The SOSIOHUMANIKA journal has been organized and published by Minda Masagi Press, a publishing house owned by ASPENSI (the Association of Indonesian Scholars of History Education) in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. The SOSIOHUMANIKA journal is published every May and November. The SOSIOHUMANIKA journal is devoted, but not limited to, Social Sciences education, Humanities education, and any new development and advancement in the field of Humanities and Social Sciences education. Abstract

ABSTRACT: “Pesantren”, or Islamic boarding school, is a part of Islamic education institution growing in Indonesian culture and tradition. Arabic was chosen, because it is the premier language of Islamic religion and be started to expand Muslims capacity through training. This phenomenon is interesting to explore since “pesantren” entertain to charter foreign language as compulsory subject to master. This paper explores how “pesantren” conduct its Arabic learning and construct students’ skill in acquiring the language. This research was conducted in West Papua Province. All the regency and city were observed, excluded Wondama Regency, because the institutions there were not implemented Gontor Model as a source to teach Arabic. In-depth interview and non-participant observation were employed in collecting data. Research findings show that in implementing language learning, first step to do was curriculum enhancement and tried to adapt some model in delivering the subject. Teachers as the facilitator command the process of learning and tried the best effort to maintain practice in the school and “pesantren” neighborhood. The Foundation Management Board provided books and learning media to expand students’ language skills. The main media is environment, its existence strengthen communication exercise, and the same time to allocate students’ drill in understanding language context. Finally, the researchers recommend further research to other foreign languages. KEY WORD: Islamic Boarding School; Language Learning; Arabic; Foreign Language; Modernity. RESUME: “Dari Gontor ke Sorong: Praktek Muslim Minoritas dalam Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran Bahasa Arab”. Pesantren merupakan bagian dari institusi pendidikan yang tumbuh dalam tradisi dan budaya Indonesia. Bahasa Arab dipilih, karena merupakan bahasa utama agama Islam dan dimulai dari upaya untuk mengembangkan kapasitas Muslim melalui pendidikan. Fenomena ini menarik untuk dieksplorasi dimana pesantren menjadikan bahasa asing sebagai pelajaran yang harus dikuasai. Artikel ini mengkaji bagaimana pesantren menjalankan pembelajaran bahasa Arab dan mengkonstruksi keterampilan santri dalam menguasai bahasa yang diajarkan. Penelitian dilaksanakan di Provinsi Papua Barat. Semua kota dan kabupaten diamati, kecuali Kabupaten Wondama, karena lembaga pendidikan di sana tidak mengadopsi Model Gontor sebagai sistem pengajaran bahasa Arab. Wawancara mendalam dan pengamatan tak berpartisipasi digunakan dalam mengumpulkan data. Hasil penelitian menunjukan bahwa ada beberapa tahapan dalam penerapan pembelajaran bahasa, yang dimulai dari pengayaan kurikulum dan berupaya untuk mengadaptasi beberapa model yang sudah dilaksanakan dalam mengajarkan mata pelajaran. Guru merupakan fasilitator yang menjadi pemandu dalam pelaksanaan pembelajaran dan berusaha dengan cara terbaik untuk mempertahankan pelaksanaan praktek di sekolah dan lingkungan pesantren. Pengurus Yayasan menyediakan buku dan media pembelajaran untuk mendorong penguasaan keterampilan berbahasa santri. Media utama adalah lingkungan, keberadaannya memperkuat latihan berkomunikasi, dan pada saat yang sama menyediakan kesempatan bagi siswa untuk berlatih dalam memahami konteks berbahasa. Akhirnya, peneliti merekomendasikan penelitian lanjutan mengenai bahasa asing lainnya. