<![CDATA[This research aims to find out the problems of the architectural Style of the Indis in Boyolali 1910 – 1915 who stay in city center and affected by the existence of the Boyolali village from socio-cultural. The problems related to this study are knowing the background of the history of Boyolali City, development of the architectural style of the building Indis, and social and cultural impact of the architectural style of the building Indis in boyolali. Based on the problem above, this research uses methods of historical research in the form of heuristics, source criticism, interpretation, and historiography. The results are that architecture of Indis have a major influence on the dynamics of Boyolali which tmeeting of two different cultures between European and indigenous cultures. Indis architectural style buildings in Boyolali can be seen in the city center in Pandanaran street Boyolali, and around Merapi and Merbabu street. Appearence architectural style Indis resulting cultural and social impact in the community. The impact of culture reflected in language, sciene and architecture. Social impact on the emergency of class and social status based on architectural style residence, Indis style and education.]]>

<![CDATA[This article aims to portray the Orientalism of Arabs in Larry Charles’s film The Dictator (2012). The research applies Edward Said’s Orientalism to define the Western perspective in representing the awful images of Arabs in the film. It also deploys post-colonial discourse and comedy film theory in defining the distorted images of Arabs which often represented not as its natural form in this comedy genre film. The material object in this paper is The Dictator (2012) by Larry Charles. The formal object is the Arab representing by colonial bias. As the result – throughout many Western and Orientalist creations – Arabs are depicted as bomber, barbaric and lustful.]]>

<![CDATA[In the ecolinguistic view, the relationship between human and nature (ecology) produces a variety of languages (linguistics). Language and environment are two things that influence each other. Change in language, both in the lexicon or grammar, cannot be released from changes in the natural and social environment. On the one hand, environmental changes have an impact on change in language, and on the other hand, the community behavior towards their environment influenced by the language they use. Thus, the dynamics of the existence of the lexicon are affected by changes in the environment of a place the language used. The results of this study prove that there is relationship between language and nature. There are 6 lexicons which be explained in this article. Horbou or buffallo and Dekke or fish: goldfish are lexical items representing fauna. Boras Sipir ni Tondi or Rice and Demban or Sirih or betel leaf are lexical items representing flora. And to the lexical items which representing social environment are Ulos or Woven Cloth and Tortor or Traditional Dance. The six lexical items which are representing natural (two for fauna and flora respectively) and social environment (two lexical items) contain cultural terms in Batak Toba language. Because it is a cultural term, then it cannot be separated from the history of Batak people. The cutural terms then will be analyzed and compared to the present life in Indonesian culture in general. It could have similarities or even differences to the present life in Indonesia. ]]>

<![CDATA[This research identifies deportement and concept of death from Abdul Hadi WM's poetry. Descriptive method and semiotic-structural approach were used in this research. Descriptive method used to identifies and analyze the research object to present systematic, factual, and accurate facts and concept from its population (Dirjen Dikti, 1981: 14.) Semiotic-structural approach is used to reveal the labelling system based on elements from the poetry--that is related to each other and forms one unity of organism. By analyzing Abdul Hadi WM's poem (139 poem titles), can be concluded that (1) Abdul Hadi WM poems were built from its choose of dictions, ryhimes, arrays, and typhography so that it creates death-theme sign and (2) Abdul Hadi WM is a religious poet that can describe and write his deportment about death with subtle but strong words.]]>

<![CDATA[This article aims to examine the identity of a gay African American in the United States portrayed in the Moonlight movie. It uses representation about identity theory which reading Judith Butler's queer approach. The results show the transformation of main character's identity reflected througout his life and his reflectivity to face and overcome any circumtances. He slowly fights back again discrimination and becomes a strong man as well as free from discrimination.]]>

<![CDATA[This study investigates the existence of Gender-Based Violence (GBV) in one of Indonesia English language newspaper The Jakarta Post. This research aims to reveal the existence of this GBV practice in five selected articles under the case of sexual assault happened to Agni, one of UGM students. This research uses qualitative research where there are 131 clauses selected to be analyzed. The analysis uses the Critical Discourse Analysis Fairclough’s model (1989) as a framework, involving Halliday’s Systemic Functional Linguistics (SFL) (2004), Wood’s gendered media (1994), and mass media discourse. The result shows that gender-based violence practice does exist on those selected articles through the use of linguistic tools applied by the journalists. This indication related to three things. They are a misrepresentation of women, rape narrative, and objectivity, where women are depicted to be submissive and passive in media. The result also finds that patriarchal culture also influences the way of The Jakarta Post in presenting the issue about violence which represents that the media abuses the victim of the issue and provides the existence of gender-based violence that The Jakarta Post presents in their articles. <![CDATA[Tujuan dari penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan kategori pembentuk frasa nomina pelaku endosentris atributif dalam istilah-istilah berbahasa Inggris pada bagian kantor depan (front office) hotel. Penelitian yang dilakukan oleh peneliti bersifat deskripstif kualitatif. Penelitian deskriptif bertujuan untuk menjelaskan kategori frase nomina pelaku endosentris atributif dalam istilah-istilah berbahasa Inggris nomina pelaku pada bagian kantor depan (front office) dalam buku ‘Dasar-Dasar Kantor Depan Hotel’. Hasil penelitian ini yaitu kategori frasa nomina pelaku endosentris atributif di bidang front office hotel ada dua yakni atributif yang mendahului unsur pusat dan unsur pusat yang mendahului atribut. Berdasarkan data analisis yang diperoleh, frasa nomina pelaku endosentris atributif di bidang front office hotel berunsur tunggal, kelas kata pada unsur tunggal yaitu noun. Sedangkan atributnya ada yang hanya terdiri satu dan ada yang lebih dari satu atribut. Kelas kata yang termasuk atribut dapat berupa noun, adjective, dan verb. Kategori frasa nomina pelaku endosentris atributif di bidang front office hotel yang berkategori atributif yang mendahului unsur pusat sekurang-kurangnya ditemukan ada 13 data. Sedangkan data yang berkategori frasa nomina pelaku endosentris atributif di bidang front office hotel yang berkategori unsur pusat yang mendahului atributif sekurang-kurangnya ditemukan ada 2 data. ]]>

