Abstract

Purslane herb (Portulaca oleracea L.) is one of the plants that is considered as a valuable plant in the pharmaceutical world for the future because of its antioxidant content and high nutritional value. Endophytic fungi can produce secondary metabolites that have activities similar to those produced by their host plants, where these metabolites have medicinal potential. In previous studies, it was found that the ethyl acetate extract of endophytic fungi had antidiabetic activity in the α-glucosidase enzyme inhibition test. This research aims todetermine the antioxidant activity of the ethyl acetate extract of the endophytic fungus of purslane herb (Portulaca oleracea L.) using the Test method1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH). Purslane herbaceous endophytic fungus isolate (Portulaca oleracea L.) code FEK purified for 3 days. Then, fermented using MYB medium for 21 days. After that, extracted to become a thick extract. Furthermore, the DPPH test was carried out using a vitamin C comparison solution. Based on the IC50 value of the ethyl acetate extract of the endophytic fungus of purslane herb code FEK, it was found to be 64.26 μg/mL which is a relatively strong antioxidant activity

Abstract

Infectious diseases can be caused by the entry of microorganisms such as bacteria, fungi, parasites, and viruses that can cause diseases in humans. One of the plants used empirically by the Weda community in Central Halmahera is the stem part of the wole woe plant. The aim of this study was to determine the antimicrobial activity of the ethanol extract of wole woe stems against pathogenic microbes such as Propionibacterium acnes, Escherichia coli, Salmonella thypi, Shigella dysentriae, Vibrio cholerae, and Candida albicans. This study used the agar diffusion method with various concentrations of 2.5%, 5%, and 10%, and positive controls for bacteria with chloramphenicol, positive controls for fungi with nystatin, and DMSO as a negative control. Based on the average diameter of the inhibition zone obtained, the test microbes were classified into the medium-strong category because they had an inhibition zone diameter ranging from 9 mm to 13 mm. The positive control for chloramphenicol for bacteria was classified into the very strong category because it had an inhibition zone diameter of >20 mm, while the positive control for nystatin for fungi was classified into the strong category because it had an inhibition zone diameter of >10 mm. Based on these tests, it can be concluded that the ethanol extract of wole woe stems has antimicrobial activity

Abstract

Free radicals are a form of reactive oxygen compounds, compounds that have unpaired electrons. Free radicals are independent atoms, molecules or compounds that have unpaired electrons, and therefore are highly reactive and unstable. Antioxidants are compounds that can slow down the oxidation process of free radicals. Ficus is a species that is rich in polyphenolic compounds, such as flavonoids which are strong antioxidants which can help in the prevention and treatment of various diseases caused by oxidative stress. The purpose of this study was to determine the value of antioxidant activity in the ethyl acetate fraction of kebo rubber leaves (Ficus elastica) using the DPPH (2,2-Diphenyl-1-Picrylhydrazil) free radical scavenging method based on the IC50 value. Based on the research results, it was found that the ethyl acetate fraction of kebo rubber leaves (Ficus elastica) contained flavonoids, phenolics, tannins and saponins and had antioxidant activity with an IC50 value of 70.74 µg/mL and included in the strong category

Abstract

Inflammation is the natural protective response of the body to tissue damage brought on by toxic chemicals, microbiological organisms, or physical trauma. The purpose of this investigation is to find out how active the ethanol extract of Wole woe stem is and how much of it is needed to get results. This anti-inflammatory study was conducted on 15 rats using the rat hind paw edema method. The rats were divided into 5 groups: group I served as a negative control (Na.CMC), group II served as a positive control (diclofenac sodium 0.9 mg/kgBW), groups III, IV, V received doses of Wole woe stem ethanol extract ranging from 100 mg/kgBW to 400 mg/kgBW, respectively. Oral administration was used for all the test materials, and after an hour, each test animal received a subplantar injection of 0.1 milliliters of 1% carrageenan solution. A plethysmometer was used to take readings every hour for a period of eight hours to get an accurate reading of the volume of the rat’s foot. The collected test results were subjected to statistical analysis, in which a one-way ANOVA and a post hoc LSD test were used. According to the findings of the research that was carried out, it was discovered that an ethanol extract of Wole woe stems possessed anti-inflammatory action, and the most effective dose was found to be 400 milligrams per kilogram of body weight (mg/kgBW).

Abstract

Indonesia as a developing country has limitations in overcoming health problems. Based on the 2018 National Basic Health Research (Riskesdas), the prevalence of degenerative diseases is increasing. The main cause of death was stroke (15.4%) followed by hypertension, diabetes mellitus, and tumors. One of the causes of this degenerative disease is oxidative stress, namely the large number of oxidants in the body through an oxidation process. Antioxidants are compounds that prevent or postpone oxidation reaction of a molecule by inhibiting initiation or propagation process of the chain oxidation reaction The chemical structure of antioxidants, free radical sources, and physico-chemical properties of different sample preparations can provide various antioxidant activity test results. Therefore, a selective antioxidant activity analysis method is needed for a certain type of sample. The purpose of this study was to test the antioxidant activity of the ethanol extract of fig fruit using the DPPH and FRAP. Methods This research was conducted using the antioxidant activity test method DPPH and FRAP. Based on the research results of antioxidant activity using the DPPH method, the IC50 value of the ethanol extract of fig fruit was 121.74 μg/mL and the FRAP method obtained a value of 11.11 mgAAE/g extract

Abstract

Kasumba turate (Carthamus tinctorius L.) contains phenolic compounds of flavonoids and carotenoids which have antioxidant, antibacterial, antiviral, anti-inflammatory, antiallergic and anticancer activities. This study aims to obtain isolates of endophytic fungi that have potential as antibacterial using the TLC-Bioautography method. This research was conducted by isolating endophytic fungi from the leaves of kasumba turate (Carthamus tinctorius L.) and after that purification and macroscopic tests were carried out and eight pure isolates were obtained. The results of the isolate screening tests with IFDKT 5 and IFDKT 6 codes showed the highest inhibition. Then tested the antibacterial activity by TLC-Bioautography. The isolates with IFDKT code 5 showed five spots were active against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Rf1 0.83; Rf2 0.65; Rf3 0.47; Rf4 0.30; Rf5 0.07), and six spots were active against bacteria Staphylococcus epidermidis (Rf1 0.94; Rf2 0.83; Rf3 0.65; Rf4 0.47; Rf5 0.30, Rf6 0.07). Then, the isolates with code IFDKT 6 showed four active spots against Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa (Rf1 0.80; Rf2 0.58; Rf3 0.40; Rf4 0.10), and five spots were active against Staphylococcus epidermidis (Rf1 0.96; Rf2 0.80; Rf3 0.58; Rf4 0 .40; Rf5 0.10). Therefore, fermentate isolate of the endophytic fungus of kasumba turate leaves (Carthamus tinctorius L.) has the potential to inhibit Staphylococcus aureus, Stahpyloccous epidermidis and Pseudomonas aeruginosa bacteria that cause skin infections