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Role play is the main important technique in CLT (Communicative Language Teaching), as it gives students a lot of prospects to practice communicating of various social contexts and in different social roles. To set sight on role play by means to look at EFL (English as a Foreign Language) teacher’s experience and students’ perspectives of role play technique enactment in teaching speaking by using qualitative design. This study provided framework for the instrument of observation sheet adapted from J. Brown (2001), field notes adapted from C. Marshall & G.B. Rossman (2006), and interview guide adapted also questionnaire from P. Islami & T. Islami (2013). The methodology designated the combination of four mountainsides to expose in-depth the urgency of role play in which applied since 1936. The result of interview exposed that the English teacher claimed that role play is a technique applied to promote speaking and it is corroborated by the result of field note. In addition, speaking of students’ perspective depicted that the students indeed agreed themselves of the usefulness of role play to enhance their speaking skill and motivation. Thus, students asserted that the learning is more fun and enjoyable through role play. The researchers recommended to have a deep look at reasoning students’ point of view in terms of role play technique implementation in non-English class. And see ascertains how beneficial, it is in terms of role play in a large classroom.KEY WORD: Perspective; English as a Foreign Language; Setting Sight; Role Playing; Communication Skill. RESUME: “Menata Pengamatan pada Bermain Peran: Untuk Mengakomodasi atau Mengabaikan?”. Bermain peran adalah teknik penting dan utama dalam CLT (Pembelajaran Bahasa Secara Komunikatif), karena memberi siswa banyak prospek untuk berlatih mengkomunikasikan berbagai konteks sosial dan peran sosial yang berbeda. Mengacu pada permainan peran dengan cara melihat pengalaman guru EFL (Bahasa Inggris sebagai Bahasa Asing) dan perspektif siswa tentang teknik permainan peran dalam pengajaran berbicara dengan menggunakan desain kualitatif. Studi ini memberikan kerangka kerja untuk instrumen lembar observasi yang diadaptasi dari J. Brown (2001), catatan lapangan yang diadaptasi dari C. Marshall & G.B. Rossman (2006), dan panduan wawancara yang juga mengadaptasi kuesioner dari P. Islami & T. Islami (2013). Metodologi tersebut menetapkan kombinasi empat hal penting untuk mengungkapkan secara mendalam urgensi permainan peran yang diterapkan sejak 1936. Hasil wawancara mengungkapkan mengenai guru bahasa Inggris yang mengklaim bahwa bermain peran adalah teknik yang diterapkan untuk mempromosikan pembelajaran dan ini diperkuat oleh hasil catatan lapangan. Selain itu, berbicara tentang perspektif siswa menggambarkan bahwa para siswa benar-benar menyetujui kegunaan bermain peran untuk meningkatkan kemampuan berbicara dan motivasi mereka. Dengan demikian, siswa menegaskan bahwa pembelajaran lebih menyenangkan dan menggembirakan melalui bermain peran. Para peneliti merekomendasikan untuk melihat secara mendalam penalaran tentang sudut pandang siswa dalam hal penerapan teknik bermain peran di kelas non-Inggris. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Conservation, as an attempt of sustainable maintenance and preservation of the environment, requires community participation. This research tries to analysis of: (1) the characteristics of Sagara Anakan watershed and territory; (2) the conducts of environmental conservation and community participation; and (3) the relevant of conservation subject for teaching and learning in Senior High School. The method employed was survey with analysis on forms of conservation and farmers’ participation. The results show that Sagara Anakan region serves for various activities, such as fishery, tourism, sport, and transportation. Conservation in the form of reforestation has not been conducted, because it is thought to cause low production of the crops. The subject of conservation is less relevant to the teaching and learning materials on environmental conservation. Fortunately, various forms of conservation have been done by the community. The forms of conservation are different for each part of the watershed, depending on the physical conditions and the possibility for land cultivation. On the other hand, to develop the teaching and learning materials, the local environment should be the resources for student learning. By this way, students will be encouraged to engage in problem-solving pertaining to the environmental conservation. KEY WORD: Forms of conservation, community participation, environmental damage, teaching and learning, Sagara Anakan region, and environmental education. RESUME: Artikel ini berjudul “Pendidikan Lingkungan Hidup dan Partisipasi Masyarakat: Pentingnya Pelajaran Konservasi dalam Pengajaran dan Pembelajaran untuk Upaya Konservasi Lingkungan di Daerah Sagara Anakan”. Konservasi, sebagai upaya pemeliharaan dan pelestarian lingkungan yang berkelanjutan, memerlukan partisipasi masyarakat. Penelitian ini mencoba menganalisis: (1) Karakteristik daerah aliran sungai dan wilayah Sagara Anakan; (2) perilaku konservasi lingkungan dan partisipasi masyarakat; serta (3) Relevansi subjek konservasi untuk pengajaran dan pembelajaran di Sekolah Menengah Aatas. Metode yang digunakan adalah survei dengan analisis bentuk konservasi dan partisipasi petani. