This journal, with ISSN 2088-1290, was firstly published on June 1, 2011, in the context to commemorate the Birthday of Pancasila's Name in Indonesia. Since issue of June 2012 to December 2014, the ATIKAN journal was organized by the Lecturers of FKIP UNSUR (Faculty of Education and Teacher Training, Suryakancana University) in Cianjur; and, since issue of December 2014 to June 2015, by the Lecturers of FPOK UPI (Faculty of Sport and Health Education, Indonesia University of Education) in Bandung; and published by Minda Masagi Press as a publisher owned by ASPENSI (the Association of Indonesian Scholars of History Education) in Bandung, West Java, Indonesia. The articles published in ATIKAN journal are able to be written in English as well as in Indonesian and Malay languages. This journal is published twice a year i.e. every June and December. The ATIKAN journal is devoted, but not limited to, primary education, secondary education, higher education, teacher education, special education, adult education, non-formal education, and any new development and advancement in the field of education. The scope of our journal includes: (1) Language and literature education; (2) Social science education; (3) Sports and health education; (4) Economy and business education; (5) Math and natural science education; (6) Vocational and engineering education; and (7) Visual arts, dance, music, and design education.

Abstract

ABSTRACT: Character building is a way to build a nation by focusing on the psychological development, maturation, and ethics of individual citizens. John Locke is the first thinker which is explaining the ideas above and is determined the next thinkers on nation and character building. John Locke believes that what all people have at present originally come from their experiences. The purpose of this paper is to elaborate John Locke’s ideas on character building. His ideas seem to divide into three themes comprising the healthy body, the right mind and the healthy soul, and the formulation of character. First, John Locke believes that the strong thought is determined by the strong body. As a physician, John Locke suggests how to keep the children’s health: how to face the weather, how to choose the appropriate clothes, how to give the fit diet, how to have a good sleep, and how to prevent the disease. Second, after having the healthy body, John Locke tends to set the right mind and the healthy soul by parent at the time of infancy. What is the habit which is settled by parent, it would be child’s habit. Third, child’s character is formed based on parent’s example. They would be role models for their child. The child tends to imitate the parent’s activities.KEY WORD: John Locke, education process, character building, roles of teacher and parent, healthy body, rational creature, and good citizens.IKHTISAR: Artikel ini berjudul “John Locke tentang Pembangunan Karakter”. Pembangunan karakter adalah cara untuk membangun bangsa dengan berfokus pada perkembangan psikologis, kematangan, dan etika warga negara. John Locke adalah pemikir pertama yang menjelaskan ide di atas dan diperkuat oleh para pemikir berikutnya tentang pembangunan karakter dan bangsa. John Locke percaya bahwa apa yang semua orang punya saat ini awalnya berasal dari pengalaman mereka. Tujuan makalah ini adalah untuk menguraikan gagasan John Locke tentang pembentukan karakter. Ide-ide John Locke tampaknya dapat dibagi menjadi tiga tema yang terdiri dari: tubuh yang sehat, pikiran yang benar dan jiwa yang sehat, serta perumusan karakter. Pertama, John Locke percaya bahwa pikiran yang kuat ditentukan oleh tubuh yang kuat. Sebagai seorang dokter, John Locke menyarankan bagaimana menjaga kesehatan anak-anak: bagaimana menghadapi cuaca, bagaimana memilih pakaian yang tepat, bagaimana memberikan diet yang sehat, bagaimana cara tidur yang baik, dan bagaimana mencegah penyakit. Kedua, setelah memiliki tubuh yang sehat, John Locke cenderung untuk mengatur pikiran yang waras dan jiwa yang sehat oleh orang tua pada saat bayi. Apa saja kebiasaan yang dilakukan oleh orang tua akan menjadi kebiasaan anak. Ketiga, karakter anak terbentuk berdasarkan contoh orang tua. Mereka akan menjadi panutan bagi anak-anak mereka. Abstract

