Abstract

The prevalence of knee osteoarthritis (OA) patients will increase along with the escalation of life expectancy. Complementary and alternative therapies like topical plant oils have been used to reduce pain in several countries. However, the effectiveness of this topical plant oil is not yet known, especially in patients with knee OA in Indonesia. This study aims to assess the effectiveness of topical plant oils on pain for knee OA patients through literatures review. The literature search was conducted using 5 electronic databases, namely PubMed, ScienceDirect, Emerald Insight and Cochrane (Central). The search for literature that matches the topic of literature review using PICO, after that a review is carried out using the PRISMA method. On initial search found 412 journals, then filtered according to the inclusion criteria, which are full text, English, 2015-2020 publications, and Randomized Control Trial design. The journals be obtained were filtered again by the title and the abstract then read the full text. There were 7 selected journals that matched to the inclusion criteria and research purposes after a critical assessment using the Joanna Briggs Institute (JBI) checklist for Randomized Controlled Trials. Topical plant oils are effective in reducing joint pain without side effects. These positive findings can be applied in Indonesia. Combination with other non-pharmacological therapies is suggested in future studies to increase the effectiveness of topical plant oils for knee OA patients in reducing joint pain.

Abstract

With the new implementation of distance learning, adolescents have more time to access the internet. Lack of surveillance from parental figures and developing senses of mental stability make adolescents susceptible to the negative influence of the internet such as cyberbullying. This systematic literature review aims to examine the incidence of cyberbullying and its effect on the risk of mental health disorders and suicide among adolescents during the COVID-19 pandemic. A total of 10 cross-sectional studies were sorted out from major electronic journal databases: PubMed, Science Direct, BMC, Sage Journal, and Google Scholar using the following search term combinations: “adolescents” “cyberbullying” “suicide” “depression”. The range for adolescents age was 11-18 years. These studies identified and examined general internet use, the experience of cyberbullying, effects on mental health disorder, and risk of suicide published from January 2020 to July 2021. Cyber victimization was positively associated with stress, suicidal ideation, and avoidance which is also a significant predictor of self-harm. Adolescents who experienced cyberbullying were 2-3.14 times more likely to report experiencing suicidal ideations. Suicidal attempts were significantly 2.14 times higher on adolescents who have cyberbullying experience. Previously victimized adolescents have a 15.5% higher chance of being cyberbullied. Internet usage and addiction have direct effects on mediating cyber victimization and adolescents’ psychological symptoms. This study has given broader insight into how cyberbullying can affect mental health in adolescents and identify the gaps for further longitudinal research on cyberbullying among adolescents.

Abstract

Pain is a devastating outcome following cardiac surgery due to routine procedures, including chest tube removal, deep breathing, and coughing exercise. Pharmacological treatment requires complementary interventions in addressing the post-acute pain phase. This study aimed to identify the application of complementary and alternative medicine (CAM) to reduce postoperative pain after cardiac surgery. A literature search was conducted by exploring original studies on the Google Scholar, PubMed NCBI, ProQuest, and ScienceDirect database that published in the last five years (2016-2021), enrolled adult participants who were undergoing cardiac surgery, and evaluated the outcome of CAM therapy on the postoperative pain after the cardiac surgery. Eighteen original studies were analyzed and synthesized. Thirteen studies employed randomized controlled trial, four studies applied quasi-experimental, and one study used one group pre-post-test design. Among these studies, ten studies focused on the manipulative and body-based practices domain (cryotherapy and massage). The application of relaxation exercise, music therapy, and distraction technique from the mind-body intervention domain was discussed in six studies. Only three studies reported the utilization of therapy from the alternative medical system, biologically-based therapy, and energy therapy domain. The majority of the CAM interventions provided significant effects in postoperative pain relief after cardiac surgery. Nurses should be able to assign appropriate CAM therapies for each patient, although all domains of CAM consider as an effective modality for postoperative pain relief after cardiac surgery. Hence, the CAM therapy would be a proper complement for the pharmacological therapies, effective in reducing the pain, and provides a chance for the patient to manage their pain independently.

Abstract

Stunting is one of the nutritional problems in the world. Stunting is predicted to increase by 15% worldwide due to the pandemic. Specific nutritional interventions are one of the stunting prevention interventions carried out by the health sector that have been shown to reduce one-third of the prevalence of stunting in the world. The purpose of this paper is to get an overview of the implementation of specific nutritional intervention programs in stunting prevention in Indonesia. The article used in this literature review was published in 2012-2021. The databases used are PubMed and Google Scholar. Eleven selected articles for analysis. One article explained that the prevalence of stunting differs by region and the incidence is higher in eastern Indonesia. Two articles describe the specific nutritional intervention programs in Indonesia Six articles discuss the implementation of each program in specific nutritional interventions. Programs that have been running well are additional feeding, pregnant women, Initiation of Early Breastfeeding, breastfeeding, vitamin A and zinc administration. Poor implementation is exclusive breastfeeding and immunization. Two articles discussing the evaluation of the implementation of specific nutritional interventions in Indonesia are already good, the obstacles found are the lack of even spread of health workers. Researchers suggest that an evaluation is needed for the implementation of specific nutritional intervention programs.
