Abstract

Aquatic resources are one of the natural resources that can be renewed, but if their use is carried out excessively without paying attention to sustainability, it will have a bad impact on the aquatic resources themselves. This study discusses policies related to sea turtle conservation activities, the purpose of this study is to find out the policies that have been made related to sea turtle conservation and its implementation in the field, this is done to realize the sustainability of resources and the aquatic environment. This study was conducted in the Nipah Essential Ecosystem Area (KEE), Malaka Village, North Lombok, West Nusa Tenggara. The existence of this ecosystem area can directly or indirectly help in natural resource conservation activities in the Nipah coastal environment. One of the policies that have been implemented to preserve turtle habitat is by conserving sea turtle habitat, and educational activities on the importance of sea turtles for natural resources and the aquatic environment. Conservation activities carried out in the Nipah Essential Ecosystem Area (KEE) have an implementation score of 100% meaning that policies related to sea turtle conservation in the Nipah Essential Ecosystem Area have been implemented properly, this happens because of the cooperation of various parties between local communities, the TCC (Turtle Conservation Community) community, local governments, and the central government. With a high implementation score, sea turtle habitats will be better preserved, and natural resources and aquatic environments will become sustainable.

Abstract

Vannamei shrimp cultivation in freshwater media is still not optimal. Scabra et al., 2022 stated that the growth of vannamei shrimp reared on media supplemented with CaCO3 was higher than that reared on media without the addition of CaCO. However, it is still lower than the vannamei shrimp reared in seawater media. The addition of other types of minerals is needed to complement CaCO3 in supporting growth. The purpose of this study was to determine the effect of rearing vaname shrimp on low-salinity media with the addition of CaCO3 and MgSO4 ratios with different doses. The treatment in the study was the addition of CaCO3 : MgSO4 with different ratios, namely 40:0 (P2), 40:20 (P3), 40:40 (P4), and 40:60 (P5). A treatment was also applied which was a positive control, namely the rearing of vannamei shrimp in seawater media (P1). The results showed that the best specific growth values were P1 (3.83%), P4 (3.64%), P5 (3.5%), P3 (3.46%), and P2 (3.42%) ). In fresh water rearing, P4 was the best treatment which resulted in a survival rate of 77%, a specific weight growth rate of 3.64%, and a specific length growth rate of 2.14%. Shrimp growth in fresh water media is still not as high as maintenance in seawater media. Therefore, it is still necessary to add other types of minerals that can support growth.

Abstract

The Meninting Watershed (DAS) covers several areas in West Lombok Regency, Mataram City and a small part of North Lombok Regency. Characteristics of a very steep topographic watershed (DAS) triggers landslides. Landslide is the process of moving rock and soil masses from high places to lower places under the influence of gravity. Landslides can cause great physical damage and economic losses, therefore research on landslides is urgently needed. This study aims to identify and map landslide-prone areas in the Meninting Watershed. This study uses a geographic information system (GIS) approach, namely the overlay method (overlapping) and scoring (weighting). Some of the parameters used to assess the level of landslide vulnerability are slope, soil type, land cover rainfall and geological aspects. The level of landslide vulnerability is divided into 3 namely low, medium and high. The results showed that an area of 2,411.42 ha or around +20% of the area of the Meninting Watershed is a high-level landslide-prone area. The area that is included in the medium-level landslide-prone category is around 7,010.03 ha or + 57% of the Meninting Watershed area. Bukittinggi Village and Kekait Village, Gunungsari District, have the greatest potential for medium and high scale landslides.

Abstract

Rote Ndao waters are known as a source of diversity of coral reefs in TNP Laut Sawu. Coral reefs in the area suffered considerable damage due to human activities. This study aims to determine the latest health conditions of the coral reef area in the northern region of Rote Island. Data monitoring was carried out using the underwater photo transect (UPT) method at 12 stations in the north of Rote Island. The percentage of coral reef bottom substrate cover was obtained by processing photo data using the Coral Point Count with Excel Extension-CPCe application. In addition, an assessment of the benthic component was also carried out based on the categories of percentage cover of fleshy seaweed, cover of rubble and hard coral.  The results show condition of coral reefs based on percent cover is in the low category with a hard coral (HC) value of 9.02 ± 7.16%. The highest average value of hard coral cover was found at the Tesabela station. The three highest mean values for the bottom substrate cover type at the observation sites were dead coral with algae (DCA) 32.91 ± 19.5%; Algae assemblage (FS) 17.50 ± 19.27% and Sand (S) 17.43 ± 8.91%. The health condition of coral reefs based on the benthic component shows that the coral reef ecosystem is in a damaged condition and it is difficult to recover if it is disturbed. Necessary to carry out good and efficient management in the future, namely by reducing human activities without causing damage to coral reefs and finding ways for the community to continue to benefit economically from coral reef areas in the Sewu Marine National Park.

Abstract

Raja Ampat Islands have been designated as a Marine Nature Reserve (SAP) since 2014, and community activity in these waters remains high for tourism, fishing and sea transportation activities. All of these activities have the potential to suppress the condition of the coral reefs there. Therefore, it is necessary to evaluate the effectiveness of zoning in terms of social and ecological indicators. This research was conducted using the Underwater Visual Census (UVC) method for coral reef fish and the Underwater Photo Transect (UPT) method for coral cover at a depth of 5-7 m. The set critical threshold value is used to evaluate the success of the zoning taken by interviewing fishermen. The results of the study found that the core zone had unfavorable conditions compared to the other zones. Based on an analysis of ecological indicators, the percentage of coral cover was only 20.9% and an abundance of reef fish of 28 ind/m2. The results of the social analysis of the community, Waisilip Village has the lowest level of compliance with a value of 56%. Meanwhile, 77% of respondents agree with zoning, and only 19% understand the zoning management system. The management of SAP Raja Ampat can be said to be effective by taking into the ecological and social indicators of the community. Increase in the percentage of coral cover in the core zone (0.2%), utilization zone (3.9%), sustainable fisheries zone (0.8%) and cultivation zone (5.7%). Most fishermen have good insight and concern for coral reefs and other aquatic resources.