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa daerah Sagara Anakan berfungsi untuk berbagai kegiatan, seperti perikanan, pariwisata, olah raga, dan transportasi. Konservasi dalam bentuk reboisasi belum dilakukan, karena diduga menyebabkan rendahnya produksi tanaman. Subjek konservasi kurang relevan dengan pengajaran dan materi pembelajaran tentang konservasi lingkungan. Untungnya, berbagai bentuk konservasi telah dilakukan oleh masyarakat. Bentuk-bentuk konservasi yang berbeda untuk setiap bagian dari daerah aliran sungai, tergantung pada kondisi fisik dan kemungkinan untuk pengolahan tanah. Di sisi lain, untuk mengembangkan pengajaran dan pembelajaran, materi muatan lokal harus menjadi sumber pembelajaran bagi siswa. Abstract

ABSTRACT: The system of British Resident government was introduced in Brunei on early twenteeth century. By implementing this system, Brunei is one of nation in Southeast Asian countries which be ruled by British indirectly. Similar with other British ruled regions in Southeast Asia, especially to Malay peninsula’s case, the Sultanate of Brunei has also to receive the advises on social, economic and political matters from British Resident. Exceptly is concerning on the Islamic religion matters. As its consequences, the Brunei faced the changes not only in social, political and economic field but also in management of government and in regulation of Land Code. The later case indicates that regulating on land in Brunei traditionally was also changed by modern Land Code respectively in early twentieth century. However, this paperwork tries to explain how the signing of 1905/1906 Supplementary Agreement resulted in the formulation of Land Code 1907. The signing of this agreement shows that the British were concerned with Brunei’s survival which was very much affected by the land issues in Brunei. With the Land Code 1907, the boundaries of the Sultanate were made clear and subsequently played its roles in improving and sustaining Brunei’s economy. In one way or another, the Land Code was responsible for increasing in revenue through income from rubber plantation, and oil and gas industry. Thus, it acts as a catalyst for the development in Brunei and Brunei was able to transform from an economically unstable country to a country which is blessed with prosperity. All of these achievements are achieved due to the endless effort of the government in implementing the Land Code in Brunei. Abstract

ABSTRAK: Tradisi tentang menghormati padi, sebagai bagian dari tradisi tentang kearifan lokal, tidaklah berdiri sendiri, melainkan ianya diungkapkan dalam perilaku masyarakat Sunda yang diturunkan dari masa ke masa. Hal itu nampak dengan adanya ritual, mantra untuk siklus penanaman padi, dan sejumlah keharusan serta tabu. Semuanya itu merupakan mata rantai yang saling berkaitan dan diusung oleh budaya masyarakat yang dilapisi oleh agama dan kepercayaan nenek-moyang. Tulisan ini akan mengkaji tentang tradisi menghormati padi pada masyarakat Sunda, khususnya yang ada di Jawa Barat dan Banten, sebagaimana nampak dalam ”Wawacan Sulanjana”. Penghormatan terhadap padi itu – yang dilambangkan sebagai Dewi Sri – dilakukan sedemikian rupa mulai dari proses menanam, memelihara, memanen, dan menyimpan hingga menggunakan padi. Mengenai kearifan lokal pada masyarakat Sunda – utamanya dalam menghormati padi, beras dan nasi – yang fenomenanya masih tampak tidak hanya pada masa dulu tetapi juga pada masa kini, seyogyanyalah dipelihara dan dijaga. Walaupun perkembangan industri dan teknologi sangat pesat, khususnya dalam bidang pertanian dan proses pengerjaan dari padi ke beras dan cara memasaknya, namun padi sebagai makanan pokok tetap tidak tergantikan. Abstract