IKHTISAR: Dalam Kurikulum 2004, ketercapaian tujuan pembelajaran mengacu pada KKM (Kompetensi Ketuntasan Minimal) yang telah ditetapkan. Alat untuk mewujudkan tujuan pembelajaran tersebut, salah satunya, adalah dengan penerapan metode pembelajaran yang sesuai. Kesesuaian termaksud misalnya ditinjau dari karakteristik bahan pembelajaran. Kompetensi dasar untuk menganalisis unsur intrinsik dalam cerpen (cerita pendek), misalnya, ternyata memiliki karakteristik hasil analisis yang melebar dan terbuka. Bila hal itu dibiarkan, maka akan timbul pemahaman yang liar pada diri setiap siswa terhadap unsur intrinsik cerpen. Untuk itu, harus disikapi dengan penerapan metode yang meminimalisir pelebaran dan keterbukaan tersebut. Salah satu metode pembelajaran yang membatasi melebarnya pemahaman adalah metode “jigsaw”. Metode ini, dalam implementasi PTK (Penelitian Tindakan Kelas), memiliki ciri khas dalam pembentukan kelompok ahli. Kegunaan kelompok ahli ini adalah sebagai alat pembantu penyampai pemahaman dan penjelasan kepada anggota kelompok lainnya. Dari kelompok ahli inilah siswa, sebagai peserta didik, mendapatkan informasi yang dibahas dalam pembelajaran. Para siswa diharapkan tidak menafsirkan unsur intrinsik cerpen secara tidak terkendali. Dengan demikian, tujuan pembelajaran yang salah satunya dicapai melalui evaluasi pembelajaran akan mudah diwujudkan.KATA KUNCI: Peningkatan aktivitas, proses belajar-mengajar, hasil belajar, tujuan pembelajaran, metode “jigsaw”, kelompok ahli, dan penelitian tindakan kelas.ABSTRACT: This article entitled the “Improving Learning Activity and Learning Outcomes with Jigsaw Method Implementation in Analysis Learning of the Short Story Intrinsic Element at Senior High School’s Students”. In the 2004 Curriculum, the learning objectives goal is based on the Minimum Complete Competence. There are some instuments to achieve learning goal, one of them is by implementing appropiate learning method. Appropiate referred to in terms of caracteristics such as learning materials. For example, the basic competence to analyze an intrinsic element of the short story has wide and open characteristics on its analysis. If it is being ignored, then, there will be a wild understanding on every student to the intrinsic element of short story. So, it should be addressed by implementing a method to minimize the wideness and opennes. One of the methods that limit the wideness is Jigsaw method. This method, in the implementation of Class Room Action Research, is charaterized by the formation of expert group. This expert group is an instrument to help giving understanding and explanation to the rest of the group. From expert group, students, as learners, get the information to be discussed in the study. The students are expected to do not interpret the instrinsic elements of short story wildly. Abstract

IKHTISAR: Pendidikan karakter akan berhasil seiring dengan pendidikan multikultural, yang di dalamnya terkandung nilai-nilai universal. Pendidikan karakter, melalui proses pendidikan multikultural, akan menghasilkan manusia yang bermutu, berakhlak mulia, dan berkepribadian, yang tidak hanya mengandalkan kecerdasan intelektual tetapi juga kecerdasan sosial, emosi, dan religiusitas. Pendidikan karakter dan multikultural, dengan demikian, merupakan dua hal yang penting bagi bangsa Indonesia. Pendidikan karakter akan bermuara pada kepribadian yang khas, sementara pendidikan multikultural merupakan pendekatan yang progresif dalam rangka transformasi pendidikan untuk merespons kritik dan kebijakan serta praktek pendidikan secara umum. Bisa dikatakan bahwa hasil pendidikan multikultural adalah terbentuknya karakter yang diharapkan oleh empat pilar pendidikan dari UNESCO (United Nations for Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization); dan implementasinya di Indonesia