Abstract

Effective processing of young corn and sorghum silage can be evaluated based on physical attributes like fragrance, colour, texture, and the properties and transformations that happen in the feed during the ensiling process. These attributes can be employed to assess and establish the quality of the feed. The purpose of this research is to determine the characteristics of young corn and sorghum silage by conducting pH testing and organoleptic analysis. The study used three types of silage: P1 - young corn, P2 - sorghum, and P3 - a mix of young corn and sorghum. The variables examined included colour, aroma, texture, presence of fungi, and pH. The data indicates that the silage produced from young corn and sorghum plants was of high quality. The feed before the silage production process was the same shade, and the end product had a sour scent. Texture-wise, the majority of the silage was slightly rough and not slimy, with no signs of fungal contamination. The pH ranged from 3.63-3.92, confirming the silage's acidic nature. Silage made from young corn and sorghum plants exhibits organoleptic qualities such as a brownish-green hue, mildly fragrant aroma, slightly mushy consistency, and no detected presence of fungus. Moreover, due to its acidic properties resulting from the pH value, it is highly conducive for the proliferation of lactic acid bacteria.

Abstract

Malaria is one of the main public health problems in Indonesia. Anopheles sp. mosquito larvae is vector of malaria that must be treated before it develops into a mosquito. Control of larvae by using larvicides containing hazardous chemicals causes side effects on the environment and resistance. This study aimed to determine the effect of giving the Arabika Coffee (Coffea arabica L.) pulp extracts on the mortality of Anopheles sp. larvae. Arabika coffee pulp extracts was fractionated with polar, semi-polar and non-polar. This study used ten larvae of Anopheles sp. Observations of larval mortality were carried 24 hours with five concentration series (0, 125, 250, 500, and 1000 ppm). The results of the mortality test showed that non-polar fraction of Arabika coffee pulp extracts had the highest larvicidal activity with values of LC50 and LC90, 278 ppm and 22950 ppm. In semi-polar and polar fractions, the LC50 and LC90, 1718 and 92683 ppm, 34085 and 40862 ppm were obtained. The results of compound analysis obtained 16 active compounds from non-polar extract of arabika coffee pulp with the five highest compounds, namely Hexadecanoic acid, 9,12-Octadecadienoic 15-Octadecenoic acid, Octadecanoic acid and 3-Furanacetic acid. Non-polar fraction of arabika coffee pulp extracts had larvicidal activity against Anopheles sp.

Abstract

Diversity Of Coleoptera Order Soil Insects In Kerandangan Nature Park Area TWA Kerandangan is a conservation area located in West Nusa Tenggara Province. There are types of plants and animals in TWA Kerandangan that show acceptable and stable ecosystem conditions based on the role of insects. One type of insect that plays a role in the balance of the ecosystem is soil insects because they are considered good organic matter breakers. The order of soil insects that has a valuable role in the ecosystem is Coleoptera-decomposing wildlife feces. Analysis of their diversity is very important for the sustainability of the ecosystem in Kerandangan TWA. The research method used was pitfall trapping. The diversity level of the Coleoptera diurnal group is included in the low category because it has an average index value of 0.93, and the level of diversity of the Coleoptera nocturnal group is included in the medium category because it has an average index value of 1.34. The dominance index value is < 0.50, which indicates that no species dominates at each station, and the level of evenness is in the low to high category. The most common Coleoptera species found is Onthophagus sp 4, and Onthopagus taurus belongs to the dung beetle group (Scarabaeidae).

Abstract

Self harm is also called Non-Suicidal Self-Injury (NSSI). NSSI is defined as intentional self-injurious behavior to cause minor bodily harm without suicidal intent. Self-harm is strongly associated with suicidal thoughts and approximately 27-30% of adolescents with NSSI have reported suicide attempts. Based on the explanation above, the author is interested in discussing self-harm and suicide to explore the definition and management of self-harm and suicidal behavior in adolescents. In writing this literature review, we used a literature study method from various references and focused on discussions about self-harm and suicide. The search engines used were PubMed, ProQuest, and Google Scholar with the keywords "Self harm and suicide", "Epidemiology", "Diagnosis", and "Management". Overall, there were 30 articles used as references for preparing the literature review. The results of the investigation showed that self-harm and suicide are mental problems that often occur in teenagers and therefore require appropriate management using non-pharmacological and pharmacological medical approaches.

Abstract

As a genetic resource, local rice can provide insight into the inheritance of favorable traits. Local rice varieties have naturally been tested for resistance to pests and diseases, high yields, good rice quality (including class 1 quality), and a taste that people like, but also have some disadvantages, such as long life and high plant height that easily collapses. For this reason, the characteristics of local rice varieties that have these advantages are improved using the gamma-ray induced mutation technique. Before planting in the field, it is necessary to test the vigor and viability of local rice genotypes (Oryza sativa L.) Padang Pariaman seeds first. In this study, researchers used three different rice varieties, namely: "Madang Pulau", "Putiah Papanai", and "Banang Kuniang" and gamma irradiation, with radiation doses of 0, 100, 200, 300, 400, 500, and 600 Gy. Based on the results of the study, the local rice seed varieties of Padang Pariaman Regency and the dose of gamma irradiation had a significant effect on maximum germination, while germination speed, germination capacity, vigor index, and growth uniformity were significantly affected by the dose of gamma irradiation. Gamma irradiation with doses of 400-600 Gy resulted in a more significant decrease in seed vigor and viability compared to irradiation with doses of 100-300 Gy.

Abstract

Ectopic pregnancy is a pregnancy that occurs when the gestational sac is located outside the uterus. Methotrexate administered intramuscularly (IM) is the standard management in the therapy of ectopic pregnancies. The success of managing ectopic pregnancies using methotrexate is influenced by various factors. This literature review aims to provide related information because a sufficient understanding of the factors that affect the success of methotrexate use in ectopic pregnancies is crucial to prevent complications, reduce morbidity and mortality rates resulting from ectopic pregnancies. In this literature review we conducted a search on the National Center for Biotechnology Information (NCBI) and Google Scholar database using the search keyword factors, methotrexate, and ectopic pregnancy. The success of treating ectopic pregnancies using methotrexate is influenced by various factors, such as the initial β-hCG levels, the size of the ectopic mass, peritoneal fluid, maternal age, gestational age, previous spontaneous miscarriage, gravida, parity, abortion, and the percentage of a history of previous ectopic pregnancies. However, most studies have found that the primary factor influencing success is the initial β-hCG levels.

Abstract

Feed is an important component in fish farming. The availability of local raw materials as an alternative material for making feed is very important to replace flour which is expensive. one of them is by utilizing fermented lemna flour as the main ingredient in making vegetable feed. With the fermentation process in raw materials, it can increase digestibility, storage capacity and increase the nutritional value of food and break down indigestible materials such as cellulose and hemicellulose into simple sugars. This study aims to determine the growth rate, efficiency of use of apakn and survival rate for red tilapia by feeding fermented lemna flour. The fish used in this research is red tilapia with a size of 3-5 cm and kept for 30 days. Ad libitum feeding. Treatment of fermented lemna flour consisted of 3 treatments : treatment A (without fermented lemna flour), B (fermented lemna flour 5%) and C (fermented lemna flour 10%). The data observed were  growth rate (RGR), feed  efficiency (EPP) and survival rate. The results showed that treatment C gave the best average value at RGR of 0.00677% / day, EPP of 0.00682% and survival rate of 100%.
