Abstract

The internationalization of institutions proclaimed by Universitas Negeri Semarang has led to the emergence of bilingual class program in every study program. The challenge faced when there are bilingual classes is the ability of lecturers in several majors to provide courses in both English and Bahasa. This study aims at answering the challenges currently faced by UNNES when providing a bilingual class. Then, it is to illustrate and describe the implementation of Content and Language Integrated Learning (CLIL) on the tennis class at the Faculty of Sport Science. The result show that combination of CLIL and SFL was chosen because CLIL teaching method has two simultaneous focuses on content and language while SFL is a teaching method emphasizing the deconstruction of academic genres texts as well as explicit teaching on text features. It is expexted that the combination of the two can produce teaching methods that emphasize course material and mastery of English as a medium of instruction in a balance and easier to understand due to the explicit deconstruction of academic texts.

Abstract

Story books, through the pictures and simple language they use and also the age of their readers, could become a strategic media to promote multiculturalism among children. Multi cultures also mean multi identities of the people living in Indonesia. This article is aimed to dismantle how the identities of children from various cultures in Indonesia in Surat dari Lembah Baliem, a book for children describing Indonesian diversity, are represented. Despite the multicultural values it contains, the stories in this book also show us that Indonesian multicultural diversity implies dynamic communication and tension among the cultural groups it describes. Moreover, the representation still shows stereotypical model that operates against the multicultural idealism it promotes.

Abstract

This article analized meme United Nations of Rendang through Levi-Struss structuralism perspective. In this case, social an culture seen as a structure which shows human unconsiuous to structuring a phenomenon. Sign interrelation in United Nations of Rendang as a structure automatically relate to the other meme which is another structure. Those sign convey to the surface structure and reveal the deep structure of this phenomenon. As a result, meme United Nations of Rendang shows rejection on Masterchef jury for the criticism on rendang as surface structure. This surface structure lead to awareness of same region country, awareness of western culinary domination, and a rejection for western culinary domination as deep structure.

Abstract

Calung Lengger is one of the traditional art from Banyumas, Central Java. Calung Lengger is a tool / media to represent the identity of Banyumas community. Calung Lengger experiencing ups and downs in its development, caused by the progress of science and technology. This influence is very large for the development of the traditional arts of calung and lengger. This traditional art of calung lengger must be defended in order to maintain the existence of art itself. Various efforts are made by art workers by innovation and creation. This innovation and creations by incorporating other traditional arts such as lion dance, art from Tiongkok. This can happen because of the intensive interaction by using the symbols that exist in each art. Symbolic interaction is a continuous relationship between symbols and intercations. The symbol used is a representation of a mutually agreed phenomenon. The interaction between Banyumas and Tionghoa community is bridged by symbols, and the symbol is a verbal symbol that uses art as a means of representing a phenomenon. This intensive interaction also results in a combination of two cultures that occur in a harmonious and peaceful life.

Abstract

The emergence of noir fiction in Southeast Asian countries has showcased particular evolvement of noir elements. The noir works produced in this region have embraced shifting noir themes and noir protagonists that slightly move away from what formerly constitutes noir fiction. Thus, this study aims at investigating to what extent these two noir elements from noir fiction produced in Southeast Asia has differed from its preceding noir works in the scholarship of noir genre. As a preliminary finding, this study only highlights the shifting noir elements taken from selected noir stories represented by some noir anthologies produced in Southeast Asia. They are KL Noir from Malaysia, Singapore Noir from Singapore, and Manila Noir from the Philippines. The result shows that noir themes have departed from criminality and violence to some other contextualized themes such as supernaturalism, religion, and colonial legacy. Meanwhile, noir protagonists are portrayed as those who are involved with criminality not only as criminals but also as ‘heroes’. Finally, what is discussed in this study is expected to contribute to a larger discussion of fluidity in noir genre, and, also, noir, or darkness, is proven to be derived from various perspectives.

Abstract

Teens creativity in producing graffiti discourse is a manifestation of their ability to express themselves. Various discourses of graffiti show patterns that can be understood as well as a form of adolescent ability to absorb information from the environment. Assessment of the topic of graffiti discourse generated by adolescents will lead to an understanding of the language of adolescence. This study focuses on trying to figure out the development of topics as a teenager creates a graffiti and knows the understanding of concepts and graffiti media. Some theories of discourse development are used to explore more about topic relation and information built into discourse. The results of this study are descriptions of the supporting components of conformity between the topic information and the development of graffiti discourse. CTL approach can be used as one of the solutions to improve students' graffiti writing skill. In addition to improving skills, Contextual Teaching and Learning (CTL) approach also plays an active role for students to remember experiences in their lives and more able to process words to be written in the form of graffiti discourse.

