The SOSIOHUMANIKA journal is published every May and November. The SOSIOHUMANIKA journal is devoted, but not limited to, Social Sciences education, Humanities education, and any new development and advancement in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences education. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Listening, speaking, reading and writing are the four basic competency skills in the teaching and learning process of the Malay Language in schools. However, listening and speaking skills tend to be neglected either in primary or secondary schools, but the situation in secondary schools are more serious. This study is carried out to observe the causes, problems and effects of the negligence of listening and speaking skills among the secondary schools students. Descriptive statistic analysis shows that the native speakers gain a higher score in the two skills compared to non-native speakers. The main cause that teachers neglect these skills is students dislike to give their opinions verbally due to their poor mastery of vocabulary and lack of self-confidence. Teachers are regarded as not spending their time in teaching listening and speaking skills in class and they tend to focus more on reading and writing skills. This problem occurs as a result of the fact that no courses about the two skills were organised by Education Ministry and the examination-oriented system. On students’ view, they are facing the interference of their mother tongue language. Hence forth, the Education Minister, the State Education Department, teachers and students need to pursue high awareness about the importance of mastering the listening and speaking skills because these skills are the most important and they are the basic skills in our daily life.Key words: listening, speaking, reading and writing’s competencies, and the problems and effects of the negligence all of it among the Malaysian’s secondary schools students.  About the Authors: Dr. Chew Fong Peng ialah Pensyarah di Fakulti Pendidikan UM (Universiti Malaya), Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. Abstract

RESUME: Tujuan penelitian ini adalah untuk merumuskan konsep dan teori tentang etnopedagogi PKn (Pendidikan Kewarganegaraan) sebagai wahana pendidikan budaya dan karakter bangsa di Perguruan Tinggi. Sampel penelitiannya adalah tiga universitas besar sebagai sampel bertujuan, yaitu: UB (Universitas Brawijaya), UM (Universitas Negeri Malang), dan UMM (Universitas Muhammadiyah Malang) di Jawa Timur, Indonesia. Pengumpulan data dilakukan dengan menggunakan observasi langsung, DKT (Diskusi Kelompok Terbatas), wawancara mendalam, serta partisipasi terlibat langsung. Hasil dan analisis data menunjukkan bahwa: (1) Pengetahuan, sikap, dan perilaku guru, siswa, dan ketua program studi dalam mengajar PKn di institusi mereka sekarang cenderung menunjukkan beragam fenomena; (2) Ada beberapa alasan penting, kebutuhan yang mendasari upaya inovasi dan analisis teoritis belajar tentang etnopedagogi PKn sebagai wahana pendidikan budaya dan karakter bangsa di perguruan tinggi; dan (3) Formulasi rancangan analisis teoritis tentang etnopedagogi PKn sebagai wahana pendidikan budaya dan karakter bangsa yang diinginkan oleh para pemangku kepentingan sesuai dengan semangat demokratisasi, melalui: Orientasi Model (alasan dan pengembangan model) serta Model Komponen (belajar sintaks).KATA KUNCI: Etnopedagogi, pendidikan kewarganegaraan, pendidikan budaya, karakter bangsa, guru, mahasiswa, ketua program studi, dan lembaga perguruan tinggi. ABSTRACT: “Theoretical Analysis on the Ethnopedagogy of Citizenship Education as a Vehicle of Cultural Education and Nation Character in Higher Education Institution”. The purpose of the research is to formulate the concepts and theories on ethnopedagogy of citizenship education as a vehicle of cultural education and nation character in the college. The research sample is purposively sampling at three major universities, namely: UB (Brawijaya University), UM (State University of Malang), and UMM (Muhammadiyah University of Malang) in East Java, Indonesia. Data collection was done by using direct observation, FGD (Focus Group Discussions), in-depth interviews, as well as participation involved. