Abstract

Abstract

Abstract- Museum as an architectural object with its function as an educational and recreational facility is open to public and must be able to be used by all people. Therefore, the design of museums must be accessible for all people, including those with special needs. One of the museums in Indonesia which is considered to be a good work of architecture is the Museum of Bank Indonesia. It receives many visitors from various circles, including people with visual impairments. To accommodate visitors with visual impairments, the Museum of Bank Indonesia must have design features that help them to do activities, despite their limited sense of sight. Through this study, the research aims to find out how physical elements in the Museum of Bank Indonesia accommodates the orientation and mobility of visitors with visual impairments. This is a qualitative research, with a descriptive discussion. The collected data are the data on physical elements in the Museum of Bank Indonesia and the data on the behavior of visually impaired visitors while doing orientation and mobility in the Museum of Bank Indonesia exhibition area. The data are collected through observation and interview, then analyzed by using a table which elaborates physical elements from technical requirements aspect and sensory design aspect, and how they accommodate visually impaired visitors. Research shows that some physical elements in the Museum of Bank Indonesia are already adequate in accommodating visually impaired visitors. They able to provide assistance for visually impaired visitors while doing orientation and mobility, as well as gathering information on the museum objects. On the other hand, there are also some physical elements that hinder visually impaired visitors because they don’t technically meet the user’s needs. Therefore, improvement in the physical elements design is needed, so it can accommodate visitors with visual impairments better. Abstract

Abstract- Hinduism is a religion that was born in India and has developed rapidly into the archipelago with evidence of Sanskrit inscriptions and Pallava. The religion had a significant influence on Java which changed the political, economic, social and cultural life which at that time was still a kingdom. The arrival of Indians to Indonesia affected by the reverse flow between Indonesia and India and India and Indonesia. This can be seen by the presence of Indonesian dormitories in Nalanda (North India) and Nagapattinam (South India). The influence of North and South India can be seen from the existence of Hindu-Buddhist temples in the Archipelago which was built in one of the Hindu kingdoms, namely the Kingdom of Ancient Mataram which had areas of authority from Central Java to East Java. The temples that were built are thought to have an identity with temples in North and South India in terms of figure, inner space tectonics, mass layout, spatial planning, and ornamentation. This identity is thought to be a close relationship between North India and South India with Indonesia, especially in the era of Ancient Mataram. The purpose of this study is to find out the relationship or relationship of Ancient Mataram era temple architecture to North and South Indian temple architecture. The analysis method used is the comparative – qualitative method. Work plans, plans, pieces, site plans, and block plans of 28 Hindu-Buddha tower types in Central Java will be compared in terms of similarities and differences and then analyzed regarding the position of the laying, and elements of the temple so that the relationship between the two countries is found. Data obtained from literature studies and field surveys. The conclusion drawn from this study is that there is a closer relationship with South India than North India. The influence of North India and South India is only limited to the external appearance in the study of figure and ornamentation, while in the study of mass and spatial planning and inner space tectonics is more developed by the people of Ancient Mataram which is adjusted to traditional values and natural influences. Key Words: figure, tectonics, mass layout, spatial planning, ornamentation, North and South India, Ancient Mataram