dapat diwujudkan untuk mengamalkan Pancasila, mencapai cita-cita dalam UUD (Undang-Undang Dasar) 1945, menjaga keutuhan NKRI (Negara Kesatuan Republik Indonesia), dan mempererat kebersamaan dan kekompakan masyarakat Indonesia seperti diinginkan oleh semboyan negara, yaitu Bhinneka Tunggal Ika atau berbeda-beda namun tetap satu juga.KATA KUNCI: Pendidikan karakter, pendidikan multikultural, kesatuan dalam keragaman, serta empat pilar pendidikan dan kebangsaan di Indonesia.ABSTRACT: This paper entitled “Character and Multicultural Educations: The pillars of Education and Nationalism in Indonesia”. Character education will be managed in line with multicultural education, in which it is containing the universal values. Character education, through the process of multicultural education, will produce quality human, noble, and personality, which is not only accentuated to intellectual but also rely on social intelligence, emotional, and religiosity. Character education and multicultural, however, are two things that are important to the nation of Indonesia. Character education will lead to the distinctive personality, while multicultural education is a progressive approach to the transformation of education in order to respond to criticism and education policies and practices in general. It can be said that the result of multicultural education is the formation of character education as expected by the four pillars of UNESCO (United Nations for Educational, Scientific, and Cultural Organization); and its implementation in Indonesia can be realized for implementing the Pancasila, achieving the ideals based on the Constitution 1945, maintaining the integrity of the Unitary State ofthe Republic of Indonesia, and strengthen the unity and cohesiveness of Indonesian society as desired by the state motto, Unity in Diversity, or it is different but still one too. Abstract

ABSTRACT: E-learning is a technology which supports teaching and learning via a computer and the web technology. It bridges the gap between a teacher and a student in two different geographical locations. Advancement in internet and multimedia technology is the basic enable for e-learning. E-learning applications facilitate online access to learning content and administration. Despite much enthusiasm about the roles of technology in education, its role in transforming teacher learning, in ways aligned with advances in the learning sciences and contemporary socio-cultural perspectives, few changes have occurred. While many teacher educators are turning away from technology, after early attempts met with mitigated success, some are pushing the boundaries of teacher education and professional activity systems. This paper identifies and analyzes emerging trends and models in e-learning for teacher education and professional development from the developing research base, both international trends and current developments. Educational institutions and teaching staff have many benefits due to emergence of modern technology. Teachers have their own networks through which they connect themselves with other teachers across the globe. Institutions have web-supported classrooms. Similarly, it also enhanced the responsibilities of schools, colleges, and universities that should have such teachers who can produce such students, who after receiving their education can adjust themselves at any platform.KEY WORD: E-learning, higher education, multimedia technology, teaching and learning, networks, online access, and professional development.IKHTISAR: Artikel ini berjudul “Relevansi E-Learning di Perguruan Tinggi”. E-learning adalah teknologi yang mendukung pengajaran dan pembelajaran melalui komputer dan teknologi web. Ia menjembatani kesenjangan antara guru dan siswa di dua lokasi geografis yang berbeda. Kemajuan internet dan teknologi multimedia adalah kemampuan mendasar untuk e-learning. Aplikasi e-learning memfasilitasi akses online untuk konten dan administrasi pembelajaran. Meskipun banyak antusiasme tentang peran teknologi dalam