Abstract

Cerebral palsy is the condition marked by paralysis, weakness, inability coordinationor other deviation of motoric function, especially muscles. While mental retardation isdevelopment disturbance especially in functions and the intellectual capacity. Fromthe dentistry point of view, the paient had many disturbances because the decreasingof the capacity, include maintenance of the oral dental health. In fact, therequirements in oral and dental health care were not different from other patients, butthe implementation usually difficult. Dental care was influenced by several points, psychology, physical, and emotion. The aim of this case study is to reportconsiderations in caring inpatient, improving the chewing function and esthetics andincreased patient’s self confidence. This case represents a 17 years old man with thecerebral palsy and mild mental retardation, came to the Teeth and Mouth Clinic ofYPAC Jakarta to make denture. He complained his chewing abilitiy, and appearancebecause disturbanced and decreased his self-confidence. In this case, the patient wasmade frame denture to the teeth 41 to 45, because the ridge had been lost as a result oflosing teeth many years ago.after the therapy, it can be concluded that the difficulty inhandling the special need children patient could be overcome if the dentist studied thecharacteristics of the manifestation of his physical and psychological situation of thepublic well. Abstract

Objective:To perform surgical operation on necrotizing fasciitis due to odontegenic infection with sepsis. Methods: In this case an odontogenic infection was accompanied by a large open wound on the face and sepsis. Patient was hospitalized in the Dr.HasanSadikin General Hospital. Management of this patient in the emergency room were administration of appropriate broad-spectrum empiric antibiotic, incision and pus drainage, and extraction of the infected tooth, followed by fluid resuscitation with strict observation. Surgical debridement was then performed. Results:After being treated for 12 days the patient’s condition improved. We planned closure of defects of the facial area, but the patient refused. Conclusion: Necrotizing fasciitis is an uncommon but potentially lethal condition associated with high rates of morbidity and mortality. Early diagnosis coupled with emergent surgical debridement, appropriate broad-spectrum empiric antibiotic treatment, and a multidisciplinary team approach is essential for successful treatment.

Abstract

Imperfect young permanent teeth caused by caries or trauma could become necrotic before it’s growth anddevelopment completed, thus causes imperfect shape of the root canal and an opened apex. Difficulty in treatment ofroot canal caused by the absence of apical stop, that makes obturation cannot be accomplished because fillingmaterials will be pushed to periapex. The purpose of this case report was to report the treatment of anterior teethwhich diagnosed as necrotic with apexification. The material filling is calcium hydroxide with strong base natureand give antimicrobacterial effect and tissue liquefaction. The result of the treatment was closure of the apex, thetissue surrounding tooth is in normal range or that absence of radiolusency which is a sign of healing at theperiapical. The conclusion is young permanent tooth which experienced pulp necrotic can be treated withapexification treatment

Abstract

Objective: Color matching technique is one of the requirement in clinical dentistry. Using dental shade selection can help the dentist to determine the suitable color for the patients during fabrication of prosthesis. However the lack of dentists’ knowledge in color science due to many kinds of shade guide becomes a problem in the field of dentistry. So color matching technique by using digital images are feasible solution when suitable color features have been properly manipulated.Material and Methods: Separating the color features of digital images into RGB and HSV feature spaces are the first step of this system. Due to many features in this step, it requires some classifier algorithm according to the shade type of teeth. In this paper, we proposed color teeth classification for dental shade selection using DT, NN, and K-nearest neighbors algorithm based on color histogram feature spaces. Results: The result showed that on using the KNN algorithm it achieved 96.67% in learning process and 90% in testing process which had error level (0.183).Conclusion: It proves that our proposed system have high similarity in color matching according to the learning and testing process.

Abstract

Structure of the anterior teeth after endodontic treatment usually become weak because of the extensive loss of toothstructure. It causes a big problem to an endodontically treatment tooth when considering its restoration, examplereduced strength of the remaining tooth structure. Restoration that covers the tooth crown can be used if aesthetic andfunctional problems factors have been considered. However, composite resins are also often the treatment of choice forthe restoration of endodontically treated tooth. In this literature review, it will be discussed the selection of the properrestoration of the anterior teeth that have been endodontically treated.

