Abstract

In the process of teaching and learning, as a teacher need a handbook to guide students in learning materials. The objectives of the research are to develop a textbook for teaching material in the course of Introduction to Text Types in accordance with the quality, criteria and also to improve the quality of teaching and learning process. The quality of a textbook has to focus on students' understanding in the material, teachers can easily convey the material in detail. Syllabus and lesson plan of the course is used as references in developing materials. There are several steps in developing a textbook, such as: planning, organizing, implementation and evaluation. The result of measurement from the reviewers based on categories has 40.33 in average score. It came out based on several aspects, such as: the concept of truth, clarity sentence, linguistic, evaluation, enforceability, handouts structure, physical appearance and references. The practically test was done by the students got 113 in average score. It shows that criterian of textbook is excellent to use in the course of Introduction to Text Types, English Department of FTIK UNISNU Jepara.

Abstract

This paper entitled “Religious Propaganda as Hegemony Strategy Depicted in Agora (2009)” aims to find out the hegemony occurred in Agora movie that is reflected through religious propaganda. In conducting the research, the researcher uses the theory of hegemony by Antonio Gramsci. The data collection was based on the dialogue of the movie, which then supported by books, journals, and articles depicting the hegemony and the social setting of the movie. In conducting the research, the researchers found that the hegemony depicted in the Agora movie are reflected in the religious propaganda in the form of condemnation towards other religion and the preaching of the Christianity itself.

Abstract

This research aims to describe a multicultural woman identity in Cala Ibi novel written by Nukila Amal. The method uses qualitative method based on theory of pschoanalysis feminism. Through women character analysis, it found that women identity constructed in symbolic and imaginary phase. The women character resistance to symbolic order with creates other self. In imaginary phase, the other self is a woman with split identity who needs to be free and submissive at once. It voices multiculturalism point of view. The women approval to differences and cultural diversity shows her position as a multicultural subject. However, the women voice can also become desire for ‘other’ as result on alienation that faced by her in postmodern situation.

Abstract

This research is titled " Error Analysis of Writing Chinese Letter by Learners in Purwokerto". the purpose of the research is to improve the students' competence in mastering Mandarin properly. This study focuses on the errors of Chinese Hanzi letters written by the students in learning Mandarin. especially on the order of writing mandarin strokes. The purpose of the study is to show the errors of Chinese letters by students in Purwokerto and explain the factors that cause the errors of writing letters mandarin. Data were collected using interview technique, observation, collecting of student task result. Data from the students were analyzed using Error Analysis from Corder (1976). then compared with mandarin standard based on bihuan bishuan which was made by Suparto (2003) and Song (2001).

Abstract

Beauty concept, as one of the central features of women’s oppression, has been standardized by the West through their global culture machine time after time. By contrasting a bold binary opposition between the West female body and the Other’s female body, the West has classified some certain features for shaping the construction of beauty concept. The binary causes the in-between feeling as described by Alaina Wong and Lois Ann Yamanaka in their short stories entitled China Doll (2001) and When Asian Eyes are Smiling (2001). The short stories show how the female characters of short stories, who are represented the Asian American women, are being colonized through some stereotypes since their body contours do not meet the standard of a beautiful body. Despite the stereotypes that embedded to the Asian American women; in fact, they are able to redefine the meaning of beauty through some cultural strategies. Thus, this study aims at knowing how Asian American women reconstruct their conceptual understanding of body and beauty which has been imposed by the West. By reshaping their body contours or even imitating the West beauty treatments, Asian American women are disrupting the essential concept of the so-called a beautiful body

Abstract

Beach Name Suwuk not too familiar. In Fact, the beauty of coastal landscape in Sub croton this Kebumen District wxtraordinary charming. In addition to its beauful beaches, the surrounding area is a mix bed of the sea, cluster karst hills, coconut plantations and paddy fields. The potential that the Government attempted District Kebumen to explore the region’s financial resources. Yutuk and Hadroh are culturals potential of the existing Suwuk Beach Village Tambakmulyo as main attraction besides the natural beauty of the beach. Seeing the opportunity, the potential cultural of Yutuk and Hadroh needs to be developed. Innovations necessary for this potential is not monotonous. So the beach could be a target Suwuk Tourism mainstay Kebumen District

Abstract

This research is aimed to investigate how sexual preference is displayed. The data of this study are casual conversation among homosexual men. The features of the turn-taking system analyzed is topic shift to determine the topics mostly discussed in the conversations. How the choices of the topic induce the in-group membership feeling among the participants will also be analyzed.. Qualitative approach, with inferential method, is used in this research. The result of this study shows that the most common topics brought by homosexual men during their conversations are relationship/dating, sexuality, dressing up, people and light topics. Furthermore, the sexual preference of the participants provides basic common ground for speakers to initiate the conversations and to develop sense of belonging

Abstract

The main problem in this research is the study of postcolonial as a phenomenon that exsistin the United States in a contemporary literary work, Beloved. Author presents spaces as a form of resistance. To solve the problem in this study used the perspective of space postcolonialism. This study uses the theory of space pascakonlonial to see criticism and symbols traumatic factors. The first thing that is done with this theory is seen forms of space depicted in the novel and saw the relationship between space with other elements, such as characters. Furthermore, researchers found a relationship and place it against the function of historical fact. The author makes some dominant place in this novel, which are the real world, the phenomenal world, and the house 124. There are things that are identical between the description of the existing space in the novel and the outside (history).

Abstract

Kajian yang menganalisa novel the Wizard of Oz ini bertujuan untuk menemukan gambaran falsafah budaya jawa yang terdapat pada salah satu tokoh pendukung dalam novel ini yaitu Tin Woodman. Dengan menggunakan metode deskriptif kualitatif, teori kajian budaya serta pendekatan filosofi, kajian ini diharapkan dapat memberikan jawaban atas formulasi pertanyaan: falsafah budaya jawa apa sajakah yang tergambar pada tokoh Tin Woodman? Hasil dari kajian ini menunjukkan bahwa terdapat enam falsafah budaya jawa yang tergambar pada tokoh Tin Woodman, yaitu: Digdaya tanpa aji, nglurug tanpa bala, laku hambeging kartika, lila lamun kelangan ora getun, sareh pikoleh, and sing tekun golet teken bakal tekan. nilai-nilai budaya yang ditemukan pada tokoh Tin Woodman tersebut membuktikan bahwa falsafah budaya jawa yang sarat dengan nilai moral dapat ditemukan dalam berbagai karya sastra termasuk diantaranya dalam sebuah novel yang berisi tentang cerita rakyat terkenal dari Amerika “The Wizard of Oz”
