Abstract

Reservoir water quality is a critical factor in supporting the functions of raw water supply, irrigation, and the sustainability of aquatic ecosystems. This study analyzes the spatiotemporal dynamics of water quality in the PTPN XII Pelaihari Reservoir during 2023–2025 with Sentinel-2 satellite imagery. The main parameters observed include Total Suspended Solids (TSS), turbidity, chlorophyll-a, and Colored Dissolved Organic Matter (CDOM) as indicators of physical and biological conditions. Using a quantitative, descriptive remote sensing approach, Level-2A Sentinel-2 imagery was processed in Google Earth Engine. Analysis was conducted for both dry and rainy seasons to assess hydrological impacts. Results show significant seasonal dynamics: TSS decreased from 97 mg/L in 2023 to 65 mg/L in 2025, while turbidity rose to 0.78. Chlorophyll-a increased in the 2024 dry season, indicating higher phytoplankton productivity, but declined in 2025 due to turbidity. CDOM rose in 2025, suggesting more dissolved organic matter. Spatially, the dry season showed stable, homogeneous parameter distribution, while the rainy season was more heterogeneous due to runoff. The PTPN XII Pelaihari Reservoir has potential as a raw water source, though quality fluctuates seasonally. Sentinel-2 remote sensing enables effective, sustainable water quality monitoring and supports adaptive management.

Abstract

Population health is strongly influenced by environmental conditions, particularly in coastal tourism areas where rapid development often outpaces sanitation infrastructure. This study aimed to analyze sanitation-related risks associated with the occurrence of environmentally based diseases in coastal tourism settlements in Biduk-Biduk District, East Kalimantan. A cross-sectional study was conducted in Biduk-Biduk Village and Teluk Sulaiman Village involving 139 households selected through purposive sampling based on predefined criteria. Data were analyzed using Chi-square tests and odds ratio analysis to examine associations between sanitation conditions and disease occurrence. The results showed that household solid waste management was statistically associated with disease occurrence (p = 0.035), although the direction of the association was inconsistent and should be interpreted with caution. In contrast, household wastewater management demonstrated a significant and more consistent association (p = 0.018), with inadequate wastewater management increasing the likelihood of environmentally based diseases (OR = 3.710; 95% CI: 1.307–10.527). These findings indicate that wastewater management represents a more direct and dominant pathway of environmental health risk compared to solid waste management in coastal tourism settings. Strengthening integrated environmental health risk assessment approaches and prioritizing sustainable household and communal wastewater management systems, supported by cross-sectoral collaboration, are essential to reduce environmental health risks and support sustainable coastal tourism development

Abstract

Patient safety is a core component of high-quality healthcare provision. A patient safety–oriented culture plays a vital role in reducing adverse events, enhancing care quality, and promoting patient-centered services. This study sought to evaluate the patient safety culture at Kendari City Regional General Hospital and to identify dimensions representing key strengths and areas for improvement. A quantitative cross-sectional survey design was applied, involving 100 respondents from both clinical and non-clinical service units. Data were collected using the Hospital Survey on Patient Safety Culture (HSOPSC 1.0) instrument, comprising twelve safety culture dimensions. The findings showed that the overall mean positive response rate for patient safety culture was 61%, indicating a good level of implementation. Key strengths were observed in organizational learning (92%), management support for patient safety (89%), and teamwork within units (89%). In contrast, weaker performance was found in the non-blaming approach to errors (37%), inter-unit collaboration (48%), and patient handover and transition processes (10%). Conclusion: The Kendari City Regional General Hospital has a solid foundation of patient safety culture; however, strengthening is required in non-punitive reporting systems, cross-unit communication, and standardization of patient handover processes to sustainably prevent patient safety risks