Abstract

Congenital heart defect is a form of cardiovascular disease present since birth andoccurs due to development disorder. A type of congenital heart defect is ventricularseptal defect. Oral sedation has been used in dentistry, especially on child patients toovercome the anxiety of dental care. Chloral hydrate is a monohydrate derivate fromchloral (trichloroacetaldehyde)which is hypnotic sedative medication and which isused for oral sedation. Chloral hydrate is used to mitigate anxiety before operation, usually after operation to overcome pain. Management of cardiovascular childpatients in dentistry requires complete handling, in efforts to prevent the occurrenceof bacterialis endocarditis. This paper discusses oral and dental condition and theirmanagement in cases of children with ventricular septal defect heart disorder. A sixyearold boy was reported with ventricular septal defect going to undergo a heartoperation. The patient was very non-cooperative in getting dental treatment. Oralsedation with chloral hydrate was performed for patient during dental patching andextracting. Mouth preparation was completed in two visits.

Abstract

People’s health mainly depends on the intake of nutrients intake. It is well known that tooth loss affects health, although it could be restored by prosthodontic treatment. Denture wearer’s diet usually consists of soft foods. This kindof diet will limit the variety of foods consumed by the elderly, and increasing the risk of nutrition deficiencies.Inadequate nutrition for a long time could lead to various kinds of diseases, even the systemic, which primarily occursin the mouth because of clinical symptoms of early malnutrition firstly found in the mouth. The risk of nutritionalemergencies could increase along with the aging. The understanding of nutritional supply, consumption problem ofelderly, and symptoms of nutrition disorder could help dentists identifying denture patiens with nutrition disorder riskand could give solutions for them.

Abstract

Hemangioma is a vascular benign tumor frequently found in childhood and about30% manifests itself in head and neck areas. This lesion is frequently found in lip, tongue and buccal mucosal areas. Its etiology is conjectured to be related to theproliferation of abnormalities of endothelium cells. According to its type, hemangiomais divided into capillary, cavernous, and mixed hemangioma. Surgery is indicated incases that cause complications. A case of hemangioma was reported in the lower lipof an eight-year-old girl. The patient accompanied by her parents visited the SpecialDental Care Clinic, Department of Oral Surgery, Hasan Sadikin Hospital, Bandung, with the complaint of having reddish bruises on the lower lip, which impeded thespeaking and masticating function. Before radiotherapy was performed at theRadiology Polyclinic, mouth preparation was provided for all his teeth first, for thepurpose of improving oral hygiene and preventing focal infection present in theintraoral condition.

Abstract

An alternative treatment for extensive dental caries is using jacket crown. But this restoration could accumulate dentalplaque and can lead to gingivitis. Mouthwash is believed could reduce plaque. Nowadays, most of mouthwash inmarket contains alcohol so that not all individuals can use it. For that reason, we need a free of alcohol mouthwash. The use of medicinal plants from natural materials is increasingly widespread and will be a part of life. One type oftraditional medicinal plants are now widely consumed across the world is roselle flower (Hibiscus sabdariffa L.)because it cointains flavonoid that are fungistatic, fungicid, and bacteriostatic. This studywas aimed to determine theeffective concentration of roselle infusion ingredients to reduce the amount of plaque in acrylic crown. Five peopleusing acrylic crown were asked to rinse using 4 concentration of roselle infusion and distilled water as control for 30seconds, with time interval 1 week for each concentration. Examination of the amount of plaque was performed beforeand after rinsing. The results showed that mouthwash made from roselle infusion is able to reduce the amount ofplaque in acrylic crowns (P<0.05). It was concluded that concentration of 20% roselle mouthwash effectively reducingthe number of plaques at acrylic crown.
