Abstract

Permainan Dart Board adalah permainan yang menggunakan alat bernama ‘anak panah.’ Anak panah itu akan diarahkan ke sasaran yang berupa papan sasaran. Kalau dalam permainan internasional, ada aturan khusus dan hitungan tertentu untuk menilai keberhasilan dari para pemain, namun kali ini permainan Dart Board ini ditujukan untuk melatih fokus seseorang. di mana pada permainan‘Dart Board’ ini, kita mencoba mengumpulkan fokus kita pada satu sasaran yang berupa papan bundar. Latihan fokus ini diperlukan di segala bidang, tapi kali ini penulis akan membahas latihan fokus berdasarkan bidang bahasa, khususnya pada kemampuan mendengarkan (Listening Comprehension Skill) pada waktu mengerjakan soal TOEP (Test of English Prociency).

Abstract

This research identified types and the dominant communication styles used by a teacher in EFL classroom interaction based on theory of Mikoluk (2013) and Lanz (2015). Descriptive qualitative research method was applied to find out the phenomena of communication styles used by the teacher in EFL classroom interaction. The subject of this research is single participant, a teacher of SMA Negeri 3 Palopo. The participant was chosen by using purposive sampling technique. The researcher observed and interviewed the teacher to reveal the phenomena under investigation. Observation was conducted in six meetings from different context such as different class, time and learning topic. The researcher conducted observation by using audio recorder and field notes. Audio recorder was used to record teacher’s utterance in the teaching and learning process. Meanwhile field notes used by the researcher to obtain more accurate data. Interview was used to know the teacher’s dominant communication styles. The result of this research showed that there were three types of communication styles that used by the teacher in EFL classroom interaction namely aggressive style, assertive style, and passive style and the dominant one was aggressive style.

Abstract

The research aims to find the classification types of code switching and code mixing in twivortiare 2 novel then describe the influencing using types of code switching and code mixing in the novel. Descriptive qualitative method are used as the methodology in this research which means classify types of code switching and code mixing every sentences clearly through the dialogue of the novel. The research focused on the types of code switching (inter-sentential, intra-sentential, and tag-switching) and types of code mixing (insertion, alternation, and Congruent Lexicalization) while combine with influencing of used it. The results of the research many utterance are most of utterance using code mixing – insertation and code switching – intra-setential.

Abstract

Abstract - Banking terminology is specialized language which is quite distinct from the translation of general texts. Specialized translation is meant to improve the communication among experts of a domain and to contribute to the distribution of knowledge across language boundaries. In this research the writer tried to use banking document as the corpus in finding banking terminology. The main focus was the translation of banking terminology in Financial Review of Bank Central Asia into Indonesian, translated by Anang Fachruddin, a sworn translator having its official address in Kalibata. This document is selected to be the subject of this thesis corpus, since there is a number of banking terminology found there. Conducted as a descriptive analytical study, this research was aimed at (1) Identifying the procedures applied in translating banking terminology in legal documents, and (2) to find out to what extent that the use of procedure effect the meaning. The writer chooses Peter Newmark theory of translation procedure since it contains more detail information and explanation. From the total number of 98 terminologies occurred in Financial Review of Bank Central Asia, the writer only found ten out of eighteen procedures of Peter Newmark applied in translating banking terminology in legal document. The procedures are; (1) Literal Translation (34.02%), (2) Transference (26.5%), (3) Naturalization (8.1%), (4) Functional Equivalent (3.0%), (5) Descriptive Equivalent (10.2%), (6) Synonym (3.0%), (7) Shift or Transposition (4.0%), (8) Reduction and Expansion (5.1%), (9) Equivalence and Adaptation (1.0%), (10) Couplets (2.0%). Overall, the Indonesian translated version of banking terminologies did not changed the meaning of the source text which is English version. Keywords: Translation, Sworn Translation, Banking, Legal Document. Abstrak: Istilah perbankan merupakan bagian dari bahasa khusus yang bentuknya berbeda dengan nas umum. Penerjemahan khusus bertujuan untuk meningkatkan komunikasi diantara ahli dan berperan serta dalam memberikan pengetahuan melewati batasan bahasa. Dalam penelitian ini penulis berusaha menggunakan dokumen perbankan sebagai korpus penulisan dalam menemukan istilah perbankan. Fokus utamanya adalah penerjemahan istilah perbankan dalam Tinjauan Keuangan Bank Central Asia ke dalam bahasa Indonesia, diterjemahkan oleh Anang Fachruddin, seorang penerjemah tersumpah berkantor di daerah Kalibata. Dokumen ini dipilih menjadi korpus penulisan karena ada banyak istilah perbankan yang ditemukan disana. Dilaksanakan sebagai penelitian Deskriptif Analisis, penelitian ini bertujuan untuk: (1) mengenali prosedur yang dipakai dalam menerjemahkan istilah perbankan dalam dokumen legal dan (2) mencari tahu sampai sejauh mana penggunaan prosedur diatas mempengaruhi makna. Penulis menggunakan teori Peter Newmark mengenai prosedur penerjemahan karena teori tersebut berisikan lebih bnyak informasi dan penjelasan. Dari 98 istilah yang ditemukan dalam Tinjauan Keuangan Bank Central Asia, penulis hanya menemukan sepuluh dari delapan belas prosedur Peter Newmark yang diterapkan dalam menerjemahkan istilah perbankan di dokumen legal. Prosedur tersebut adalah; (1) Literal Translation (34.02%), (2) Transference (26.5%), (3) Naturalization (8.1%), (4) Functional Equivalent (3.0%), (5) Descriptive Equivalent (10.2%), (6) Synonym (3.0%), (7) Shift atau Transposition (4.0%), (8) Reduction dan Expansion (5.1%), (9) Equivalence dan Adaptation (1.0%), (10) Couplets (2.0%). Abstract

This research is attempt to discovers the TU and VOS forms in Tae’ Bastem language and in English, TU and VOS  form was first discovered by Brown and Gilman in 1960. TU represents the pronoun that is used in informal/familiar situation and VOS is used in a formal/polite situation. However, the writer sees that TU and VOS is cultural and it will differ from culture to culture. The researcher found TU and VOS forms in Tae’ Bastem, in fact there are six second person pronoun found in Tae’ Bastem,pronoun pronoun “ki”, and “ta”,    pronoun “ki”, and “ta” are used in formal situation or in polite speech, and pronoun “ko” and “mu” are used in informal or impolite speech. Another finding that the writer found is in Tae’ Bastem, there are two pronoun which are used in both situation, whether in informal or formal, polite or impolite speech, which are the pronoun “mi” and “kun”, pronoun “mi” and “kun”  are used in polite or impolite speech. Otherwise, TU and VOS are not found in English, even in the southern English in America, the only second person pronoun which exist in English is “YOU” , and it is used both in formal/informal or polite/impolite situation. However English speaker, especially those who live in southern part of the United states of America, they have their own way in order to distinguish utterances in formal or informal, in formal situation or in polite speech which are; to say “please” when asking for something, to say “thank you” before or after, saying “yes ma’am” “no ma’am”, soft spoken, maintaining eye contact, and even always be aware of voice tone.Keywords: Brown and Gilman, TU and VOS forms, second person pronoun
