Abstract

Abstract- Flying Star Feng Shui is one of many Feng Shui form using compass method. Flying Star Feng Shui uses Lo Shu Square with constantly changing number on each palaces for every periods, unlike traditional Lo Shu Square which has been used for thousands of years. The concept of Flying Star Feng Shui lies on dynamic principle of time which changes the luck of a person. The objects on this study is a few houses in Bandung City which is built in cycle 7 period (1984 – 2003).The methods used to analyze this study is qualitative descriptive, which the writer observe each of the objects directly and analyze them using 2 reference books. David Twicken’s Flying Star - Feng Shui Made Easy and Vincent Koh’s Basic Science of Feng Shui.In the end of this study, the conclusion is Flying Star Feng Shui surely can influence the life of the people living in the house. Some events in their life in cycle 8 can be foreseen by Flying Star Feng Shui, such as robbery, lawsuits, and illness.. Key Words: Flying Star Feng Shui, Houses, Events in the life of house users.

Abstract

Abstract- The growth of globalization is a worldwide phenomenon that is unavoidable and its impact affects a lot of fields, including architecture. Non-local elements, like modernism, that penetrate Indonesia’s culture cause a competition against the local architecture including traditional values, which are reduced due to modernization. Combining modern and local architecture can be seen as an effort to conserve traditional values and answer to the era’s challenge at the same time through the application of modernization.The aim of this research is to understand the meaning of acculturation in architecture, discover which acculturation that occurs in Selasar Sunaryo Art Space architecture and discover what domination that exists in Selasar Sunaryo Art Space’s architecture. Study of synthesis of architecture in Selasar Sunaryo Art Space is done by doing firstly a survey to gain object data, undertake an interview with the architect and client to gain the architectural concept of the object, and re-model the object in 3D. Literature is also done to gain theories about acculturation in architecture, building anatomy theory to describe the study object, also Sundanese and modern architecture theories. Afterwards, the object is analyzed by the said theories and interpreted referring to literature.The result of this research shows that modern architecture dominates Selasar Sunaryo’s architecture, especially in it’s body, floor, structure, and ‘s shape. Synthesis of architecture can be seen from the landscape design and roof design. Overall, Selasar Sunaryo’s architecture is dominated by modern structure and arrangements, although there are several adaptations to the building’s climate context and application of Sundanese architecture concepts to its buildings.Hopefully this thesis would be beneficial to practitioners, academics, and people in general as a contribution to expand the knowledge of local and non-local architecture synthesis, also as a contribution of knowledge that is beneficial within designing process or of continuation of the research. Key Words: acculturation, architecture, modern, Sundanese

Abstract

Abstract- In architecture of public space, the experience of place plays an important role in the making of the good quality of public spaces. The experience of the space is multi-sensory, so architecture should emphasize its attention also on the architectural space approach through auditory experience. The study was conducted to determine the dynamics connection of soundscape experience and Terrace Cikapundung architecture.The research method is qualitative and descriptive analysis. Quantitative measurements are made to complement the qualitative data. The analysis is done through questionnaire distribution, field observation, analysis, and by relating it with the study of theories about public space architecture, soundscape, sacred sounds, sense of place, intention of architecture, and perception theory.In Terrace Cikapundung are found quite a lot of natural sounds, which are considered as sounds that improve the quality of the people spatial experience. The natural sounds that are found there are the sound of birds, wind, and water flow. While the dominant voice heard is the sound of motor vehicle, which is considered as disturbing sound for the audiences in particular “man-made zone” (zone that borders the highway). This indicates that there are some architectural elements that have not been able to work optimally, especially the design of bordering element between the site with the main sound source (Jalan Siliwangi). Furthermore, the concave physical topology and the zonation of “man-made zone” and “natural zone” is well designed, based on the variety characterictic of function, location, and order of architectural elements, that will give us the study and example of spatial making and good experience of place.Through design that concern in the multi-sensory aspects of experience, especially in auditory experience, the experience of space can be felt thoroughly and the quality of a public space can be increased. Key Words: soundscape, architectural element, open public space

Abstract

Abstract-The development of a given settlement or residential area cannot be detached from the phenomenon of the urban kampong succeeding in holding out, based on the concept of harmoniously living together as members of a community in society, and one of the strategies used is keeping a close-knit community. The city of Bandung with its concept of being a creative city supports the idea of having creative kampongs that promote the arts and culture of the local community. The creative kampong is expected to be able to provide solutions by creating a better environment, and one of these solutions is exploiting the potential of the natural and human resources available to improve the local community’s welfare. The aim of this research study is to determine how exactly the community living in the creative kampong of Dago Pojok has been able to enhance the physical setting of a limited amount of space in such creative ways to fulfill the need for a range of activities. The method used for this research project can be classified as qualitative by way of frequent mapping of the physical setting at the creative location selected, based on the outcome of observation and recommendations made by the actual initiator of the creative kampong. This stage was followed by mapping of activities and behavior or attitude in the area under observation over a certain period of time. In order to find out more about the physical setting during incidental activities, the data were obtained from the documentation of the creative kampong. The processed data were subsequently analyzed to determine to which degree the need for activities in a particular physical setting can be attempted by way of creative aspects. In the open space used for everyday activities and creative pursuits, the physical setting initially influenced the activities themselves, and the varied activities went on to provide a context for creativity in the same manner as a physical setting experiences change in keeping with the need for space. The physical elements that undergo change may be categorized as fixed, semi-fixed, and non-fixed elements, and those situated in the open (public) space may be classified as base plane, vertical plane, street accessories, illumination and the scope-related atmosphere.Keywords: change in physical setting, open space, creative kampong, Dago Pojok Kampong