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Education is a main factor for shaping of the strong nation, self-sufficient, independent, and dignified. By making education a major component, the strength of a nation, namely the Human Resources (HR), will be on top of other components. Meanwhile, the teacher is an educator and producer who scored the strength of human resources through the school institutions, both formal and non-formal, ranging from early childhood education to higher education levels, as well as spearhead for educational success. Teacher professional certification program in Indonesia, which gives the teachers’ financial increased impact, should in line with the quality and quantity of teacher performance productivity. Therefore, the model of IPED (Integrated Performance Educators Development) becomes an alternative model to measure the level of success of professional teachers in Indonesia. Results of this model is to find the IPPKG (“Indeks Prestasi Produktivitas Kinerja Guru” or Achievement Index of Teacher Performance Productivity), in which if the grade is above 0.7, then the teacher is said to be worth as a professional teacher. Conversely, if the grade of IPPKG is below 0.7, then the teacher is said to be less viable as a professional teacher; and, therefore, should improve the quality and quantity of productivity performance in order to be productive and professional teachers.KEY WORD: Model of IPED, achievement index of teacher performance productivity, teacher certification program, work productivity, professional teachers, and the feasibility of a professional teacher. RESUME: “Pengembangan Model IPED sebagai Upaya untuk Meningkatkan Produktivitas Kinerja bagi Guru-guru Tersertifikasi di Indonesia”. Pendidikan merupakan faktor utama untuk membentuk bangsa yang kuat, berdikari, mandiri, dan bermartabat. Dengan menjadikan pendidikan sebagai komponen utama, maka kekuatan suatu bangsa, yaitu Sumber Daya Manusia (SDM), akan berada di atas komponen lainnya. Sementara itu, guru merupakan pendidik dan produsen yang mencetak kekuatan SDM melalui lembaga sekolah, baik formal maupun non-formal, mulai dari tingkat pendidikan usia dini sampai tingkat pendidikan tinggi, serta menjadi ujung tombak bagi keberhasilan pendidikan. Program sertifikasi profesional guru di Indonesia, yang memberikan dampak peningkatan finansial guru, seharusnya sejalan dengan kualitas dan kuantitas produktivitas kinerja guru. Karena itu, model IPED (“Integrated Performance Educators Development” atau Pengembangan Pendidik Berkinerja Terintegrasi) menjadi sebuah model alternatif untuk mengukur tingkat keberhasilan guru yang profesional di Indonesia. Hasil dari model ini adalah untuk mencari IPPKG (Indeks Prestasi Produktivitas Kinerja Guru), yang mana jika nilainya di atas 0.7, maka guru tersebut dikatakan layak sebagai guru profesional. Abstract

ABSTRAK: Sistem pendidikan merupakan asas penting bagi membangunkan masyarakat dan negara ke arah yang lebih baik. Malaysia merupakan negara yang mempunyai masyarakat majmuk di mana setiap dasar yang dilaksanakan perlu selari dengan keperluan masyarakat. Dasar pendidikan yang dilaksanakan bukan sahaja bertujuan untuk memberi pelajaran di sekolah semata-mata tetapi sebagai alat untuk merealisasikan perpaduan bangsa. Melalui sistem persekolahan, masyarakat dibentuk dengan memberi pelajaran kepada semua rakyat Malaysia tanpa mengira bangsa, agama, dan warna kulit. Bagaimanapun, setelah 53 tahun mengecapi kemerdekaan, masyarakat Malaysia yang berbilang bangsa masih lagi tidak menunjukkan hubungan perpaduan yang kukuh. Sehingga kini, masyarakat Malaysia masih terpisah melalui sistem persekolahan, iaitu sekolah kebangsaan, sekolah jenis kebangsaan Cina, dan sekolah jenis kebangsaan Tamil. Abstract

ABSTRACT: ICT (Information and Communication Technology) has potential to make educational resources accessible entirely. Therefore, knowledge is not limited to a geographical area and instrumental in offering options for information sharing, archiving, and retrieving. Thus, governments have to prioritize ICT education by supporting schools with materials for teaching and learning. The study aimed to document resources and materials available for teaching and learning of ICT in Atwima Nwabiagya District in Ghana. The study adopted case study design and a mixed method of data collection. In all, a total of 512 were recruited to be part of the study. The study found that the government of Ghana has failed to support schools with the needed resources for teaching and learning of ICT. Schools lack ICT labs, internet connection, and other resources needed to make teaching a success. The current resources available in schools will not make it possible for the country to achieve its objective with making ICT education possible for all children in basic schools in Ghana. Therefore, it is high time the government put in much resource in effort to make this policy a reality.  