Abstract

Learning media is a tool that can assist the process of transferring knowledge from teacher to student so that learning is more effective. This literature study provides a comprehensive study of the benefits and role of instructional media in learning mathematics. This literature systematics uses Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analysis (PRISMA) as a research approach. The PRISMA stages include: identification, screening, eligibility, and include. Acquisition of 113 articles sourced from Scopus, ERIC, and Proquest databases taken in the last decade. Through PRISMA, 12 review articles were obtained, which became data to answer research questions. The results showed that Indonesia has the most research areas, 9 out of 12 studies. SMA level has the most application of instructional media from the research collected. Various types of media are used, and these various types of media result in the development of various mathematical materials through learning media. Some of the material developed includes geometry (in seven studies), trigonometry (in two studies), as well as material on functions, algebra, and quadratic equations (each in one study). Learning media can also develop mathematical cognitive abilities, including mathematical problem-solving, mathematical understanding, mathematical communication, critical mathematical thinking, mathematical representation, mathematical reasoning, and spatial abilities. In addition, affective abilities can also be developed, such as learning independence (in two studies), self-confidence, creativity, and learning concentration.

Abstract

The progress of technology necessitates educators to enhance the quality of education and establish an effective and innovative learning environment. Mathematics is often a challenging field of study for students, as they struggle to comprehend abstract mathematical concepts. As professional educators, teachers must be capable of addressing these difficulties. One approach to overcoming these challenges is by providing simple and engaging learning resources for students. Technology is expected to provide convenience for teachers in improving their teaching abilities. By utilizing Geogebra, both teachers and students can engage in visual exploration to understand abstract mathematical concepts, conduct simulations, and approach problem-solving from various angles in a more intuitive manner. For instance, students can explore the relationship between a linear function and its graph by adjusting the line's parameters. The research was conducted on students in the fourth semester of mathematics education who took the Mathematics Learning Media subject, semester IV of the 2021 curriculum of the Faculty of Teacher Training and Education, the Mathematics Education Study Program at Sebelas Maret University Surakarta for the 2022/2023 academic year which consist of 44 students. Based on the conducted research, it was determined that the Geogebra application can enhance and foster the development of students' mathematical skills. Furthermore, through the visualization of guidebooks, researchers observed that students became more practical, imaginative, and inventive in explaining the implementation of the Geogebra application, particularly in the context of mathematics.

Abstract

AbstractTeaching is a dynamic process of communication in which students and instructors continually interact together based on the situations and objectives that must be satisfied in the academic context. Anxiety concerning a specific subject is experienced by most students in the academic context, particularly in mathematics. Teaching practices, self-efficacy, and students’ anxiety in class settings directly contribute to the realization of educational objectives. Accordingly, in the university context mathematics attainment is commonly influenced by students’ self-efficacy, and their level of anxiety. The current study tried to scrutinize the relationship between mathematics freshmen students’ self-efficacy and their anxiety level on their academic enactment. This study was conducted on a group of 120 freshmen university students from different faculties who have experienced mathematics course in their classes in Islamic Azad University North Tehran Branch. In the questionnaires, students were asked to express their ideas related to different phases of teaching math in their classes. The questionnaires were adapted based on the Iranian teaching context to evaluate university students’ mathematics self-efficacy and mathematics anxiety. The outcomes of Pearson Correlation (r (118) = -.654 represented a large effect size, p < .05) specified that there was a significant, negative, and large relationship between self-efficacy and anxiety. The outcomes of the current study are also helpful for instructors who wish to gain better insight into their students’ mathematics self-efficacy and anxiety to enhance their students’ attainment.

Abstract

The purpose of this study to determine the effect of learning styles on students' understanding of mathematical concepts, the influence of intellectual intelligence on students' understanding of mathematical concepts and the effect of the interaction of learning styles and intellectual intelligence on students' understanding of mathematical concepts. The research method used is ex post facto. The sample size 123 students consist of 32 students with visual type, 54 students with auditory type and 37 students with kinesthetic type, the sampling technique used is cluster sampling. Data collection was carried out by giving a test of understanding mathematical concepts and distributing student learning style questionnaires. The results showed: 1). There is an insignificant effect of learning style on the understanding of mathematical concepts in grade 10 high school students in Bogor City. This is evidenced by the value of sig. = 0.573 > 0.05 and FH = 0.559 So there is no difference in understanding of mathematical concepts between groups of students with visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning styles. This means that students with visual, auditory, and kinesthetic learning styles have the same abilities. 2). There is a significant influence of intellectual intelligence on the understanding of mathematical concepts in grade 10 high school students in the city of Bogor. This is evidenced by the value of sig. = 0.00 < 0.05 and FH = 23.34 So there is a difference in understanding of mathematical concepts between groups of students with high intellectual intelligence and low intellectual intelligence. This means that students with high intellectual intelligence have different abilities with low intellectual intelligence. 3). There is an interactive influence that is not significant enough on learning style and intellectual intelligence of the understanding of mathematical concepts in grade 10 high school students in Bogor City. This is evidenced by the value of sig. = 0.821 > 0.05 and FH = 0.197 so no further test is needed.

Abstract

When a reliability function is found for a particular model, attention should be paid to the factors affecting this model, which often divide these factors into the durability factors possessed by the components of the model and the stress factors to which the components of the model are exposed. In this paper, a reliability function was found for one of the stress-robustness models where the model consists of one component that has robustness expressed by the random variable X  and is subjected to four stresses expressed by random variables (Y1, Y2, Y3, Y4)   assume that the random variables follow the Rayleigh distribution. The distribution parameters were estimated by three methods of estimation (maximum likelihood method, least squares method and weighted least squares method), after which the reliability function of the model was estimated. A Monte Carlo simulation was also performed to compare the results obtained from the estimate using the mean squared error criterion. The comparison showed that ML is the best estimator of the reliability function.
