Abstract

Royce explains the meaning of idea as a representative of facts or as a idea which correspond with that facts. The facts were understood as external meanings of idea, whereas the essence as internal meaning of idea. The probelm of this research is how the relation between the concept of idea and the facts? and what is the criterion of the truth? The aim of this research are to systematize and to evaluate concept of Criticism which be promoted by Royce as a foundation to definite the criterion of the truth.The material object of this research are the books have been written by Royce and be supported by the books of researchers which have analyzed Royce's books. Dara collected by analyzed by interpretation, coherency intern, and comparative methods. Interpretation and intern coherency method are intended to systematize Criticism concept of Royce. Comparative method is used to evaluate and to compare Royce's concept with other Criticism concept.The result of this research appers that meaning of internal idea an intuitive knowledge about the ultimate, which have the highest truth. The intuitive knowledge is direct knowledge, so that its charactersitic is a potential truth until be examined by the others subject. The facts are external meaning which not the all of them can by systematized by the internal meaning of idea. The external meaning not automatically as a truth. The truth of knowledge about the objects is a process of systematicize the external meaning by the internal meaning of idea.

Abstract

Degradation of moral consciousness, especially in the politic and Indonesian government bureaucracy, in recent times that was pictured by various anomalies and immorality, such as a corruption, has become a negative “cultural norm”, which seem very difficult to be controlled. The condition of national spirit and morality suggested the need of redevelopment of model of character education (character building) as a national healing. Imam Zarkasyi implemented several principles of character building in the Pesantren of Darussalam Gontor. He taught his pupils on the basis of the virtues of the excellences with refer to the Panca Jiwa and the Four Mottos of Modernity of the Pesantren as their living values. His reformative efforts in the context of contemporary Islamic education are actually intended to the development of character, in other words, “character building”, by implementing the principle of the Golden Mean of Ibn Miskawaih. Some aspects of Zarkasyi's principles of education that might be supportive for developing the national character education program, and still relevant for today are: firstly, moral education should have the leadership insights; secondly, moral education should have the objective moral values as the teleological purposes; thirdly, moral education should be built through the best environment, in order to be optimized and efficient; and fourthly, moral education curriculum should be integrated and comprehensive. So, the Zarkasyi's concept of character building, and the education movement became the concept of character education that quite mature and should be extracted by our nation.

Abstract

Negative images of Samin community until now is still felt by a small community in Central Java. This is not completely true because the people of Samin also has ethical values in their life. This study is a library research, with the moral values of Samin community as material object and ethics as formal object. The purpose of this study was to explore the ethics of Samin community. The results of this study confirm that there are two ethics in the local wisdom of Samin community, namely theological and deontological ethics. Theological ethics rooted in the book of the Religion of Adam Jamus Kalimasada, associated with nobleness of soul and character. Deontological ethics, as obligations contained in the teachings of Samin, such as: aja srei drengki, tukar padu, dahpen kemeren, and mbadhog colong. This principles are categorically imperative which must be implemented in daily life that also affect the harmony of the universe.

Abstract

This article is an exploration of moral teachings of Serat Panitisastro, one of the most popular javanese literature in Majapahit era, and this Serat became popular again in Surakarta Kingdom in nineteenth century. The exploration is intended to reach better understanding of the moral teaching of the Serat as these are significantly rooted in the javanese culture.It will be demonstrated that the core of moral teaching in Serat Panatisastro is an ethics of virtues and the most important of which is a presentation of human virtues, to include the promotion of virtous conduct, and the prohibition of commiting insult. Each of the teaching emphasises self-image of the person and describes how she or he should plays a role in society based on this self-image.It is suggested that in the contemporary era, the moral teachings of Serat Panitisasto remain to have some relevance, while some need to be reinterpreted.
