Yani (RSGMP UNJANI) Cimahi Juli-Desember 2016. Theparameters examined for measuring anxiety are body temperature, respiration frequency, and pulsebefore and after the procedure. This study found that 63.3% of mother of the subject had high schooleducation, 16.7% of junior high school, 8.3% S1, 6.7% D1/D3, and 5% SD. Increased bodytemperature was obtained in 36 subjects, increased respiration frequency in 46 subjects, andincreased pulse in 34 subjects. We concluded that the majority of maternal education levels in thisstudy are high school graduates and the anxiety parameters in the majority of subjects increase whenreceiving dental extraction procedure. Keywords: child's anxiety, dental extraction, mother education level

Abstract

Wound examination is indispensable in forensic practice. The scientific field of wound age determination has advanced progressively during recent years. The purpose of this study was to determine the differences of fibronectin and TGF-β1 expression in both antemortem and postmortem wounds. This study was an experimental with completely randomized design.  The skin wounds (vital and postmortem) were taken from fourty Wistar rats and divided into 10 groups of rats. Immunohistochemical staining was performed to determine the differences between antemortem and postmortem wounds. The result showed that in 30 minutes after antemortem wound infliction, all of samples showed weak reactivity for fibronectin and TGF-β1 (100%).  In first hour after wound infliction, 3 samples (75%) showed weakly positive and 1 sample (25%) strongly positive for fibronectin and TGF-β1.  In 2 hour after wound infliction, 1 sample (25%) showed weakly positive and 3 sample (75%) strongly positive for fibronectin and TGF-β1.  In 3 and 4 hour after wound infliction, all of samples strongly positive for fibronectin and TGF-β1.  In postmortem wound, all of samples showed negativity for fibronectin and TGF-β1. In conclusion, fibronectin and TGF-β1 may be useful in the determination of wound vitality. Keywords: wound, fibronectin, TGF-β1, vitality

Abstract

Free radical plays role in wound healing. This study was conducted to determinedifferences in level of plasma malondialdehyde (MDA), and histopathological score of woundhealing by administering zinc in old and young mice. We used 24 old mice and 24 young miceincision wound model, randomized into two groups, with and without zinc administration. Wefound plasma MDA level was lower in old mice with zinc administration but not statisticallysignificant. The plasma MDA level was significantly higher by administering zinc in young mice(p=0.004). The plasma MDA level of young mice was higher than old mice in zincadministration group (p=0.010). Reepitelialization, inflammatory cells, fibroblasts andangiogenesis did not differ by administering zinc both in old mice and young mice.Reepitelialization, inflammatory cells and angiogenesis did not differ between old and youngmice in mice that were given zinc; while fibroblast of young mice is more than old mice(p=0.010). We concluded  plasma MDA level is higher in young mice with zincadministration. Plasma MDA level in young mice is higher than old mice with zincadministration. Young mice with zinc administration have higher fibroblast than oldmice. Keywords: aging, free radical, histopathologic score, malondialdehid, wound healing, zinc
