Abstract

Abstract The Maṣlaḥa Mulgha theory developed by Najmuddin al-Ṭūfī is one theory that to this day is considered controversial. At first glance, this theory seems to negate stipulations explained by the text (naṣṣ) in order to uphold truth sourced from the intellect of scholars. Nevertheless, in Indonesia, there are several legal provisions that indirectly reflect the application of al-Ṭūfī’s theory, one of which is the prohibition of interfaith marriage as regulated and reinforced through the interpretation of Q.S. al-Māidah [5]: 5 and Q.S. al-Baqarah [2]: 221. This research aims to examine the existence of al-Ṭūfī's theory and link it to the provisions prohibiting interfaith marriage in Indonesia, with the hope of providing an understanding of its relevance in the process of Islamic legal discovery. This research uses the library research method with the collection of primary, secondary, and tertiary data. The results show that the Mashlahah Mulghah theory can be one option in answering contemporary legal issues that emerge and develop complexly. Thus, the prohibition of interfaith marriage in Indonesia has significant relevance to the application of the Maṣlaḥa Mulgha theory in an applicative and solutive manner. Abstract

Abstract This study analyzes the historiography of hadith codification from a Sunni perspective during the golden age of hadith compilation, namely the third to fifth centuries of the Hijri era. The primary focus is on the historical and methodological development of hadith codification, encompassing the stages of collection, criticism, and compilation of hadith books. This period was marked by the emergence of hadith disciplines such as al-Jarh wa al-Ta'dil and Ilal al-Hadis, as well as the formation of key books such as Kutub al-Sittah. The study also highlights the influence of Sahih al-Bukhari in establishing the criteria for authenticity of hadith, which became a reference for subsequent scholars. Using a library research approach with descriptive analysis, this study emphasizes the importance of the Sunni perspective in maintaining the purity of hadith amidst controversies over Islamic sects. The results indicate that the third century of the Hijri era marked the peak of codification, with significant contributions to the preservation of Islamic tradition. Keywords: Bukhari; Golden; Hadith; Sunni.

Abstract

Abstract The phenomenon of Qur'anic exegesis studies continues to evolve according to the needs of the ummah for an authoritative and contextual understanding of the sacred text. One of the main issues is how to formulate an exegetical epistemology capable of connecting classical tradition with modern discourse. This article examines the epistemology of the tafsir Mahāsin al-Ta'wīl by Jamāluddīn al-Qāsimī, a productive scholar who compiled a complete 30-juz tafsir. This research aims to describe the uniqueness of al-Qāsimī's exegetical epistemology, including its sources, methodology, school, characteristics, approach, and validity, using library research and qualitative-descriptive analysis methods. The results show that al-Qāsimī's exegetical epistemology is based on the Qur'an, hadith, the opinions of the Companions, linguistic authority, and previous exegetes, using the bi al-ma'tsūr method accompanied by bi al-ra'y within a taḥlīlī framework. His tafsir exhibits characteristics of fiqh, scientific, theological, socio-cultural, and linguistic aspects, with validity evident in the consistent use of authoritative sources, as seen in QS. al-Baqarah: 223. This research affirms that al-Qāsimī's exegetical epistemology serves as a bridge between classical and modern tafsir traditions and opens opportunities for developing contemporary contextual tafsir methodologies. Abstract

Abstract This study examines the patriarchal construction in classical interpretations of QS. al-Nisāʾ [4]:34 and QS. al-Baqarah [2]:228, and deconstructs them through Muhammad Arkoun’s critical hermeneutics (Applied Islamology). The main issue addressed is the dominance of classical interpretations by al-Ṭabarī, Ibn Kathīr, and al-Qurṭubī, which emerged from patriarchal social structures and a closed epistemology, thereby marginalizing alternative perspectives. The aim of this study is to offer a more ethical and humanistic reinterpretation by emphasizing gender justice. The research employs a qualitative method with critical discourse analysis, integrating exegesis, anthropology, sociology, and linguistics. The novelty of this study lies in the application of Arkoun’s Apply Islamology through the concept of epistemic break and openness to the unsaid, in order to dismantle the hegemony of patriarchal interpretations. Its contribution is to open up a space for reinterpretation of Islamic teachings that is more contextual, responsive to contemporary social dynamics, and supportive of the principle of gender equality. Keywords: Applied Islamology; Critical hermeneutics; Gender justice; Muhammad Arkoun; Patriarchal exegesis.