KEY WORD: Information and Communication Technology; Education; Students and Teachers; Resources Support; Implementation of Policy. RESUME: “Upaya Pengimplementasian Kebijakan TIK (Teknologi Informasi dan Komunikasi) di Sekolah-sekolah Dasar di Ghana: Sebuah Penilaian terhadap Ketersediaan Fasilitas dan Sumber Daya untuk Keberhasilan Pendidikan TIK di Kabupaten Atwima Nwabiagya di Daerah Ashanti”. TIK memiliki potensi untuk membuat sumber daya pendidikan dapat diakses sepenuhnya. Karena itu, pengetahuan tidak terbatas pada wilayah geografis dan secara instrumental menawarkan pilihan untuk berbagi, mengarsipkan, dan mengunduh informasi. Jadi, pemerintah harus memprioritaskan pendidikan TIK dengan mendukung sekolah menyediakan bahan-bahan untuk mengajar dan belajar. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mendokumentasikan sumber daya dan bahan yang tersedia untuk mengajar dan belajar TIK di Kabupaten Atwima Nwabiagya di Ghana. Studi ini mengadopsi desain studi kasus dan metode campuran dalam pengumpulan data. Semuanya, sebanyak 512 orang direkrut untuk menjadi bagian dari penelitian ini. Studi menunjukan bahwa pemerintah Ghana gagal dalam mendukung sekolah dengan sumber daya yang dibutuhkan untuk mengajar dan belajar TIK. Sekolah kekurangan laboratorium TIK, koneksi internet, dan sumber daya lainnya yang dibutuhkan untuk membuat pengajaran sukses. Ketersediaan sumber daya saat ini di sekolah tidak memungkinkan bagi negara mencapai tujuannya untuk menjadikan pendidikan TIK memungkinkan bagi semua anak di sekolah-sekolah dasar di Ghana. Abstract

IKHTISAR: Kajian ini telah meninjau teori-teori kejayaan kerjaya seperti Teori Sosial Kognitif Kerjaya (TSKK), Model Lanjutan TSKK, Model Perilaku Proaktif, dan Model Bersepadu Kejayaan Kerjaya. Berdasarkan teori-teori tersebut, kajian literatur ini telah meramalkan beberapa faktor individu (seperti modal insan, personaliti individu, dan modal sosial) serta faktor kontekstual (seperti sokongan organisasi dan kesesuaian individu-persekitaran) dalam mempengaruhi kejayaan kerjaya ahli akademik. Di samping itu, kajian ini juga menerangkan tentang pengaruh perilaku proaktif seseorang individu dalam mencetuskan penglibatan mereka dalam aktiviti-aktiviti pengurusan strategi melancarkan kejayaan kerjaya. Kajian ini mempercayai bahawa kesemua teori dan model yang dikemukakan dapat menerangkan fenomena kejayaan kerjaya individu ahli akademik. Model-model tersebut telah dibangunkan serta boleh diaplikasikan pada pelbagai golongan, sama ada individu pelajar atau pekerja. Ini membuktikan bahawa model-model tersebut juga turut sesuai digunakan dalam kalangan ahli akademik di Universiti Penyelidikan di Malaysia.KATA KUNCI: Kerjaya, kejayaan kerjaya, ahli akademik, teori bersepadu, dan universiti penyelidikan di Malaysia. ABSTRACT: This study has reviewed the theories of career success such as Social Cognitive Career Theory (SCCT), Advanced Model of SCCT, Model of Proactice Behavior, and  Integrated Model of Career Success. Based on the theories, this study has predicted several individual factors (such as human capital, individual personality, and social capital) and contextual factors (such as organisational support and individual-environment fit) in influencing the academic career success. In addition, this study describes the influence of individual proactive behavior in creating their involvement in management activities and strategies to launch successful careers. This study argued that the theories and models presented can explain the phenomenon of academic career success. These models have been developed and can be applied to various groups of either individual students or employees. Abstract

ABSTRACT: There are many factors that influence academic performance of students. Some of these are related to personological, sociological, and psychological factors. In recent years, academic achievement and performance have been linked to several psychological factors. Two of these psychological factors, that may have direct impact or influence to academic performance, are curiosity and epistemological beliefs. In this study, the organization and legibility of the subjects’ writing before and after the use of Brain Gym activities were described. The pre-experimental design, specifically the One Group Pre-test – Post-test, was utilized to examine the grade 1 pupils’ writing performance in the areas of length of output. The respondents were composed of 4 pupils, who have a variety of writing concerns, ranging from getting started, organization, attention to details, and producing sufficient output or length of writing. It was concluded that Brain Gym, a movement-based learning exercise, was an effective activity for enhancing grade 1 pupils’ writing concerns, specifically in terms of neatness, legibility, writing on and following blue-red-blue lines as well as correct spacing between letters