RESUME: Penelitian ini adalah untuk mengetahui pelaksanaan pendidikan karakter di TK (Taman Kanak-kanak). Desain penelitian adalah pendekatan kualitatif studi kasus. Data dikumpulkan dengan wawancara, observasi, dan dokumentasi. Hasil penelitian: cara dimana guru adalah memberikan pembiasaan dan teladan; metode pembelajaran yang digunakan di TK adalah metode tanya-jawab, percakapan, cerita, dan sosio-drama; kesulitan yang dihadapi oleh guru karena lingkungan anak berbeda, sehingga solusinya dilakukan dengan memahami karakteristik peserta didik; dan cara yang paling efektif untuk menanamkan pendidikan karakter adalah melalui perilaku pembiasaan yang baik dalam tindakan sehari-hari, serta contoh-contoh yang baik dari pendidik. Berdasarkan hasil penelitian, disajikan saran-saran berikut: bekerjasama dengan orang tua melalui komunikasi dengan orang tua serta melalui kunjungan-rumah; menanamkan pendidikan karakter kepada siswa dengan membiasakan salam kepada anak, mencium tangan guru pada saat sebelum dan sesudah kegiatan, berbagi dan membantu, kebiasaan mencuci tangan, dan berdoa sebelum dan sesudah makan; mengikuti upacara bendera setiap hari Senin dan hari-hari Hari Nasional di Indonesia; dan dibiasakan mengucapkan terima kasih ketika mendapatkan sesuatu dan selalu bersedia untuk memberi dan meminta maaf saat melakukan kesalahan.KATA KUNCI: Implementasi, pendidikan karakter, TK, perilaku pembiasaan, tindakan sehari-hari, contoh yang baik dari pendidik, dan kolaborasi dengan orang tua. ABSTRACT: “Implementation of Character Education in Kindergarten: A Case Study in Kindergarten of Kemala Bhayangkari 97 Gasum, Pusdik Porong, East Java, Indonesia”. The research is to find out implementation of character education in kindergarten. The design of this study is a qualitative case study approach. Data were collected by interview, observation, and documentation. Research results: the way in which the teacher is to habituation and exemplary; learning methods used in kindergarten are the question-and-answer method, a conversation, storytelling, and socio-drama; the difficulties faced by teachers because of the childs environment is different, so that the solution is done by understanding the characteristics of learners; and the most effective way to instill character education is through habituation behavior both in everyday actions, as well as examples of good examples of educators. Abstract

ABSTRACT: This paper is of utmost significance as it attempts to discuss the concept of belief in religions with special reference to Islam. Among the leading factors that have influence on ones belief are ethnic, race, lineage, nationality, emotion, and knowledge. In addition, this paper discusses the impact of belief on human psychology and behaviour. Faith and belief based on religion will have great influence on human psychology and behaviour, and thus shaping one’s personality. There are differences between the concept of belief based on religion and that of ideology. In this respect, Al-Shahrastani (469-548 AH / 1076-1153 AD), in his magnum opus of Kitab al-Milal wa al-Nihal, distinguishes religious beliefs from other beliefs which are based on ideology and human philosophical thought. On another note, psychological values are the key aspect of one’s religious belief. The psychological impacts on ones belief among others are tranquility, balanced soul, strong personality, and spiritual strength. In short, the psychological impacts have the ability to shape the behaviour of one who believes in religion. Understanding this concept is vital, especially in the society with multi-racial and multi-belief.  Key words: Concept of faith, psychological aspect, human behaviour, religion and ideology, and strong personality and spiritual strength.About the Author: Assoc. Abstract

SOSIOHUMANIKA: Jurnal Pendidikan Sains Sosial dan Kemanusiaan. This journal, with print ISSN 1979-0112, was firstly published on May 20, 2008 in the context to commemorate One Millenium of National Awakening Day in Indonesian. The SOSIOHUMANIKA journal is published twice a year i.e. every May and November. For period 2013 to 2018, the SOSIOHUMANIKA journal has been accredited by Ditjendikti Kemdikbud RI (Directorate-General of Higher Education, Ministry of Education and Culture of the Republic of Indonesia). Abstract

