Abstract

This restrospective research studied the strategies employed by Indonesian students in identifiying the meaning of Arabic words in context. This study found: first, the students identified the word meaning using the following strategies: (a) using a billingual dictionaries (digital dictionary, printed dictionary, online dictionary), (b) asking friends, and (c) utilizing context. Second, students were able to identify the full context and identify the meaning of difficult words accurately. Third, relating meaningful context and accurate meaning which found four patterns of integrating context and accuracy of meaning, namely (a) full context and accurate meaning (F-A), (b) full context but innacurate meaning (F-NA), (c) incomplete context but accurate meaning ( NF-A), and (d) incomplete context and inacurate meaning  (NF-NA). The ability to identify full context tends to help students to identify the meaning of words accurately.DOI: 10.24865/ajas.v1i2.4

Abstract

In some cases learning Nahwu was only stopped at the level of theory, yet its practice is still neglected. So many of the students mastered many nahwu theories but did not balance with the competence in listening, speaking, reading and writing in Arabic. It is true that learning Arabic is encouraged by nahwu, but the extent to which the model of Nahwu supports the language acquisition is questionable. Descriptive qualitative method was applied to deal with this research. The result showed that to master Arabic language through learning Nahwu, teachers should use al-Nahwu al-Wazhifi. Beside, they also can use this type of al-Nahwu al-'Ilmiy, giving examples of applicative and functional to complement existing examples in the book of al-Nahwu al-'Ilmi. In addition, because the books "al-Nahwu al-'Ilmy” had not been evaluated, teachers should develop aspects of evaluation by extending the exercise to hear, speak, read and write Arabic.DOI: 10.24865/ajas.v1i2.5

Abstract

The factor of failure in Arabic language learning in Indonesia is the lack of activities in language learning. One of language learning activities is identifying meaning or word meaning and phrase in dictionary. However, word and phrase index developed based on teaching materials at madrasah non-pesantren was not developed yet. Therefore, Research and Development is needed to apply. After having collected the word and phrase index that were collected from teaching materials of Arabic language at MI non-pesantren in Indonesia, then it was tested at MIN Malang. The result showed that: there was a development in Arabic language learning through word and phrase index; that was students' competence to identify meaning and collaboration in understanding text and context in a sentence. After having applied the experiment, students' average score increased from 52 with 19 failed students to 81,26 with 5 failed students.DOI: 10.24865/ajas.v1i2.6

Abstract

Contrastive analysis is aimed to identify aspects of the differences or dissimilarities between two or more languages being contrasted. There are two kinds of approach in contrastive analysis, applied contrastive analysis and pure contrastive analysis. Both approaches contrast the first and second language, but different in the objective. Applied contrastive analysis is aimed to solve pedagogical problems, while the pure one is aimed to study language typology. Through contrastive approach there will be characteristic of every language and it is known that cultural diversity (the culture between first and second language) implicates on language forms. There are four steps to get through to contrast the components of the two languages being compared, namely (1) collecting the desired data (2) displaying a comparison in the same units of language through  language transfer, (3) identifying the different elements that exist in the language, and (4) formulating the contrasts in the rule.DOI: 10.24865/ajas.v1i2.11

Abstract

The emergence of psycho-literature study is in line with the relation between psychology and literature. Psychoanalysis theory used in this study was the theory of Sigmund Freud to examine the character of Yusuf. This theory distinguished three kinds of personality; they are id, ego, and superego. This research investigated Yusuf's behavior in the context of citizenship. The story of Yusuf is determined as the best story from the aspect of its styles, contents, and objectives. This story was begun with the dream of Yusuf, sunk into the well, sold to Egyptian merchant, flirted by the wife of his merchant, found by his family, and the lessons of his story. In its relation to Islam, superego in the theory of Freud should be aimed to Islamic values. The principle of tauhid should always be in mind, so when bed desire comes to a moslem, then that principle will be the savior. Psycho-literature interdisciplinary study uncovers psychological aspects of Yusuf to take the lessons for the society.DOI: 10.24865/ajas.v1i2.13

Abstract

This research was aimed to identify the relation between classroom classification based on the cognitive level and students' achievement in learning Arabic language. The method used in this research was quantitative using the samples all the 8th grade of MTsN 2 Jagakarsa, 50 students academic year 2012/2013. The research found that there was no relationship between classifying students based on their cognitive level and their achievement in Arabic language with the value (-0,130). This value is between (0,00 – 0,20) meaning that there is no correlation between those two variables. It means that the alternative hypothesis (Ha) was rejected and the null hypothesis (Ho) was accepted or there was no relationship between the variables.DOI: 10.24865/ajas.v1i2.14