and words. Pupils under the Brain Gym conditions tended to write more words. Brain Gym exercises brought excitement, cheerfulness, and relaxed mood among pupils. It is recommended that time be allotted for the use of Brain Gym exercises, due to it can be utilized as unfreezing activity for enhancement of writing performance among pupils.KEY WORD: Brain Gym; Writing Performance; Legibility; Length of Output; Organization; Writing Concerns. RESUME: “Efektivitas Kegiatan Senam Otak dalam Meningkatkan Kinerja Menulis Siswa Kelas I”. Ada banyak faktor yang mempengaruhi prestasi akademik siswa. Beberapa di antaranya berkaitan dengan faktor personologis, sosiologis, dan psikologis. Dalam beberapa tahun terakhir, prestasi dan kinerja akademik telah dikaitkan dengan beberapa faktor psikologis. Dua faktor psikologis ini, yang mungkin berdampak langsung atau berpengaruh pada kinerja akademis, adalah keingintahuan dan kepercayaan epistemologis. Dalam penelitian ini, organisasi dan keterbacaan tulisan subjek sebelum dan sesudah penggunaan kegiatan Senam Otak dijelaskan. Desain pra-eksperimental, khususnya Pre-test – Post-tes Satu Grup, digunakan untuk menguji kinerja tulis murid kelas 1 di bidang panjang dan luaran. Responden terdiri dari 4 siswa, yang memiliki berbagai masalah menulis, mulai dari persiapan, pengorganisasian, perhatian terhadap perincian, dan menghasilkan luaran atau lama penulisan yang cukup. Disimpulkan bahwa Senam Otak, sebuah gerakan berbasis pembelajaran, adalah kegiatan yang efektif untuk meningkatkan perhatian siswa kelas 1, khususnya dalam hal kerapian, keterbacaan, penulisan dan garis biru-merah-biru berurutan, dan jarak antara huruf dan kata yang benar. Siswa di bawah kondisi Senam Otak cenderung untuk menulis lebih banyak kata. Latihan Senam Otak membawa kegembiraan, keceriaan, dan suasana santai di kalangan siswa. Dianjurkan agar waktu diberikan untuk penggunaan latihan Senam Otak ini, sebab ianya dapat dimanfaatkan sebagai aktivitas tanpa henti untuk meningkatkan kinerja menulis di kalangan siswa.KATA KUNCI: Senam Otak; Kinerja Menulis; Keterbacaan; Panjang Luaran; Organisasi; Perihal Menulis.    About the Authors: Jose M. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Hizbullah, its meaning is the army of Allah (God), established at the time of the Japanese occupation in Indonesia (1942-1945), and has been restructured after the proclamation of independence along with the spirit of revolution in Indonesia (1945-1950). Hizbullah was founded because the Muslims young people feel to have an obligation in assisting the nation-state and religious struggle to be free from the colonialism in Indonesia. This article attempts to explain the position and role of Hizbullah organization, which was established after the proclamation of Indonesian independence by the creativity of local Muslims young people. Increased establishment of semi-military organizations, including the Hizbullah organization in Bandung, is the reaction of the arrival of the Allied Forces in Indonesia. British Allied Forces, which accompanied by the Dutch NICA (Netherland-Indies Civil Administration), their arrival was greeted by Indonesian people with a sense of suspicion and awareness of independence. One of the incidents between British Allied Forces and Dutch NICA, after arriving in Bandung, against the people of Indonesia that involves the TKR (Indonesian Peoples Security Army) and Hizbullah, is the Fokkerweg bettle in Bandung city. This battle lasted for 3 days and 3 nights. The battle was fierce, which is characterized by a combination between frontal attacks and diplomacy. This suggests that the position and the role of Hizbullah, in the context of Indonesias independence struggle, is very important and has contributed greatly to the formation of TKR, which later became the TNI (Indonesian National Army).KEY WORD: Hizbullah, revolution, Bandung city, the role and function, freedom and independence, organization and struggle, and Indonesian army. RESUME: “Peranan Hizbullah pada Masa Revolusi Indonesia di Bandung, 1945-1946”. Hizbullah , artinya tentara Allah, didirikan pada saat pendudukan Jepang di Indonesia (1942-1945) dan telah direstrukturisasi setelah proklamasi kemerdekaan bersama dengan semangat revolusi di Indonesia (1945-1950). Hizbullah didirikan karena orang-orang muda Islam merasa memiliki kewajiban untuk membantu perjuangan negara-bangsa dan agama agar bebas dari penjajahan di Indonesia. Artikel ini mencoba untuk menjelaskan posisi dan peran organisasi Hizbullah, yang didirikan setelah proklamasi kemerdekaan Indonesia oleh kreativitas anak-anak muda Muslim setempat. Meningkatnya pendirian organisasi semi-kemiliteran, termasuk organisasi Hizbullah di Bandung, merupakan reaksi dari kedatangan Tentara Sekutu di Indonesia. Tentara Sekutu Inggris, yang diboncengi oleh NICA (Pemerintahan Sipil Hinda-Belanda) Belanda, kedatangan mereka disambut oleh rakyat Indonesia dengan perasaan curiga dan kesadaran akan kemerdekaan. Salah satu insiden antara Tentara Sekutu Inggris dan NICA Belanda, setelah tiba di Bandung, melawan rakyat Indonesia yang melibatkan TKR (Tentara Keamanan Rakyat) dan Hizbullah adalah pertempuran Fokkerweg di Kota Bandung. Pertempuran ini berlangsung selama 3 hari dan 3 malam. Pertempuran berlangsung sengit, yang ditandai oleh kombinasi antara serangan frontal dan diplomasi. Abstract