pendidikan, perannya dalam mengubah pembelajaran guru, dengan menyelaraskan kemajuan ilmu pembelajaran dengan perspektif sosial-budaya kontemporer, masih sedikit perubahan telah terjadi. Sementara banyak pendidik guru yang berpaling dari teknologi, setelah upaya awal menemui kekurang-berhasilan, ada pula yang mendorong mengatasi batas-batas pendidikan guru dan sistem kegiatan profesional. Makalah ini mengidentifikasi dan menganalisis tren dan model dalam e-learning untuk pendidikan guru dan pengembangan profesional dari penelitian dasar dan pengembangan, baik secara tren internasional maupun perkembangan saat ini. Lembaga pendidikan dan staf pengajar memiliki banyak manfaat karena munculnya teknologi modern ini. Paru guru memiliki jaringan mereka sendiri di mana mereka dapat menghubungkan diri dengan guru-guru lain di seluruh dunia. Lembaga-lembaga memiliki ruang kelas berbasis web yang mendukung. Abstract

IKHTISAR: Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti tahap pengaplikasian kemahiran insaniah dalam kurikulum program kejuruteraan bagi pelajar kejuruteraan awam, elektrik, dan mekanikal di Politeknik Port Dickson (PPD) Negeri Sembilan, Politeknik Kota Bharu (PKB) Kelantan, dan Politeknik Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (POLISAS) Pahang. Kajian ini menggunakan kajian deskriptif berbentuk tinjauan, yang melibatkan sampel seramai 297 orang pelajar dan 143 orang pensyarah dari ketiga-tiga buah politeknik dengan menggunakan instrumen soal selidik dan temubual. Melalui analisis skor min dan sisihan piawai, dapatan kajian mendapati bahawa tahap aplikasi kemahiran insaniah dalam kurikulum program kejuruteraan di politeknik berada di tahap sederhana. Didapati bahawa kemahiran etika moral dan profesional merupakan elemen kemahiran insaniah yang paling banyak diaplikasikan dalam kurikulum program kejuruteraan. Berdasarkan ujian ANOVA sehala, terdapat perbezaan yang signifikan antara tahap penguasaan kemahiran insaniah sewaktu proses pembelajaran dan pengajaran di politeknik dengan program kejuruteraan yang diajar oleh pensyarah. Kajian ini mencadangkan satu garis panduan dalam mengaplikasikan kemahiran insaniah dalam kurikulum program kejuruteraan di politeknik-politeknik di Malaysia.KATA KUNCI: Kemahiran insaniah, proses pengajaran dan pembelajaran, kejuruteraan awam, kejuruteraan elektrik, kejuruteraan mekanikal, dan politeknik.ABSTRACT: This paper entitled “Soft Skills in Teaching and Learning Process at the Engineering Program in Polytechnic of Malaysia”. This study was conducted to identify the level of soft skills apply in engineering programmes’ curriculum for civil, electric, and mechanical engineering students in Polytechnic of Port Dickson (PPD) Negeri Sembilan, Polytechnic of Kota Bharu (PKB) Kelantan, and Polytechnic of Sultan Haji Ahmad Shah (POLISAS) Pahang. By using descriptive survey, the samples for this study involving 297 numbers of students from the selected polytechnic using questionnaire and interview. Researchers found that there is moderate level of soft skills applied in engineering programmes’ curriculum by using analysis of mean and standard deviation. Profesional and moral etiquette skills is the highest soft skills element that being applied in engineering programmes’ curriculum. By using the one way ANOVA test, there is statistically significantly difference between the levels of soft skills applied in engineering programmes’ curriculum during teaching and learning process in polytechnic and the type of engineering programmes being taught. Abstract