Abstract

Abstract The rapid expansion of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in interpersonal communication has generated complex ethical challenges that remain insufficiently explored from a Qur’anic ethical standpoint. Although existing studies discuss AI ethics broadly, research rarely integrates bibliometric evidence with Islamic moral principles to construct an operational ethical framework. Addressing this gap, this study investigates ethical concerns surrounding AI-mediated communication through a Qur’anic perspective while mapping global research trends to highlight the thematic landscape. Using bibliometric analysis of 220 Scopus-indexed articles, the study identifies major clusters such as Interpersonal Communication, AI Ethics, and Communication Technologies, with the Qur’anic Perspective emerging as an underrepresented yet crucial conceptual bridge. The analysis reveals key ethical issues privacy risks, algorithmic bias, opacity, and the erosion of human trust. As its primary novelty, the study proposes a Qur’anic-based strategic framework that operationalizes the values of justice (‘adl), truthfulness (ṣidq), trustworthiness (amānah), and human dignity (‘izzah) into practical guidelines for AI design and use. This integration offers a normative foundation that can strengthen ethical AI governance within interpersonal contexts. The findings emphasize that responsible AI deployment requires both technological safeguards and value-driven principles to preserve ethical integrity and support humane communication practices. Abstract

Abstract Perfectionism is a psychological condition in which a person tends to set very high standards and show excessive control, so it requires a value-based approach that can create a better balance. This article discusses the correlation between al-Maraghi’s interpretation of QS. al-Kahf: 23–24 and perfectionistic attitudes. The study uses qualitative library research, an Islamic psychology approach, and content analysis. The findings reveal that these verses embody three central values: trusting Allah without excessive control, remembering Allah in every plan, and being mindful of human limitations. These values are relevant for managing perfectionist tendencies and preventing their negative impact on mental health. The results also suggest that al-Maraghi’s tafsir offers a Qur’anic perspective that can be applied to address modern psychological challenges, making an interdisciplinary contribution to tafsir studies and personality psychology. Further research is recommended to explore other verses or the works of other mufassir to enrich the discussion. Keywords: Al-Maraghi’s Tafsir; Islamic Psychology; Perfectionism; Surah al-Kahf: 23–24.

Abstract

Abstract This study addresses the problem of misinterpretation of the hadith stating that “women constitute the majority of the inhabitants of Hell,” which has frequently been used to support negative generalizations about women. Using the library research method, this study employs a combined approach of sanad criticism, textual and linguistic analysis, intertextual comparison with relevant Qur’anic verses and other hadiths, as well as contextual interpretation based on historical conditions. The findings reveal that although the hadith is authentically transmitted through strong, continuous chains of narration, its meaning cannot be understood literally or detached from its socio-historical background. Intertextual analysis shows that the Qur’an never designates women as inherently more likely to enter Hell, and contextual evidence indicates that the Prophet delivered this statement as a situational moral warning rather than a discriminatory judgment. The study concludes that the hadith emphasizes specific immoral traits, not gender, and must be interpreted in harmony with the Qur’an’s principles of justice and ethical accountability. Keywords: Contextualization; Hadith criticism; Intertextual approach; Women in hadith.

Abstract

Abstract The increasingly alarming environmental crisis demands a new approach that is not only technical, but also moral and spiritual. Islam as a comprehensive religion has ecological ethical guidelines sourced from the Qur'an and the hadith of the Prophet Muhammad. This research aims to uncover the values of environmental conservation in hadith and interpret it through the views of classical and contemporary hadith scholars. Using a thematic analysis approach and qualitative-descriptive methods, this study examines a number of hadiths related to the prohibition of polluting the environment, the recommendation to plant trees, cleanliness, and human responsibility as a caliph on earth. The results of the analysis show that the hadiths of the Prophet contain ecological principles such as the prevention of damage (dar' al-mafsadah), the preservation of life, cleanliness as worship, and the ecological mandate of humans. The interpretations of scholars such as al-Nawawi, Ibn Hajar, al-Qurṭubī, and Yusuf al-Qaradawi reinforce that environmental ethics in Islam is rooted in maqāṣid al-shari'ah, specifically ḥifẓ al-nafs, ḥifẓ al-māl, and ḥifẓ al-bi'ah. This research contributes to expanding the Islamic ecotheological paradigm and provides a normative basis for the development of environmental policies based on religious values. Keywords: Caliph fi al-arḍ; Ecological hadith; Environmental conservation; Islamic ethics; Maqāṣid al-syarī'ah.