Abstract

Abstract- Indonesia often experiences natural disasters, therefore a transitional residential building is needed for victims who are able to build quickly and easily in mobilization. Bamboo is a local material that exists in Indonesia and has a high sustainability to be used as building materials. The appropriate principle between the characteristics of bamboo and the needs of transitional buildings where used as wall materials. The knock down bamboo wall panel is the answer of the need for fast and easy work in mobilization.The research method used is qualitative descriptive of two study object and design experiment of prototype 1: 1. Researchers will conduct a study of bamboo walls on two study objects Blooming Bamboo Home dan Soe Ker Tie House, also meetings of any deficiencies and advantages from aspects of form, function and context, and construction. Forms include material used, basic dimensional modules, wall weight, and the ability to re-modify walls. Functions and Contexts include the space privacy, resistance, and behavior of walls against wind, solar heat, lighting, and rain. Construction covers the way of bamboo processing into wall panels, connection systems, and can be done massively by the crowd. Potential bamboo wall variants to be explored will be evaluated and developed for the better and new alternative of other wall panels also considered.The most efficient bamboo knock down panels are bamboo slats and woven bamboo booths as massive walls, woven bamboo and bamboo modified blades I as semi-open walls, modified bamboo blades II and polikarbonate as open walls. The most appropriate connection system used in knock down bamboo wall panels is the gypsum screw connection for bamboo wall panel frame joints, bolt nuts and iron plates for knock down bamboo wall panel connections with structures and connections between wall panels. Keywords: Knock down, Bamboo, Sustainable, Wall panel

Abstract

Abstract- A factory within the industrial field is both productive and commercial, with profit as its main orientation of activity. One of the efforts to minimize production cost in a factory is electricity saving through optimizing the utilization of natural lightning as a substitute for the use of lamplight. The lighting design in a factory area of production has to concur with specific activities conducted. The level of illumination and sufficient illumination comfort may improve both workers’ eyesight and concentration. Glass blocks form one of the commonly chosen materials to be applied as natural light apertures. From an economic point of view, glass block material has an edge in terms of low production cost and maintenance. CV. Evergreen Buana Prima Sandang, as children’s clothing factory utilizes natural lighting through glass block apertures, applied to the entire production area and all production stages from beginning to end. Based on theoretical study, they cannot be used to optimize natural lighting in a room, because there is no control over the direction and quality of incoming light. As a host of different activities, the factory’s production area requires a differing quantity of lighting. The research was conducted with the descriptive method and the quantitative approach, starting from initial observation of the study object, the medium of interviews and study of the relevant background literature derived from numerous sources. This was followed by direct measurement in the field as well as design simulation of natural lighting. In the analytical process, the influence of conditions around the spot on the intensity of the light source is described along with the role of glass-block apertures in fulfilling the requirement of light intensity illuminating work space, the influence of types and properties of glass blocks, as well as the influence of position and dimension of the apertures on natural light distribution covering each area of production. Abstract

Abstract- Architectural temples of the middle classical era such as Prambanan and Borobudur temples are thought to have inspired the temples in Indochina. It has become a common guess both among the tour guides in Cambodia or the researchers who reviewed the Khemer Kingdom Architecture. The existence of the relationship between the temple in Java and the temple in Cambodia is possible because Jayawarman II, who later build the kingdom of Khemer, once lived in Java when large middle classical temple style architecture was built. To find out the architectural connections of temples in Java and in Cambodia then the first thing to do is to know all the architectural unsurts in both temples. So the purpose of this study is to know the unsurts of spatial, plan, figures and temple ornaments of the middle classical era of Java and pre-Angkor temple era. This research is done by qualitative method of comparative. Qualitative research is applied by visiting and observing physical objects, then discussed using theories relating to research topics. While the object is selected using purposive sampling method, with the basic object of research is closely related to the style, wholeness and scale. Of the 80 points used in identifying architectural unsurts in the mass structure, floor plan, figures, and ornaments, the authors found 13 very similar points, 50 points to Bakong but not similar, and 17 points missing from Bakong. Based on these results the allegation that the temple of the middle classical era of Java has a relationship with the transitional era are becoming stronger. Key Words: morphology, architectural elements, Borobudur, Prambanan, Bakong

