But in a fact, the icon of Samarinda is not desirable again by the public because they have an issue that makes this icon become weak and has not good quality or as a good public space standardization (Issue of Concern), such as security, safety, health, attraction, comfort, accessibility and also raciness . And to comply those criteria, it should be having good components (Scope of Issue), for this research it can be used qualitative descriptive method it based on the fact in the field and also the real evidence. This approach based on revitalization theory and good space public theory. For the conclusion, the standardization, a space of quality must have normative criteria so a space public can be survive. Abstract

Seating arrangement in a classroom is one of classroom management method. In general, a college classroom in Indonesia applying linear layout seating arrangement with the front of the classroom as its orientation. Observations carried out on two classrooms and 70 students of Interior Design Major at Faculty of Art and Design in ITB. Petrel software were used to generate data such as image density deployment in a calssroom. The results of the analysis of observational data indicates that in the linear seating arrangement, which is usually applied in a classroom, a high density of students sitting position occurs in the area behind the classroom or the most distant from the source material. It is known to potentially create an unproper classroom atmosphere for a lecture to be established.

Abstract

The existence of shophouse in Indonesia has been started in the 17th century at the Colonial Era brought by Chinese traders.Shophouse is considered as a solution of the increasing density of population in Indonesia and land limitation. Shophouse typology adapt along with time and its surroundings. Along with its development, nowadays shophouse’s design had its own problem. Basically shophouse is supposed to accomodate two functions which is residential and stores but its residential function become less dominant than its commercial function. One of the causes is the shophouse design can’t meet the resident’s social needs satisfaction. Method that used in this research is comparative by comparing shophouse design in Colonial era with shophouse design that commonly found in Indonesia. Based on the study, it showed that the shophouse design in Colonial era was able to accommodate social functions among the inhabitants while the shophouse design that is commonly found in Indonesia focused in terms of economy (how quickly sold) and ignore the residential needs in their design. The study is expected to provide benefits in shophouse design in future and can contribute the knowledge in the realm of architecture.

Abstract

In recent times, there’s an active living design trend in cities around the world, giving chances for people to actively move inside the city, making city healthier. Active Living can occur within pedestrian way along shopping street corridor which has potential to move shoppers from one store to another through walking. Pedestrian way along shop corridor are potentially attractive for people move around inside the city. The purpose of this study is to give us information about how far active living concept has been implemented within L. L. R. E. Martadinata street. The information and analysis can be use for further development in pedestrian way design. Our study conducted through analyzing existing active design problems along with literature studies about active living in design. Within the study, we conclude that L. L. R. E. Martadinata Street hasn’t quite well providing active living movement for shopping street pedestrian way. Pedestrian way has become uncomfortable, for people to walk from store to store within street corridor. There’s a missing value about active living, where people rather use automobile than actively moving along street corridor.

Abstract

The old downtown area of Banda Aceh holds high historical value, as evidenced by the many historic relics that still survive as a historic object in the region. The existence of these ancient artifacts can complement the historical narrative as well as the authentic proof of the identity of the city of Banda Aceh. The central area of Banda Aceh requires interesting public spaces to make the existence of these historic assets more prominent as an element of the attraction of this historic area. This study aims to strengthen the identity of the downtown area of Banda Aceh through an architectural design concept in a potential public corridor that has not been optimally utilized. The idea is to assemble historic spaces in this corridor to make it easier and convenient for pedestrians to access. This research is done by recording visual image of open space in public corridor area to capture visual picture and to know physical quality of public spaces in the location. Increased visual accentuation in the public corridors of the downtown area of Banda Aceh can form visual sequences that provide different spatial experiences. The experience of this space arises from the historical space-themed space phases supported by the gradual display of space elements. The key to success in strengthening the identity of this corridor is the selection of the design of appropriate elements of space, in accordance with the character of space that can represent the values and historical identity of the region.

Abstract

The Madurese community is known as an individual, independent and subsistent corn farming community, identified as having three main territories: residential territory, open space territory and agricultural landscape territory. The distance between clusters of distant residential causes is referred to as individual society as well as independent. The dependence of life on crops causes the distance of dwelling with the agricultural landscape so close that it is called subsistence society. Land-based economic morality, due to the persistence of maintaining spatial territory. So the fundamental question of research is how the third spatial pattern of territory in the village of Laok Madura Madura? The strategy used is ethnography, with qualitative research design. The main data collection methods were in-depth interviews, no open questions, with typical case sampling techniques in four occupancy based on five criteria: civitas, activity, shelter pattern, agricultural landscape pattern and artifacts existence of crop storage object. Internal validation in the form of observation, measurement and architectural documentation, caused by the characteristic of ethnic sub-ethnic of Madura, so that the head of village is not a source of internal validation, but the participant as the owner of the dwelling. The analysis is done by comparing with anthropological-architectural concept, human space concept, also with related theme study. The results obtained at least found the embodiment of the concept of spatial patterns called habitat. The concept of a spatial pattern called habitat consists of: place, environment and landscape. The arrangement of the three forms a hierarchical bubble that places in the environment, while place and environment are in the landscape. Referring to the concept of architectural-anthropological, the hierarchy of these three elements is referred to as: habitat.

Abstract

Jakarta’s dense population has caused a disorder in the urban system by negatively impacting its streams. Therefore, this research aims to find out the urban district design criterias with rainwater harvesting system and how to implement them in residential areas of Kebon Melati, Tanah Abang. Data collecting techniques used in this research include literature studies, field observation, and interviews. The proposed solution to Jakarta’s rainwater problems is to design a district which incorporates the four potential urban design theory applications into it. The first theory is about land use related to storage and drainage system. The second theory is about vehicle circulation and pedestrian paths related to roadblock gaps and permeable materials. The third theory is about building mass and shape related to catchment area, conveyance, and green roof. The last theory is about open spaces related to water retention basins. The goal of this urban district design is to develop and decrease the speed of rainwater flow in Kebon Melati.
