Abstract

The study was undertaken to investigate the use of cow as draught power in soil cultivation of the different type of farming field namely paddy farming field and dry farming field. Ten cows (5 working pairs) were randomly selected from each location so that the total number of obsevation cows was 20 (10 pairs). From each location, 45 breeders were randomly selected as respondents, so that a total of 90 respondents was observed intensively. The results showed, that the main motives recorded from this study are all respondents (100%), both paddy field farmers and dry field farmers, raising cattle for a source of labor and for savings. Most of the farmers raise cattle also for the purpose of being a source of fertilizer (88% of respondents). Cows in dry field farming worked with heigher intensity then those worked on paddy field farming areas. Cows were employed in average 48 days/season and only 4 hours/day, each under 49,60 kg droaugt load, 45 HP draught power, and 45,57 kg draught force, which indicate that the use of cows as a draught animal power in soil cultivation at the transmigration site in the West Nusa Tenggara area is within sub maximal exercise.

Abstract

Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) is an illness that is brought about by the dengue virus and transmitted through female Aedes aegypti mosquitoes.  The majority of repellents that are available in the market contain hazardous synthetic chemicals, including N,N-diethyl-meta-toluamide (DEET). Isoamyl acetate and saponins, which have the potential to repel insects, are present in the extract of kepok banana peel. The aim of this research was to ascertain the level of protective ability, Effective Time 50% (ET50), Effective Concentration 50% (EC50), physical stability and irritation effect of kepok banana peel ethanol extract lotion. The methodology utilized in this study adheres to the World Health Organization Pesticides Evaluation Scheme (WHOPES) guidelines and employs a randomized design approach. The level of protection provided by the ethanol extracts from kepok banana peels was assessed through a one-way ANOVA, followed by the BNT 5% test and probit analysis. Based on the findings, it was discovered that the concentration levels of 12,5%, 25%, and 50% provided a protective ability of 22,91%, 59,78%, and 80,30%, correspondingly, with an EC50 value of 27,80% and ET50 observed at the 11th minute. This lotion exhibits excellent physical stability and does not elicit any skin irritation. To conclude, the lotion containing ethanol extract from kepok banana peel has the potential to serve as an Aedes aegypti mosquito repellent. However, there is a need for probandus criteria based on age, gender and skin type in future studies.

Abstract

Soybean is one of the important food commodities in Indonesia which occupies the third position after rice and corn. In 2020, soybean production reached 632.3 tons but decreased by 3.01% to 613.3 tons in 2021 and is predicted to continue to decline until 2024. Whitefly (Bemisia tabaci) is one of the important pests on soybeans. which is also a viral vector. The purpose of this study was to obtain refugia plants which were effective in suppressing the whitefly pest population on soybeans. The study was carried out using a Randomized Block Design (RAK) with 5 treatments and repeated 3 times so that there were 15 experimental units. The treatment used 4 types of refugia plants, namely: R1 = yellow kenikir flower, R2 = orange kenikir flower, R3 = Zinnia elegans paper flower, R4 = Tagetes erecta flower, and R0 = Control (soybean plant without refugia block). The results showed that the four types of refugia affected the whitefly pest population but were not significantly different in each treatment and had no effect on the intensity of the whitefly pest attack. There are 7 species of natural enemies of whitefly consisting of 6 species of predators and 1 species of parasitoid. Most predators come from the order Coleoptera.