Abstract

Abstract - Dutch East Indies Empire architecture in Indonesia must be preserved as a result of acculturation between a foreign culture and a local one. The century-old Tawang Railway Station in Semarang has been hit by annual rob floods and has undergone somerenovation, but the latter has made the impact of reducing the architectural values of “Indies” style in its features. This research study may deepen understanding of this type of colonial architecture, exploring its application to this railway station. Furthermore, an in-depth analysis determines how function, form and structure have affected the spatial hierarchy of this railway station. This study is descriptive, analytical and interpretative, employing theories dealing with archetypes, ordering principles and Dutch East Indies Empire architecture. After data collection, the analysis compares these theories with the object of study. The findings indicate that this station has indeed applied the concept of the Dutch colonial style, starting from the context of the local area to the building elements, except for the floor. At present, the latter has already been changed in its entirety, from the initial building stage to its current state, where the specific “Indies” character can no longer be discerned. The zenith of hierarchy can be observed in the main lobby whose function is to receive visitors in its cube-shaped space similar to the Sokoguru (central Javanese pillar) and the cupola not found in any other part of the building. The building mass of the station is symmetrical in keeping with its typical “Indies” character, but the function of the interior space is asymmetrical. This shows the importance of achieving a high degree of spatial efficiency to make the activities run smoothly and effectively. Abstract

Abstract- Arabian came to Indonesia to trade and spread Islam in Indonesia. They came by sea or river. Then they stayed and grew a family with locals on an area. That area became a settlement in a form of a village that known as Arabian Village. One of the famous Arabian Villages is Al-Munawar Arabian Village in Palembang. Al-Munawar Arabian Village is the oldest village in Palembang. This village is still preserve its relics and culture nowadays. One of its remaining relics is eight buildings that decided as heritage buildings. These 8 buildings have their own unique hundreds of year historical background. Three buildings out of eight buildings are picked as object of research.These buildings are land house. These houses adapted Palembang architectural style, which is pyramid house. Land house has “kekijing” in front of its house. Kekijing is a floor with ± 30-40cm terraces.  Each step of floor illustrates the depth of faith. The division of land house room follows the division of Islamic residential space. The second building is stone house with Indian architectural style.  The wall thickness of this house is ± 37cm. Stone house has an increase of ± 60 cm from ground level. The floor material uses tiles imported directly from Italy. The division of stone house room also follows the division of Islamic residential space. The third building is greenhouse. Greenhouse is a residential home that has changed its function to islamic school with the same shape. This house consists of two floors, the first floor uses brick wall and the second floor uses wooden wall. The division of greenhouse room doesn’t follow the division of Islamic residential space because the building is not a residential house anymore.It’s important to study the cultural heritage buildings in this village. Considering the number of villages and traditional buildings that forgotten because of the modernization. Furthermore, there are few abandoned traditional houses and changed its shape and material became more modern.The purpose of this study is to know the shape, room and the order of the house in Al-Munawar Arabian Village on the Palembang Musi River bank.This is so that traditional buildings in the village will not extinct and become learning materials for all people.The method used is qualitative method. If judged based on the purpose of the research is descriptive research. The data collecting technique are literature study, field observation and interview to the head of neighborhood in the village. This research shows that style of a building and the material that used on the objects of research are different. In addition, the division of residential space such as stone house and greenhouses are still using the division of Islamic residential space, while the greenhouse is no longer. Key Words: Arabic village Palembang, Al-Munawar village, form, space and order.

Abstract

Abstract - Illumination forms an important factor in a building. Lighting, and especially its natural form, is an important element to be considered in an office building. Proper natural lighting in an office can create a way to economize on energy. Besides, it may create a conducive atmosphere, affecting the work spirit and inspire the zest of the employees, so a lighting system must be designed to reach the highest possible degree of effectiveness. The effectiveness of natural lighting can be regarded from the quantitative and qualitative angle. Attaining the purpose of naturadaylight is influenced by various factors, including the daylight apertures that let daylight or sunlight seep in, along with surfaces or panels that reflect light so that it bounces back. Therefore, we must find out how these daylight apertures and reflective surfaces influence the effectiveness of lighting in office buildings. The Rumah Kindah office in Jakarta happens to be one of the office buildings that make use of natural lighting with daylight apertures that are unique, along with several kinds of reflective surfaces. This type of research can be classified as descriptive-evaluative, making use of the quantitative-qualitative approach. The Rumah Kindah office as the object of rsearch consists of three work spaces displaying the characteristics of daylight apertures that are uniform but not exactly the same, and the same applies to the reflective surfaces, so the research was conducted in these three office rooms. The relevant set of data was collected by way of observation, taking measurements and through the medium of interviews held at the object of research as well as using software to support simulation for the sake of acquiring the data required. These data can be analyzed by employing the theories that are available. The analysis results indicate that the daylight apertures oriented to the East-West but differing in terms of type, position, dimension and material produce a quantity and quality that varies from space to space. Besides, the reflective surfaces inside and outside the rooms play an important role in attaining the desired effectiveness of natural lighting in each of the work spaces at the Rumah Kindah office in Jakarta.