IKHTISAR: Kajian ini bertujuan untuk mengenal pasti kesan faktor gaya kepimpinan jurulatih terhadap kepuasan atlet sekolah sukan. Seramai 206 orang atlet dari dua buah sekolah sukan di Malaysia telah dipilih dengan menggunakan pensampelan rawak mudah dilibatkan dalam kajian ini. Kajian ini adalah satu kajian kuantitatif bukan eksperimen dengan menggunakan kaedah tinjauan untuk menjawab objektif kajian. Dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa tidak terdapat perbezaan gender yang signifikan (t = -.747, df = 204, p > 0.05) gaya kepimpinan jurulatih dalam kalangan atlet berdasarkan jantina. Walau bagaimanapun, dapatan kajian secara keseluruhan menunjukkan bahawa terdapat perbezaan yang signifikan (t = 2.379, df = 197.943, p < 0.05) gaya kepimpinan jurulatih dalam kalangan atlet berdasarkan kategori sukan. Selain daripada itu, dapatan kajian juga menunjukkan bahawa terdapat hubungan yang positif dan signifikan (r = .586, p < .05) antara gaya kepimpinan jurulatih dari semua dimensi dengan kepuasan atlet. Dapatan kajian juga menunjukkan bahawa dimensi latihan dan arahan merupakan pengaruh dominan yang signifikan (β = .68, t (206) = 13.497, p < .05) bagi gaya kepimpinan jurulatih terhadap kepuasan atlet. Secara keseluruhannya, dapatan kajian menunjukkan bahawa terdapat hubungan dan pengaruh gaya kepimpinan jurulatih terhadap kepuasan atlet.KATA KUNCI: Gaya kepimpinan, jurulatih, kepuasan atlet, sekolah sukan, prestasi atlet, faktor intrinsik dan ekstrinsik, serta latihan dan arahan. ABSTRACT: This paper entitled “The Influence of Coaches Leadership Style towards the Athletes’ Satisfaction at Malaysian Sports Schools”. The purpose of this study was to identify the effects of coaches’ leadership style on athletes’ satisfaction. Participants consist of athletes (n = 206) were randomly selected from the two Malaysian Sports Schools. The study adopted a survey-based non experimental quantitative research design. The result showed that there was no significant gender differences (t = -.747, df = 204, p > 0.05) on coaches’ leadership style among the athletes. However, there was significant difference (t = 2.379, df = 197.943, p < 0.05) on coaches’ leadership styles among athletes based on the category of sports. Furthermore, results also showed that the relationship between coaches’ leadership style (all dimensions) and athletes’ satisfaction was positive and significant (r = .586, p < .05). Results also showed that training and instruction dimension was the primary predictor (β = .68, t (206) = 13.497, p < .05) for coaches’ leadership style. Abstract

ABSTRACT: Modernity has caused crises of meaning and value. The indictment for productivity, effectiveness and efficiency, material, and instant process is the main characteristic of modern life which has led to the fading of family educational meanings and social values. The development for spiritual intelligence program is expected to decrease the effects of those meaning and value crises. This paper tries to elaborate the roles of educational institution in facing the challenges of modernity in the era of globalization. The research focussed on the Primary School of Al-Azhar Syifa Budi Parahyangan in West Bandung Regency, West Java, Indonesia that has developed a school program named “Mumtaz” School. This program consists of 15 activities relating to the indicators for students’ spiritual intelligence, which are the ability to draw meaning from an event, the willingness to serve in religious activities, expression of gratitude, the ability to develop social values, the implementation of good deeds, finding and determining life goals, honesty, and patience. Advanced spiritual intelligence will result a noble character of students who serve God, perform social responsibity to themselves, people, and their surroundings. Finally, all stakeholders are responsible to build several characters related to spiritual intelligence, namely politeness, happiness, humbleness, respect, spirit, and discipline.KEY WORD: School programs, spiritual quotient, modernity, moral crisis, primary school, teaching-learning process, and nobility values.IKHTISAR: Artikel ini berjudul “Pengembangan Program Sekolah untuk Mendorong Kecerdasan Spiritual Siswa”. Modernitas telah menyebabkan krisis makna dan nilai. Tuntutan terhadap produktivitas, efektivitas dan efisiensi, kekayaan materi, dan proses instan adalah ciri utama kehidupan modern yang telah menyebabkan pudarnya makna pendidikan dalam keluarga dan nilai-nilai sosial. Pengembangan