Abstract

Abstract- The times have created an identity crisis that has led to the fading of cultural diversity. This has caused many buildings in Indonesia today that have acted on behalf of or made the building have a local identity to reflect culture. The local identity used should not only be in the physical part of the building, but also have concepts and meanings applied. One of the local identity can be reflected through the expression of the building. A good building expression is a building that can pay attention to the local identity of the local culture in the building. This study aims to determine the local identity contained in the object of study, related to the expressions observed by observers. The object of study needs to be examined and studied further about the concept of Tri Angga used, and the representation of Bali that is reflected through the building, so that it can be known whether the object of study displays local Balinese identity or not. This evaluation discusses the conclusions of local identity in the case study building expressions and what should be done so that the local identity of Bali is more felt in the object of research. The theory used to support this research is the evaluation of architecture, local identity, architectural expression, identity and expression of Balinese architecture. The expression theory uses the Building Quality Theory by Kevin Lynch in 1960. The aspects of expression theory are chosen according to the explanations relevant to the object of study, form simplicity, visual scope, directional differentiation, and dominance. The method used in this study uses qualitative methods with descriptive, analytic, and interpretative approaches. The results of the study were to evaluate the local identity contained in the Katamama Hotel building expressions, which were assessed based on the theory of building quality. Local identity in the research object is in the aspect of dominance / dominance. The identity used is only found in the Bali brick material used in the scope of the building. Katamama Hotel does not use Balinese concepts, which rights are a characteristic or identity of Balinese architecture. The quality of buildings such as visual scope in the shape of the building is the main expression to be displayed. The brick material with gaps obtained from the brick structure makes a visual impression that can be felt by visitors, and is in accordance with the concept designed by the architect of the building by paying attention to lighting and shadows. While the quality of directional differentiation and form simplicity in buildings, both the shape of the building and the arrangement of the space become an aspect that is less attention to the Katamama Hotel. The benefit of this research is to provide an in-depth understanding of local identity and the importance of maintaining local wisdom, educating the public about the expression and its relation to local architectural identity with examples of real objects, so that physical and non-physical elements can be seen, enriching knowledge, especially culture local archipelago, as well as adding theoretical study studies on local expression and identity, as well as their relation to national identity. Abstract

Abstract- Dian Cinema is an entertainment building in the form of a cinema that was built in 1930 under the name Radio City at that time. Located on Jalan Dalem Kaum no. 58, Bandung, Dian Cinema is the only cinema building left in the Alun - alun area and it is categorized as Group A Cultural Heritage Building in Bandung. In the beginning, Dian Cinema had experienced its heyday by showing a variety of foreign and local films, until it was eventually replaced with a new, more modern cinema concept that made Dian Cinema visitors diminished and eventually closed. The transition of functions in this building continues as a billiard sports venue, a place to sell clothes, rental offices, football sports venues, until now, Dian cinema is run into a vacuum of function. This makes the condition of the building become untreated and unmaintained well. In fact, the use of buildings in the right way can save these buildings and have a positive impact on the surrounding environment. Therefore, the proposed of a new function commonly referred to as adaptive reuse is carried out as one of the conservation act of cultural heritage buildings to maintain its history and existence. The study uses descriptive methods with qualitative analysis and evaluation, by describing the existing condition of the building. After that, it was conducted on the needs of the area in accordance with Bandung City regulations, conservation theory, analysis of the area and buildings, as well as examples of the successful application of adaptive reuse in Indonesia. The results of this study resulted in a new function, the Art Studio and the Performing Gallery which was considered applicable to the Dian Cinema building. The function is chosen based on a series of analysis results such as location, historical value, building characteristics, spatial requirements, to the potential and constraints of the building and area. The existence of new functions in the building is expected to be able to evoke social activities and old historical memories that are starting to fade, increase public knowledge, become an entertainment building and educational tourist destinations, and can participate in maintaining, protecting, and utilizing the existence of Group A Cultural Heritage Buildings in Bandung. Abstract

Abstract- Vastusastra is a text which discusses Indian architecture which is published in several books, included Manasara. Vastusastra contains guidline for building Indian construction, including religious building such as temples. Although the narrative was made for the construction of temples in India, it turns out that there are some elements in vastu that also found in Mataram Kuno temples. This raises questions about the relationship of Indian architecture with Majapahit, which was the era after Ancient Mataram, given the Hindu-Buddhist influence still existed in the Majapahit era. To find out this, vastusastra-Manasara was used as a benchmark to find out the elements of the Majapahit temple which was influenced by India, especially South India which was thought to have a more dominant influence than North India on temple architecture in Indonesia. This study uses a descriptive method with a qualitative approach by describing the figure and mass-space layout of Majapahit temples that have been selected as the object of research and compared with vastusastra-Manasara's narrative using reference objects to facilitate analysis in order to find out the relations of the Majapahit era temples with vastusastra-Manasara narrative. Based on the results of the study, it was found that the temples of the Majapahit era still have relations with vastusastra-Manasara narrative when viewed in terms of figure and mass-space layout. But the relationship between the two can be said to be increasingly decreased. The re-domination of the original culture of Indonesian society in the Majapahit era and the influence of other cultures such as China is thought to be the cause of the waning influence of India on the architecture of the Majapahit temple. This led to the fusion of culture in the Majapahit temple and resulted in variations of new temples that had never existed before. Key Words: candi, majapahit, temple, vastusatra, manasara, relation