Abstract

Mata kuliah Nusus Adabiyyah (Analisis Teks Sastra) merupakan salah satu mata kuliah yang baru muncul dalam kurikulum berbasis kompetensi dan konservasi prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Arab FBS UNNES. Pembelajaran Nusus Adabiyyah (Analisis Teks Sastra) diberikan bagi mahasiswa prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Arab UNNES semester 6, yang merupakan kelanjutan dari mata kuliah Pengantar Ilmu Sastra (ditempuh pada semester 1) dan Tarikh Adab (Sejarah Sastra Arab, yang ditempuh pada semester 4). Pembelajaran Nusus Adabiyyah (Analisis Teks Sastra) memerlukan penyempurnaan melalui pengembangan perangkat pembelajaran dan bahan ajar yang sesuai. Penerapan Cross Cultural Understanding (selanjutnya disingkat CCU) atau pemahaman lintas budaya dalam bahan ajar Nusus Adabiyyah (Analisis Teks Sastra) akan mengantarkan mahasiswa mempelajari analisis teks sastra sekaligus meningkatkan kepekaan budaya dan daya analisis mahasiswa. Artikel ini akan membahas mengenai kebutuhan mahasiswa terhadap bahan ajar Nusus Adabiyyah melalui CCU, respon mahasiswa terhadap bahan ajar Nusus Adabiyyah melalui CCU, dan pemanfaatan CCU dalam bahan ajar Nusus Adabiyyah. Jenis dan pendekatan penelitian yang dimanfaatkan adalah penelitian dan pengembangan (research and develpment) yang diterapkan pada bidang pendidikan. Subjek penelitian adalah mahasiswa prodi Pendidikan Bahasa Arab UNNES yang mengambil mata kuliah Nusus Adabiyyah, yang telah menempuh mata kuliah Pengantar Ilmu Sastra (ditempuh pada semester 1) dan Tarikh Adab (Sejarah Sastra Arab, yang ditempuh pada semester 4). Metode pengumpulan data yang digunakan pada penelitian ini mencakup metode tes dan non-tes meliputi teknik angket, wawancara, dan dokumentasi. 27 orang mahasiswa (54%) membutuhkan materi yang fokus pada karya sastra Arab dan teknik analisis karya sastra Arab. Materi di luar pembahasan mengenai karya sastra Arab dan teknik analisis sastra belum dibutuhkan oleh mahasiswa, mengingat praktek menganalisis karya sastra Arab menggunakan teori sastra modern masih dirasakan sulit oleh mahasiswa. Pembelajaran Nusus Adabiyyah dengan memasukkan materi mengenai pemahaman lintas budaya, memang hal baru bagi mahasiswa. Konsep pemahaman lintas budaya membuat mahasiswa lebih termotivasi untuk belajar, lebih terpacu untuk berpikir positif, dan terdorong untuk memahami budaya dari bahasa sasaran

Abstract

This research investigates the content of phonological variations of Bahasa Jawa Dialek Brebes. The analysis has been done in this study used generative phonology as an approach to analyze the problem of the research. The purpose of this study is to identify the sound’s variations of the language. The data of the study are dictionary and native speakers of the language. The method of this study is descriptive qualitative as the base rule of the process in analyzing the content of phonological rules in Bahasa Jawa Dialek Brebes. Abstract

Pendidikan memposisikan manusia sebagai makhluk sosial untuk berinteraksi satu sama lain dan menjadikannya tempat yang paling menyenangkan bagi mereka (siswa) untuk tumbuh dan berkembang sesuai dengan potensi yang dimiliki sebagai bekal untuk kehidupan di masyarakat. Oleh karena itu, untuk membentuk pendidikan humanisme, hal-hal yang sangat harus diperhatikan adalah keseimbangan antara dua aspek, yaitu aspek internal dan eksternal manusia. Pendidikan Humanisme bertujuan untuk menjadikan dan menempatkan siswa sebagai manusia yang bebas dalam proses belajar. Bebas untuk memilih dan melakukan hal-hal yang positif. Pendidikan Humanisme apabila dikaitkan dengan konsep pendidikan Ki Hadjar Dewantoro “Ing Ngarso Sung Tulodo, Ing Madyo Mangun Karso, Tut Wuri Handayani”, memiliki keselarasan yaitu seseorang yang mampu mengembangkan semua aspek kemanusiaan secara menyeluruh dan harmonis, akan mampu menghargai dan menghormati sisi kemanusiaan setiap orang. Pembelajaran kooperatif merupakan pilihan yang tepat untuk membangun humanisme dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia. Pendidikan humanisme dalam pembelajaran Bahasa Indonesia dapat direpresentasikan dalam berbagai aspek. Keunggulan pembelajaran kooperatif dapat dilihat dari hasil belajar akademik, penerimaan perbedaan individu, dan pengembangan keterampilan sosial. Keuntungan-keuntungan tersebut dapat membantu siswa dalam memahami konsepkonsep yang sulit. Hal ini dapat dijadikan alat yang efektif untuk mendidik perilaku humanisme kepada para siswa. Dengan demikian, secara makro pembelajaran bahasa Indonesia dapat menanamkan nilai-nilai humanisme yang heterogen ke dalam diri para siswa.

Abstract

This research is aimed at analyzing the use of rhetoric in national online news. Rhetoric is an effective and persuasive speaking or writing. Rhetoric frequently uses exaggerative even bombastic language. The purpose of rhetoric is to obtain particular effect as well as persuade the readers. In online news, rhetoric is used to persuade economically and ideologically. Economically, online news is a market commodity that must be promoted. Ideologically, online news is a domination of institution or others. These purposes influence the language employed in the online media or news online. To gain the objectives, researcher applied descriptive qualitative research. The data were collected from 15 news articles published in CNN Indonesia online news on March 2017. Then, the data were analyzed based on the objective of the study. After compiling the data, the researcher classified rhetorical tropes and news structure in CNN Indonesia. The result shows four types of rhetorical tropes utilized in online news, they are: hyperbole, metonym, metaphor, and neologism. Furthermore, the news structures in CNN Indonesia emphasize on three strategies: providing information that also has an attitudinal and emotional dimension, building strong relational structure for facts, and emphasizing the factual nature of events.