ABSTRACT: The research is aimed at studying heterogeneity in Torajan ritual speech through the process of entextualization. The research shows that in the event of speaking by a single speaker, there occurs the process of the decontextualized text segments from other genres of prose narrative, such as historical narratives, myths, legends, and poetic argumentation, which is then recontextualized in the present performance. The method used is participant observation. The field notes are analyzed from domain, taxonomic, componential, and thematic analysis. The techniques used are recording, videotaping, and field notes. The research has two findings: ethnographic and academic. Ethnographically, it is found that the Torajan ritual speech spoken by a single speaker, the “tomina”, is actually heterogeneous. Theoretically, it shows that homogeneity in language is tenable only if evaluation is based on grammar. However, this research is able to show the heterogeneity in Torajan ritual speech. The sources of the texts are “retteng”, poetic argumentation, and the myth of “Tulang Didi”. The values of the three forms of life, such as human beings, animals, and plants, are found. From this appear, the harmonious relations between human and God, human and human, human and animals, and human and plants. These values may contribute to the nation’s character building.KEY WORD: Heterogeneity, metalinguistic awareness, entextualization, ritual speech, nation’s character building, and Toraja people. RESUME: “Heterogenitas dalam Tuturan Ritual Toraja: Kesadaran Metabahasa dan Pembangunan Karakter Bangsa”. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mempelajari heterogenitas dalam tuturan ritual di Toraja lewat proses entekstualisasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa dalam peristiwa tutur yang dilakukan oleh seorang penutur terjadi proses dekontekstualisasi segmen teks dari jenis-jenis narasi prosa, seperti narasi historis, mitos, legenda, dan argumentasi puitik yang direkontekstualisasikan ke dalam performansi sekarang. Metode yang dipakai adalah observasi partisipan. Hasil catatan lapangan dianalisis dari sudut domain, taksonomik, komponensial, dan tematis. Teknik penelitian yang dipakai adalah rekaman, video, dan catatan lapangan. Ada dua hasil penelitian: etnografi dan akademik. Secara etnografis, tuturan ritual Toraja yang dituturkan oleh satu orang, “tomina”, sebenarnya heterogen. Secara teoretis, diketengahkan bahwa homogenitas dalam bahasa hanya bisa dipertahankan kalau dilihat dari sudut tata bahasa. Namun, penelitian memperlihatkan heterogenitas dalam tuturan ritual Toraja. Sumber-sumber teks adalah “retteng”, argumen puitik, dan ceritera Tulang Didi. Ditemukan nilai-nilai tiga pucuk kehidupan, seperti manusia, hewan, dan tanaman. Nilai-nilai ini memperlihatkan relasi antara manusia dengan Yang Kuasa, manusia dan manusia, manusia dan hewan, serta manusia dengan tanaman. Abstract

ABSTRAK: Artikel ini bertujuan menganalisis tentang kedudukan Islam pada zaman penguasaan Crown Colony (1841-1941) di Sarawak. Ia juga bermatlamat untuk membincangkan mengenai gerakan Missionari dan kesannya terhadap sistem pendidikan di negeri itu. Hasil penulisan mendapati bahawa sejak perlantikan James Brooke sebagai Gabenor, beliau telah berjaya meluaskan pengaruh politiknya dengan memecahkan kesatuan yang wujud di antara masyarakat Melayu dan penduduk peribumi. Zaman Crown Colony pula turut menyaksikan penularan elemen-elemen Barat yang negatif ke dalam kehidupan muda-mudi Muslim. Justeru itu, akhbar “Fajar Sarawak” dan Persatuan Melayu Sarawak telah berperanan sebagai “pejuang” untuk mengembalikan mereka kepada syiar Islam yang murni. Dalam masa yang sama, agama Kristian juga semakin berkembang lantaran dorongan dan pembiayaan yang diberikan oleh pihak pemerintah. Keadaan ini telah mendorong tokoh-tokoh ulama tempatan untuk menubuhkan sekolah-sekolah agama yang lebih menitikberatkan pengajian agama Islam bagi menyekat fahaman-fahaman yang bercanggah dengan agama Islam.