Abstract

Abstract- Tectonics in architecture is a construction element associated with the material, goals, and builders of a building. It does not stop there, the result of combining abstract thinking (implicit) and the ability to make (explicit). Craftsmanship also talks about how craftsmen think in creating. The study was conducted to understand the role of designers, craftsmen, in craftsmanship to form tectonics and connections that should be able to bring stories and characters in architecture, especially in this modern era. Oky Kusprianto (1977-2019) was the principal architect of Studio Apta. Studio Apta's works pay a lot of attention to architectural materials and tectonics. Through tectonics, his work presents liveliness of space in cafes, adventures in stores, and solitude in urban forests. The object taken was Lembang Citarasa Warung, the reason being that it was one of the projects that was experimental on material and was still just being built (2017-2018). The articulation of the expression of the burden between the connections is strong with the appearance of honest elements. Thus what needs to be known is the craftsmanship method used in Warung Citarasa which is related to thinking and making and its adaptation in the modern world which is already relatively different from what was known about previous craftsmanship. This study uses a qualitative descriptive method by describing the tectonics that are formed and how they are formed through the craftsmanship process. Data collected through direct observation, literature study and interviews. Tectonics are divided into three based on the main material, namely stone, iron and wood tectonics. The results then become a reference in the identification of craftsmanship in the process of forming the tectonics. The first is based on knowledge (thinking hand) which is subdivided into explicit and implicit knowledge. Then identified again by the skills (working hand) which is divided into analog and digital tools. After that, an analysis of the aspects of collaboration between the development actors responsible for tectonic formation. Finally, the results of the analysis of the three aspects are combined to analyze the craftsmanship process that occurs in each tectonics. Tectonics can be classified into three, namely stone, iron and wood. In experimental wood tectonics, there is little knowledge or experience, but most exchanges of knowledge between actors and the use of analog design tools. In contrast, in stone and iron tectonics, there is more explicit knowledge and experience possessed by actors. The effect, design flow and construction are linear. The majority of stone and iron tectonic design processes use digital media, this is in line with the statement that architect craftsmanship in modern times cannot be separated from digital influence. The lack of digital use is rewarded by the collaborative process between designers and builders who have the same goal in forming the tectonics, strong communication skill and tools, shared common knowledge, and the advancement of analog media in translating hand language using painting software with tablets. Abstract

Abstract - Visual impairment is a term given to someone who does not have healthy vision. To fulfill their daily life needs, people with visual impairment tend to depend on the facilities in public open spaces. Accessibility that should support people with visual impairment in using public transportation facilities is often poorly maintained. This kind of condition could lead to fatal consequences to the safety of persons with disabilities. Options linked to accessing public open spaces for people with visual impairment become limited due to the lack of facilities. The refurbishment has been done at Tanah Abang Station by providing a transit plaza for users that is connected to various public transportation facilities, which enables easy and comfortable navigation. This has become an opportunity, to build better public facilities that are accessible to all users, including for people with visual impairment. Through this effort, the transit plaza should be able to serve as a public space that is beneficial for people with visual impairment, so there are more possibilities to ensure their quality of life. The purpose of this study is to determine the extent to which the transit plaza can provide accessibility for people with visual impairment. The method used is qualitative and data collection was carried out through literature studies, field surveys as well as interviews and simulations with people with visual impairment. The results conclude that the accessibility value referring to technical requirements indicates that the transit plaza sufficiently complies with accessibility standards regarding public open spaces. This value is compared to the experience of people with visual impairment . This study found that there are some differences from the aspect of convenience according to the people with visual impairment's point of view. The mobility in the transit plaza is considered easy and safe by people with visual impairment. When they had to determine direction or orientation, people with visual impairment who were not familiar with transit plaza still had difficulties to navigate independently. When facing these situations, blind people adapted by relying on abilities other than their sight as an alternative. Transit plaza could provide universal convenience for users by accommodate accessibility that can not only encourage the independence of the people with visual impairment, but also support comfort and safety of individuals without visual impairment. Keywords: Visual impairment, accessibility, transit plaza

