Abstract

At the beginning of 2020, the world was shocked by the outbreak of a new virus, namely a new type of coronavirus (SARS-CoV-2) and the disease is called Coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19). Until now this virus is rapidly spreading and research is still ongoing. One of the basic prevention efforts of the corona virus or Covid-19 is to diligently wash hands in detail and thoroughly. This is because the corona virus is transmitted through droplets or body fluids that come out when coughing or sneezing. Alfurqon Mosque is one of the places of worship in Medan Selayang District which is a red zone area. It is said to be a red zone because these are areas where residents are positively infected with Covid-19. Based on data from the Medan city health office in April 2020 in this region there were 10 positive patients in treatment. The Alfurqon Mosque has a congregation registered with the STM (Union Please Help) as many as 600 heads of families. So far, this mosque has not provided a place for washing hands specifically accompanied by soap / hand soap. The solution offered is to provide appropriate technology in the form of a hand washing sink that has a 520 liter water tank integrated with a water source pipes and has two sinks accompanied by liquid soap in each sink. This tool uses a foot pedal-style tap valve to turn on and close the water tap so that after washing the hands of the congregation there is no need to touch the tap again.

Abstract

ISPA is a respiratory disorder that causes children to tend to be lethargic, fussy, and lack of appetite, thus reducing the child's immunity which affects other health problems. The use of Complementary Therapies can help to reduce the impact of disease incidence, especially ISPA in toddlers at home as an alternative therapy for self-medication for families. The method of implementing community service activities is carried out by providing education, training and mentoring to 41 people consisting of village health worker and mother groups. The implementation of activities for the mothers group began with distributing pre-test questionnaires, then continued with providing health education about complementary therapies, herbal therapy simulations and toddler massage training to village health worker and mother groups, the activities were evaluated by providing posttest sheets. The results of the implementation of community service activities after health education and training activities obtained good knowledge about complementary therapies (75.6%) and sufficient knowledge (24.4%), paired t-test results before and after health education and the training obtained p value 0.005. It is hoped that village health worker can become activists and health promoters for mothers in an effort to prevent health problems by using complementary therapies.

Abstract

Sei Siarti Village, Panai Tengah District, Labuhanbatu Regency have problems in the form of limited clean water sources that are suitable for use. There are several potentials including peat water, drilled well water, and Barumun river water that crosses the village. The condition of peat water that does not comply with quality standards for water that is fit for consumption has a brownish color, high acidity, and the organic matter contained in peat water is high enough to cause an odor. The well water has a salty taste (high salt content) so that what has the potential is Barumun river water even though it has a cloudy color. The method used to purify cloudy river water is through the processes of coagulation (deposition), filtration (filtering), absorption (absorption), and adsorption (ion exchange). This water purifier is made using 2 tubes filled with silica sand, MGS, activated carbon, and zeolite sand so that the water produced is clear and fit for consumption and can be utilized by the surrounding community. The results obtained from this water purification are water that does not have a smell, taste, and is clear in color so that it is suitable for use by the surrounding community

Abstract

COVID-19 is a type of virus that attacks the respiratory system that can affect anyone from infants to children to adults, including pregnant women and nursing mothers. This disease can spread rapidly through droplets that come out when the patient sneezes or coughs. Symptoms of this disease are often considered normal by the community, so that it has a risk of transmission and can spread to other people, especially children. Limited knowledge and ability in prevention needs to be improved by providing counseling and training to housewives. Actions taken by implementing efforts to maintain family health through increasing knowledge and knowing prevention measures for transmission to children. Minimizing the spread of disease requires continuous action, this requires the role of housewives as executors of health care for family members. Increasing the knowledge and skills of housewives is needed to help people overcome their health problems. Health problems in the community often occur, among others, due to inadequate knowledge of disease prevention, crowded environment, inadequate socio-economic conditions. Implementing actions by increasing public knowledge and training on ways to minimize the spread of infection is the concern and assistance of health workers.

Abstract

Pesticide toxicity is a phenomenon that needs to be prevented, which is generally caused by the risky behavior of using pesticides. This PPM activity is one of the community empowerment activities to reduce the risk of pesticide toxicity through the GEMPAR (Gerakan Masyarakat Petani Atasi Racun) action. GEMPAR consists of eight farmer movements to prevent the risk of toxicity due to pesticides used. The eight GEMPAR actions were applied by farmers with promotional and educational methods through the GEMPAR demonstration activities. The demonstration implementation method is presented by the farming community which is divided into three areas in Sumber Mufakat Village, namely Berhala, Simpang Sumbul, and Pasar Sumbul. Demonstrations from these three areas were contested as a form of appreciation for the community so that they could motivate the community to participate in preventing the risk of pesticide toxicity. The demonstration that displayed the messages of the eight GEMPAR movements was carried out well. Each demonstration gives special characteristics either through songs or slogans related to preventing the risk of toxicity. The community became very enthusiastic about the demonstration which could increase the participation of the farming community to use better and healthier pesticides sustainably.

Abstract

The high frequency of chemicals use such as fertilizers and pesticides in intercropping planting patterns giving farmers a high risk of poisoning exposure. This devotion applies the appropriate technology in organic ponds to produce Liquid Organic Fertilizer (POC). The use of POC is horticultural farmers empowered which is useful for improving poor organic soil conditions and producing organic products with the object of chili and vegetable crops. POC applied to soil and plants can increase agricultural growth and production, thus providing a strong basis for farmers to reduce chemical use. The results of the treatment were observed through plant growth and production, accompanied by intensive assistance, as innovations applied in this PPM activity. The resulting output is the effectiveness of POC which is applied to chili and vegetable crops. Empowerment activities show a significant development in which soil conditions become more fertile, leaf thickness increases and becomes greener, plant stems are stronger, pest and disease attacks can be suppressed. This community dedication is very beneficial for the farming community and helps in creating healthy farmers and the environment.