<![CDATA[Penelitian ini membahas puisi-puisi Joko Pinurbo yang terdapat pada buku “Latihan Tidur X Nyanyian Puisi Baju Bulan” yang dilatarbelakangi pemaknaan ibu oleh anak dengan prinsip-prinsip keibuan. Selain itu juga dilandasi atas penyegaran kembali atas pandangan dari kondisi budaya patriarkhi yang memandang dunia matriarkhi sebagai kelemahan, yaitu anggapan bahwa perempuan sebagai pemilik emosional yang dianggap rendah di masyarakat. Hal ini kemudian ditentang dalam sudut pandang Joko Pinurbo sebagai anak. Pemaknaan atas sosok ibu dalam diri anak juga merupakan fenomena sosial budaya masyarakat yang direpresentasikan melalui puisi. Penelitian ini menggunakan teori psikoanalisis Bachofen dalam menganalisis khususnya pada prinsip keibuan. Metode dalam penelitian ini menggunakan metode analisis deskriptif untuk mengkaji makna ibu dengan prinsip keibuan melalui anak. Hasil analisis menunjukkan bahwa prinsip keibuan merupakan kodrat yang dimiliki perempuan di luar dari kodrat biologis dan kodrat keibuan ini bernilai positif atau simbol kekuatan. Kemudian, sosok ibu memiliki makna, yaitu (1) cinta dan perhatian seorang ibu kepada anak, (2) ibu sebagai pemilik kecantikan atau keindahan, (3) ikatan emosional dan intimasi anak laki-laki dengan ibu, (4) transformasi citra ibu dalam sudut pandang anak, dan (5) ketidakpasivan ibu dalam ranah domestik dan publik.]]>

<![CDATA[This study investigateshow Nike as one of sport apparel product in America represents racial hegemony through linguistics and visual elements selected in the advertisement campaign. Critical Discourse Analysis framework by Fairclough (1989), Systemic Functional Linguistics by Halliday (2004), Systemic Functional Visual Elements by Kress and van Leeuwen (2006), and theory of hegemony by Gramsci (1999) are appliedto analyse and to elaborate the visual and language patterns used by Nike for the purpose of revealing anracial hegemony especially from advertisement campaign in mass media. The data of this study are taken from YouTube in the form of video. Furthermore, to specify the data, Generic Structure by Halliday and Hasan is applied. Then data are processed by using Systemic Functional Linguistics by Halliday (2004) and Systemic Functional Visual Elements by Kress and van Leeuwen (2006) to analyze linguistics and visual elements in the advertisement.The finding discloses that Nike's choices of language or discourse constructs positive image of the minorities in advertisement campaign. Minorities issues such as race, religion, and the stereotype implicetily of their success of being the best athlete in the world. Nike obviously shows of anti racismwhich gives motivations and labels to the minorities through endorse them with its products in "Just Do It" campaign, which then possibly relates to how American society shapes the discourse about minorities involvement in Nike advertisemnet campaign.]]>

<![CDATA[Pernikahan adalah salah satu prosesi yang sakral. Setiap orang pasti menganggap pernikahan adalah momen spesial yang tidak terlupakan. Setiap daerah memiliki gaya pernikahan sesuai dengan adatnya. Permasalahan pada saat ini yaitu pernikahan adat Jawa mulai digantikan dengan kebudayaan yang bersifat modern. Nilai-nilai yang terkandung dalam pernikahan adat Surakarta semakin meluntur. Selain itu makna dan fungsi dalam tata rias dan pakaian tersebut semakin bergeser. Perkembangan teknologi yang semakin pesat membuat masyarakat dapat dengan mudah menerima kebudayaan dari luar. Pada saat ini orang-orang lebih menyukai gaya pernikahan modern yang lebih up to date. Sedangkan pernikahan dengan gaya Adat Jawa dianggap kuno dan ketinggalan jaman. Ada masyarakat yang mudah menerima kebudayan baru dan mencampur adukan dengan tradisi pernikahan lama. Ada pula yang masih mengunakan pernikahan adat Surakarta namun menghilangkan beberapa prosesi yang syarat akan makna. Tujuan dari penelitian ini yaitu untuk mengetahui makna dan filosofi yang terkandung dalam tata rias dan busana adat Surakarta. Dari berbagai hal permasalahan itulah dapat kita ketahui bagaimana sebuah kebudayaan berjalan di tengah arus modernisasi dan bagaimana kebudayaan tersebut terus bejalan dan berkembang dengan kebudayaan-kebudayaan baru yang menenggelamkan kebudayaan lama. ]]>
