As the pioneering pedagogical instrument in Second Language Acquisition (SLA), translation has been securing its place in the academic discourse about SLA. However, confusion over the definition of pedagogical translation has been brought by the rise of translation studies. Besides, the attitude of SLA scholars toward the use of translation in language classroom has evidently changed overtime. This article seeks to reassess the theoretical position of translation in SLA and in translation studies, as well as to examine the current practice of pedagogical translation in SLA classroom. Based on the analysis results, translation is theoretically divided into pedagogical translation (translation as a means) and real translation (translation as an end). Both are regarded as different and independent activities, but they are connected and related at some levels in the practice. As for the current practice of pedagogical translation in SLA, it is found that the recent trend for pedagogical translation is integration with other method such as audiovisual and technology which shows that translation is still relevant to today’s SLA context that it continues being innovated.

The emergence of the 4.0 era requires the world of education to adapt to technology. Practicing and learning English can take the advantage of the sophisticated technology, especially applications that can be downloaded from students' smart phone. Students acknowledge that English learning done in the classroom is easy for them to forget because it is rarely used in everyday life. Practices done in the classroom do not have enough time for all students to speak English, and students are less motivation to speak English outside the classroom. Dengar Keluhan Pohon Mangga (DKPM) is the story written by Maria Amin during the Japanese colonial era. The author uses the metaphor of "mango tree" to escape Japanese censorship to be published so that there are many hidden meanings in this short story. This study aimed to determine the author's unconscious condition through the language used by using Lacan's psychoanalytic theory. This study used a qualitative research method with a poststructuralism approach using Lacan's psychoanalysis. The data source of this research is a document, namely the short story DKPM by Maria Amin. The sampling technique used purposive sampling. In this study, the data were obtained through document analysis, and then the data were analyzed according to Lacan's psychoanalytic theory, which begins by describing the life of the author - in this case, is Maria Amin - to understand his work. After that, he explained the characters of the characters in the DKPM short stories. Furthermore, the analysis was focused on the short stories' language, which can be seen through the metaphor and metonymy phenomena in this short story. In this way, it will be seen how the author's subconscious is filled with a sense of lack and loss, so that the desire to cover up the deficiency appears. The results showed that the short story DKPM is a short story that reflects the writer's unconscious condition. It can be seen in the short stories he wrote that the Indonesian nation was expressed metaphorically by using the word "mango tree", the Japanese nation as "areca tree", and the Dutch nation as "the man". In this short story, the mango tree (the Indonesian nation) is on lacks condition. So that there is a desire to gain recognition for its existence as a subject.

Naming is a specific linguistic act, intimately linked with values, traditions, hopes, fears and events in people’s lives. Names reveal the many preferences of their owners (or givers) in terms of real life objects, actions, features and beliefs. Place names provide the most useful geographical reference system in the world. The topic of names is a multidisciplinary field that has occupied the attention of philosophers of language, anthropologists, linguists and ordinary people. In this study, I try to analyze the names of meeting rooms in the East Java Governmental Building. The reason to choose this object is because the East Java Governmental Building is the center of government/ administration in East Java. This study aims to find out the kinds of names applied in the naming of meeting rooms in the East Java Governmental Building and the presuppose reasons behind the name chosen of the East Java Governmental Building. This study is a qualitative study. Based on the classification of the data, they were classified to two groups: the names of governors in East Java and the names of the kings or military chief of great kingdoms in East Java. The meeting rooms in the governmental building of East Java are named after important people in the history of the province. To conclude, the administration named all the meeting rooms, as the most important rooms in the building to welcome guests, using the name of people who have big influence and involvement in the history of East Java so that it has roots to its history.

Reading as one of the skills constructing English competency has a special portion in the curriculum of English studies programs at higher education institutions. The prevalent purpose of reading classes is to enable students to grasp knowledge from any type of text written in English. This skill could be achieved through learning a series of techniques and strategies in reading, and most importantly extensive reading activities. However, the fact that the class weights as much as 2 credits (SKS) does not give sufficient training time to achieve the maximum target. Hence, an out-of-class activity should be imposed, such as reading portfolio. This paper seeks to address the criteria of a good reading portfolio, as well as the strengths and weaknesses of this supplementary reading activity given to the students of the English Education program of IAIN Purwokerto. The data are collected through documenting the findings of previous researches on the criteria of a good reading portfolio, interviewing student-sample, and observing the process of reading portfolio given to the students of IAIN Purwokerto. The results showed that a reading portfolio should contain the purpose of the course, the text liked and picked by the students, clear scoring criteria, and continuous evaluation. The strengths of reading portfolio are evoking students’ interest for reading, instilling reading habit, and promoting learning autonomy and self-evaluation, the weaknesses are lack of resources, complex vocabulary and structure, and less motivation.