program kecerdasan spiritual diharapkan dapat mengurangi dampak yang timbul dari krisis makna dan nilai tersebut. Tulisan ini mencoba untuk menguraikan peran lembaga pendidikan dalam menghadapi tantangan modernitas di era globalisasi. Penelitian ini difokuskan pada Sekolah Dasar Al-Azhar Syifa Budi Parahyangan di Kabupaten Bandung Barat, Jawa Barat, Indonesia yang telah mengembangkan program sekolah bernama Sekolah “Mumtaz”. Program ini terdiri dari 15 kegiatan yang berhubungan dengan indikator kecerdasan spiritual siswa, yang berkemampuan untuk menarik makna dari suatu peristiwa, kesediaan untuk melayani dalam kegiatan keagamaan, ungkapan rasa syukur, kemampuan untuk mengembangkan nilai-nilai sosial, melakukan perbuatan baik, menemukan dan menentukan tujuan hidup, kejujuran, dan kesabaran. Kecerdasan spiritual selanjutnya akan menghasilkan akhlak mulia siswa yang bertakwa kepada Allah, mampu melakukan tanggung jawab sosial untuk diri mereka sendiri, orang lain, dan lingkungan mereka. Abstract

IKHTISAR:  Secara umum, literasi diartikan kemampuan membaca dan menulis berdasarkan usia. Pada penelitian ini ianya merujuk literasi bidang sastera, khususnya pengetahuan dan minat dalam membaca sastera. Tujuan penelitian ini untuk mendeskripsikan literasi bidang sastera pada mahasiswa Program Studi Pendidikan Bahasa dan Sastera Indonesia, Fakultas Keguruan dan Ilmu Pendidikan UNSUR (Universitas Suryakancana) di Cianjur, Jawa Barat, Indonesia. Penelitian ini dilatarbelakangi oleh isu tentang rendahnya kemampuan literasi. Metode deskriptif digunakan untuk mencapai tujuan tersebut. Instrumen yang digunakan berupa angket tertutup dan terbuka. Angket tertutup dijadikan alat untuk menjaring pengetahuan sastera, sedangkan angket terbuka untuk menggali kesan terhadap karya sastera yang dibaca. Adapun kategori bacaan sastera berbentuk buku kumpulan puisi, sejumlah novel, kumpulan cerita pendek, serta buku naskah drama. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa secara umum, literasi sastera mahasiswa dalam aspek pengetahuan masih sangat rendah, terutama sastera yang tergolong klasik, sedangkan kemampuan mengungkapkan kesan terhadap bacaan sebaliknya. Kesimpulannya, untuk mengukur kemampuan literasi sastera tidak tepat jika pengetahuan dijadikan satu-satunya alat pengukur literasi sastera.  KATA KUNCI: Literasi sastera, puisi, novel, cerita pendek, naskah drama, minat baca, mahasiswa, serta kemajuan dan kesejahteraan bangsa.ABSTRACT:  This article entitled “Literature Literacy of Students at the Study Program of Indonesian Language and Literature”. In general, literacy means the ability to read and write by age. In this study, literacy refers to the literacy of literature field, in particular knowledge and interest in reading the literature. The purpose of this study is to describe the literature literacy of students at the Study Program of Indonesian Language and Literature Education, Faculty of Education and Teacher Training UNSUR (Suryakancana University) in Cianjur, West Java, Indonesia. This research is motivated by issue of low literacy competences. Descriptive method is used to achieve the goals. Instruments used in the form of closed and open questionnaires. Enclosed questionnaire is as a tool for capturing the literature knowledge, while open questionnaire is to explore the impression to literature that is read. The categories of literature readings shaped volume of poetry, a novel, a collection of short stories, and book of drama script. The results showed that the overall literature literacy of students in aspects of literary knowledge is still very low, especially classical literature, while abilities to express the impression what they read are reveal otherwise. The conclusion is that to measure the literature literacy is not appropriate if knowledge be the only means of measuring literature literacy.KEY WORD: Literature literacy, poem, novel, short story, drama script, reading interest, students, and national progress and prosperity.    About the Authors: Dr. Hj.