RESUME: Dari kaca mata sejarah, hubungan antara masyarakat Indonesia dan Malaysia telah berlangsung lama dan menyebabkan adanya beberapa kesamaan budaya antara Indonesia dan Malaysia. Banyaknya kesamaan budaya Malaysia dengan Indonesia telah memunculkan suatu istilah yang sering diungkapkan oleh Malaysia terhadap Indonesia sebagai “saudara serumpun”. Dalam masalah klaim budaya, masyarakat Indonesia harus menyadari bahwa bangsa Indonesia beserta budayanya telah menyebar luas ke berbagai wilayah sejak lama. Sehingga kebudayaan kita juga terdapat dan diakui sebagai kebudayaan oleh suatu kelompok masyarakat di negara lain. Pada pihak lain, Malaysia harus jujur pada sejarah bahwa beberapa kebudayaannya mempunyai akar Indonesia. Meskipun telah merasa bahwa beberapa kebudayaan yang sama dengan Indonesia sebagai kebudayaan asli Malaysia. Untuk menunjukkan itikad baik dan penghormatan kepada saudara serumpun, hendaknya dalam berbagai kesempatan akar budaya itu sebaiknya diungkapkan oleh Malaysia, termasuk untuk promosi pariwisata. Akhirnya, media massa di Indonesia dan di Malaysia masih belum berfungsi sebagai media sosialisasi bagi warisan budaya di kedua belah pihak. Hal ini dikarenakan liputan-liputan mengenai kebudayaan masih sangat kurang bila dibandingkan dengan liputan-liputan politik. Liputan warisan budaya pun muncul menjadi masalah politik.KATA KUNCI: Warisan budaya, Indonesia dan Malaysia, saudara serumpun, klaim budaya, ketegangan politik, dan peran media massa. ABSTRACT: This paper entitled “Tracing the Root of Conflict on the Cultural Herirage between Indonesia and Malaysia”. From the historical perspectives, the relationship between Indonesia and Malaysia had been long journey and caused some cultural similarities between Indonesia and Malaysia. A lot of similarities between Indonesia and Malaysia cultures had brought up a term that was frequently said by Malaysia to Indonesia as “cluster brother”. In a matter of cultural  claim, Indonesia people should aware that Indonesian and its culture had spread widely through various regions for a long time. Thus, our culture was existing in other communities in other country and acknowledged as a culture of other nation. In other side, Malaysia should be honest to the history that some of its culture were rooted to Indonesia culture. Although it felt that some of its cultures, that were similar with Indonesia’s, were its original Malaysia culture. To show the good will and respectto the cluster brother, Malaysia should convey the root of its culture, including its tourism promotion. Finally, mass media in Indonesia as well as in Malaysia had not functioned as socialization media of cultural heritages for both parties. It was due to less coverage of culture if it was compared with political coverage. Then, cultural heritage coverage appeared to be political affair. Abstract

ABSTRAK: Pendidikan multikultural merupakan istilah yang popular untuk menjelaskan pendidikan keberagaman. Penelitian ini berusaha menjelaskan berbagai praktek dan proses pembelajaran di pesantren yang diciptakan untuk mengurangi praduga dan diskriminasi. Selain itu program tersebut juga dijalankan untuk melakukan kesempatan yang sama dan keadilan sosial bagi semua siswa. Akhirnya, penelitian ini berusaha menjelaskan tentang kurikulum yang disusun diseputar konsep-konsep dasar bagi setiap suku dari beberapa kelompok yang berbeda. Pesantren yang berlokasi di Sulawesi Selatan dijadikan fokus penelitian, denga design penelitian yang bersifat kualitatif. Data dikumpulkan dari hasil wawancara dan observasi di lapangan. Penelitian ini menunjukan bahwa pemegang wewenang di pesantren bekerja keras untuk menyatukan visi dan berbagai praktek yang berhubungan dengan konsep multikulturalisme dimana para guru menggunakan contoh-contoh dan isi dari beragam budaya untuk menggambarkan prinsip-prinsip dan teori-teori utama dalam pelajaran dan ilmu mereka. Maka para guru dapat memahami pendidikan multikultural sebagai pendekatan isi dalam kasus pengajaran bahasa Arab. Adalah pesantren dengan budaya dan organisasinya yang mengembangkan persamaan kelas sosial, ras dan gender, sejalan dengan konsep pendidikan multikulturalisme.Kata-kata kunci: pendidikan multikultur, keadilan dan persamaan, serta peranan pesantren.  About the Authors: Ismail Suardi Wekke is a Student of International Program Fellowship of Ford Foundation in the Faculty of Education, National University of Malaysia (UKM). He earned his B.A.Hons. from IAIN (Institut Agama Islam Negeri) Aluddin in Makassar, South Sulawesi, Indonesia, in 1999; and the “Sarjana” degree from STAIN (Sekolah Tinggi Agama Islam Negeri) Malang, East Java, in 2002. He has conducted research on Arabic language education, gender problems and educational technology.