Abstract

Abstract - Indonesia has a variety of urban tourism village scattered in various regions. The tourism village has various themes according to the character of the are and the residents of the village. Such as Batik Village, Ceramic Village, Rainbow Village, etc. The presence of the concept of an urban tourism village doesn not only occur in Indonesia, but also occurs in various other countries such as Gamcheon Culture Village in Korea, Chefchaouen in Marocco, Marsaxlokk Village in Malta, etc. With the presence of the concept of tourism village, it provides novelty for both humans (tourist and villagers) as the users of space accompanied by their activities. Based on these problems the authors are interested in conducting this research. This research will discuss about what is meant by a tourist village, how tourism activities occur in the two study objects and how architecture as a physical element plays a role in the activities in it. The purpose of this study is to describe how far a village called a tourist village is feasible as a tourist place by introducing the tourism criteria, what are the criteria for a village to be called a tourist village. This research is a descriptive qualitative research, using Kampung Lawas Maspati and Kampung Pelangi Kenjeran as objects of study to be compared based on the tourism criteria itself, to further examine how the physical (architectural) element settings play a role in accommodating tourism activities in the village itself. So that how far the two objects of study meet the existing tourist criteria so that they are feasible as tourist attractions. With this research, it is hoped that it can provide an understanding of what is meant by a tourist village and the importance of the role of architecture in realizing the tourism village it deserves. The results of the research show that the physical elements in Kampung Lawas Maspati meet the three criteria that a tourism village needs to have and there are tourism activities organized by local village managers, while Kampung Pelangi Kenjeran has not fulfilled existing tourism criteria, the availability of physical elements in Kampung Pelangi Kenjeran is very minimal. This proves that the term "tourism" in Pelangi Kenjeran village is still not appropriate as it should be. Key Words: setting, physical elements, activity, urban tourim village

Abstract

Abstract - As a visual language, architectural expressions can be understood through arrangements of its elements with certain patterns or techniques. According to Rob Krier (1988), the assessment of geometric expressions cannot be separated from the composition of architectural forms, including proportion, rhythm, ornament, shape, material, color and texture. Along the way, Tulang Bawang Barat, which was later abbreviated as Tubaba, became a stopover for migrants from various regions. Regent Umar Ahmad pursued the construction of Tulang Bawang Barat by building a mosque and a convention hall to fill the empty fields in Tulang Bawang Barat. The architectural expression of Balai Adat Sesat Agung – with its modernity – considered as success in reproducing historical and cultural identity of Nusantaran architecture. In identifying the expressions of Nusantaran architecture, the analysis of Sesat Agung architecture is carried out in three areas: site, building, and structure. Through descriptive-analytical methods, this research begins by formulating the properties and compositions of Nusantaran architecture expressions forming through related theories, including Nusantaran architectural theory, concepts of properties and composition, and anatomy of architecture theory. Furthermore, the properties and composition of Sesat Agung are studied to identify the expressions of Nusantaran architecture which manifested in the architecture of the Balai Adat Sesat Agung. This study found that the architectural expression of the Sesat Agung has printed a new architectural identity in Tulang Bawang Regency. However, regardless of the form and the aesthetics it carries, one thing that is missing from Sesat Agung architecture is its spatial quality. Key Words: expression, Nusantaran architecture, Sesat Agung.
