Abstract

Systemic lupus erythematosus (SLE) is a chronic autoimmune inflammatory disease that can damage organs and cells due to autoantibodies and immune complexes bound to tissue. Infection is a major source of co-morbid in patients with SLE. The infection has been the second major cause of death in SLE, after disease activity itself. Perianal abscess is part of anorectal abscess which can occur in patients that have a risk factor of trauma on the anorectal region. Management of the patient consists of non-operative and operative procedures. In SLE patients that undergo the operative procedure, it is necessary to do perioperative preparation to prevent post-operative complications such as "flare-up" condition due to SLE. Evaluation of medicines and adjustment of glucocorticoid dosage based on the risk of surgery is important in perioperative preparation.

Abstract

Aedes aegypti is known to be a major vector for dengue hemorrhagic fever. Vector control involves repellent usage. Synthetic repellent is known to be corrosive and natural repellent might be safer and more environmentally friendly. Ocimum basilicumstem and leaves contains essential oil with bioactivity against Aedes aegypti. This research aims to analyze the bioactivity of repellent from Ocimum basilicum n-hexane extract and demonstrate the effective concentration (EC90) against Aedes aegypti. This research was designed as experimental complete random design research. Aedes aegypti was supplied by Laboratorium Entomologi, Lokalitbang P2B2, Baturaja, South Sumatra. The repellent activity was tested according to repellent test guideline and Standardized Household Pesticide Efficacy Test Protocol (Metode Standar Pengujian Efikasi Pestisida Rumah Tangga). Every extract was diluted to 15%, 25%, and 35% using 96% ethanol and applied to black cloth that was fixed against the wall of test cage. Negative control was provided using 96% ethanol and positive control was achieved with 13% DEET (brand X repellent). Repellent activity was analyzed using one-way ANOVA and Probit test. EC90 was achieved at 45.13%. N-hexaneextract from basil stem and leaves therefore proven as effective against Aedes aegypti.

Abstract

The latest approach in tissue engineering techniques is the use of deselularized native organ as scaffolds for organ reconstruction. Scaffolds made from natural or synthetic matrix have many shortcomings in providing ideal extracellular matrix microstructure for cell proliferation and differentiation. Deselularized native scaffold can maintain the extracellular matrix of native organs, as an ideal microstructure scaffold for cell proliferation and differentiation. This technique answers the challenge of high need for liver transplants due to the limitations of liver donors and the need as liver models for drug testing.for drug testing. Liver is a complex organ, so ideal microstructure is needed in liver organoid reconstruction techniques to produce good synthetic and metabolic functions of the liver

Abstract

Intussusceptions, defined as insertion of proximal part of intestine into distal one, it is the second most common acute abdomen pathology after appendicitis. Acute intussusception is one of the common causes of acute intestinal obstruction in children, but on seldom occasions associated with leading points to the intussusceptions. The symptoms are the result of intussusception, like intestinal obstruction, volvulus due to subserosa lipoma and hemorrhage due to ulcerations of the overlying mucosa caused by direct pressure from the lipoma or the intussusception itself. Intussusception in adults is very rare. Most intussusception cases must be treated surgically. In patients who present with a vague history and constellation of abdominal symptoms pointing towards obstruction and are found to have a short segment intussusception, it is a valid option to apply a conservative approach with caution. Based on the available literature, CT scan evaluation seems to have both diagnostic and prognostic value, as it provides enough evidence with regards to signs indicating the need for surgery. Herewith, we describe a rare case of intussusception in Indonesian adult which was successfully treated non-surgically

Abstract

Multiple primary cancer is diagnosed if multiple cancerous lesions appear in one or more organs in a person either simultaneously or at different times. Differentiating it from metastases, or recurrent cancer is a difficulty and a challenge that must be faced considering that the prognosis of multiple primary cancers is considered to be better if diagnosed correctly. Vaginal cancer is the second primary that should be considered in cervical cancer patients, especially those who have undergone radiation therapy. Treatment of multiple vaginal cancer with cervical cancer is very dependent on the individual considering the limited number of cases is still a limitation in the treatment of these patients, with various therapies in the form of radiation, a combination of surgery with radiation, chemotherapy, and a combination of surgery with chemotherapy.

Abstract

Pituitary tumors are benign tumors that occur in the pituitary gland with a presentation of 10% of all intracranial tumors. If the size of the tumor is 1 cm, the pituitary tumor is called a macroadenoma, the large size will have a mass effect so that there is an emphasis on the tumor area and its surroundings. This emphasis will manifest in hyposecretion of the hormones produced in the pituitary. We report a case of 57-year-old male with complaints of decreased vision since 3.5 months. The patient had previously been diagnosed with a pituitary tumor 6 years ago and had surgery. After diagnostic steps, the patient is diagnosed with a residual pituitary adenoma tumor with hypocortisol and hypothyroidism. Hormone replacement therapy was performed by administering methilprednisolone tablets 16 mg-0-8 mg and levothyroxine tablets 1 x 50 g. The patient was planned to undergo an Endoscopic Endonasal Excision Tumor surgery with 125 mg/12 hour preoperative injection of methilprednisolon. The provision of preoperative hormone replacement therapy aims to correct hormonal imbalances that can be an intraoperative complication

Abstract

Blood transfusion is one of the methods to treat anemia and packed red blood cells (PRC) are the most widely used blood component. Post transfusion results showed that increment of hemoglobin (Hb) does not always match the amount of PRC given. This is thought to be due to the recipient's immune reaction to the PRC component. Leukoreduction is an action to reduce leukocytes from the PRC component thereby reducing the risk of an immune reaction. Alternatively, another method called washed PRC can also be used. In this study, the researcher studied the effectivity of leukoreduction and washed PRC on Hb increase in post-transfusion anemia patients compared with the usual PRC. The researcher used a pre-test post-test group design method of 60 people who were divided into 3 groups (ordinary PRC, washed PRC, leukofiltered PRC). The results showed all three groups reached the transfusion target (a 75% increase in Hb) and there were no differences among the groups both in terms of achievement of the Hb target and the incidence of side effects. There were no differences in the success of transfusion and incidence of side effects among the three groups.
