Abstract

The Simargaolgaol (Aglaonema modestum Schott ex Engl) plant is a plant that grows wild in Barus District, Central Tapanuli, North Sumatra which is used by the community as a medicinal plant. This study aims to determine the antibacterial activity of n-hexane, ethyl acetate and ethanol extracts from Simargaolgaol leaves against Escherichia coli and Salmonella typhi bacteria. The antibacterial activity test of Simargaolgaol leaves was carried out using the disc diffusion method. The results of antibacterial activity showed that the highest inhibitory power of Simargaolgaol leaf extract was ethanol extract (polar), ethyl acetate extract (semi polar) and n-hexane extract (non polar). The inhibitory power of ethanol extract, ethyl acetate, and n-hexane against Escherichia coli bacteria was 13.1 mm (strong); 9.7 mm (medium); 8.0 mm (medium) and for Salmonella typhi bacteria respectively 11.2 mm (strong); 10.7 mm (strong) and 9.3 mm (medium). With the concentration of the extract in the diameter is 10%. Based on this, it can be concluded that Simargaolgaol leaf extract has potential as an antibacterial.Keywords: Aglaonema modestum Schott ex Engl, Antibacterial activity, Escherichia coli, Salmonella typhi

Abstract

Abstrak. Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk mengetahui hasil belajar siswa dalam topik kelarutan dan hasil kali kelarutan  dengan menggunakan metode pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing  dengan Macromedia Flash media. Populasi penelitian ini adalah seluruh siswa kelas dua di RSBI SMA Negeri 2 Kisaran. Sampel adalah dua kelas yang dipilih dengan metode random sampling. Kelas eksperimen diajarkan dengan metode pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing dengan Macromedia Flash media dan kelas kontrol diajarkan dengan metode konvensional. Instrumen penelitian adalah tes hasil belajar yang distandarisasi oleh validator ahli dan validitas empiris. Data dianalisis dengan Microsoft Excel untuk Windows 2003. Hasil tes distandarisasi dan diperoleh 20 butir  soal yang valid dengan reliabilitas 0,937. Pengaruh metode pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing dengan Macromedia Flash media untuk meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa diperoleh dari kemampuan siswa untuk menjawab pertanyaan-pertanyaan sebelum perlakuan mengajar (pre test) dan setelah perlakuan mengajar (post test) dan data yang digunakan untuk mengetahui gain ternormalisasi. Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa data distribusi normal dan sampel homogen. Kelas eksperimen yang diajarkan dengan metode pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing dengan Macromedia Flash media dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa dalam kategori tinggi (0.78 ± 0,0940) dan kelas kontrol yang diajarkan dengan metode konvensional dapat meningkatkan hasil belajar siswa dalam kategori sedang (0.59 ± 0,1124). Analisis statistik menunjukkan  thitung (7.6454) > ttabel (1.6593). Jadi, dapat disimpulkan bahwa hasil belajar siswa yang diajarkan dengan metode pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing dengan Macromedia Flash media lebih tinggi dibandingkan dengan metode konvensional. Selain itu, aspek kognitif yang dikembangkan dengan penerapan metode pembelajaran inkuiri terbimbing dengan Macromedia Flash media adalah C2, C3 dan C4. Tingkat aspek kognitif adalah C2 (Pemahaman), C3 (Aplikasi) dan C4 (Analisis). Rata-rata gain yang ternormalisasi adalah C2 (0.92, kategori tinggi), C3 (0,84, kategori tinggi), dan C4 (0.74, kategori tinggi). Abstract

Abstract:            Research on antimicrobial and toxicity tests of flavonoid total Dendrophthoe pentandra (L) Miq from false ashoke tree (Polyalthia longifolia) have been done. This study aims to determine the activity of toxicity of total flavonoid of Dendrophthoe pentandra (L) Miq as mistletoe of false ashoke tree (P. longifolia) based on Brine Shrimp Lethality Test (BSLT) method using Artemia salina Leach shrimp larvae obtained Lethal Concentration (LC50) of 30.06 mg / L which means strong toxic activity. Antimicrobial test of flavonoid total has used the diffusion method in order to obtain the inhibit zone diameter on Streptococcus mutans at the total flavonoids concentration of 3%, 6% and 9% were 6; 9 and 17.25 mm, in Escherichia coli is 3.55; 4.25 and 9.15 mm and at Candida albicans is 8.30; 4 and 5.30 mm where S. mutans and E. coli are greater but C. albicans less affect but still have good inhibitory activity so effective to be developed as  antimicrobial agents.Keywords:false ashoke leaves, antimicrobial, toxicity, diffusion and BSLT

Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to obtain innovative and interactive teaching materials integrated scientific approach and involves a web-based information technology. This type of research, including research and development (research and development). Subjects were subject thermochemical teaching materials. Meanwhile, the sample used in this study consisted of 20 students majoring in chemistry chemistry education courses of the Faculty of Mathematics and Natural Sciences, University of Medan and 3 lecturers basic courses at the State University of Medan. Selection of the sample using purposive sampling technique. The results of chemical analysis of teaching materials common is that the teaching materials are quite valid, but need to be developed from various aspects. Teaching materials that have been developed validated by expert validator. Assessment is done based on a standard questionnaire BSNP (National Education Standards Agency). Based on research data obtained an average of 23 respondents think that consists of 3 professors and 20 students on the quality of teaching materials developed 3.49  belonging to the criteria of a very valid means of the development of teaching materials is very feasible for use in learning. Elaboration of the overall average respondent to the quality of teaching materials developed are the average results of the assessment of General Chemistry lecturers in the amount of 3.66 and an average student assessment results Chemistry education that is equal to 3.31. Abstract

This study discusses development of paired cards using problem based learning model on learning outcomes and students critical thinking skills on the oxidation reduction reactions. This study aims to find out learning outcomes and critical thinking students who taught with problem based learning model using paired cards. The populations were all students of class X MIA in High School, which consists of eight classes with a total number of students 296 students. The sample was taken by random sampling techniques is experimental class and control class. Students in experimental class were taught using problem based learning model, while control class were taught using direct instruction model. The results showed that average for the student learning outcomes 75.16 for experimental class and 70.63 for control class. The average students critical thinking skills were 40.17% for experimental class and 31.49% for control class. The student learning outcomes and critical thinking skills use problem based learning models with paired card was higher than the direct instruction model on the reduction oxidation reaction. There is a positive correlation between learning outcomes and students critical thinking skills.Keywords: Paired cards; problem based learning; oxidation reduction reaction

Abstract

Abstract.Chitosan Schiff base (BS) was synthesized through reaction of chitosan with salycilaldehyde, next, chitosan Schiff base (BS) reacted with Fe to form Fe-chitosan Schiff base complex (BSF). The presence of Schiff base confirmed by FT-IR at 1604,77 cm-1 for imine group. Chitosan soluble in acidic solution while chitosan Schiff base partially dissolve. Subsequently, absorption of Fe was determine with ICP-MS at 1, 2, 3, 4, 5 hours (BSF 1, BSF2, BSF 3, BSF 4, BSF 5) resulting 269,98, 289, 311,8, 361,06, 492,51 ppm. Abstract

This research is a quantitative study which aims to determine the results differences of the 2nd National Chemistry Olympiad at the public and private senior high school using quizizz media. All participants of the population were sampled in the determination, the sampling technique used was saturated samples. The results of the prerequisite test on the data from this study showed that the data were normally and homogeneous. For normality and homogeneity tests, obtained sig > 0.05. Data analysis using SPSS 24, carried out One Way Anova test, obtained sig.0.01 with a significance level of 5%, these results indicate that there are differences in the results of the 2nd National Chemistry Olympiad (OKN) level is low, the public high school participants results with an average score of 59.48 and private high schools with an average score of 41.95 by utilizing Quizizz media.Keywords: Chemistry, Olympics, Learning, Quizizz

Abstract

Abstract The Research on application of cooperative learning to play the answer has been done to improve student achievement on the subject of colloid in class XI IPA SMAN 5 Pekanbaru on May 20th until June 05th. Form of research is experimental research with pretest-posttest design. The sample consist of two class, namely class XI IPA 5 as the experimental class and class XI IPA as control class which randomly selected after had tested normality and homogeneity. Experimental class is a class that implemented cooperative learning model playing the answers while the control class used discussion information methods. Data analysis technique used is the t-test. Based on the results of the final data processing using t-test formula obtained tcount>ttable (3,042 > 1,67) means the application of cooperative learning model playing the answers can improve student achievement on the subject of colloids in class XI IPA SMAN 5 Pekanbaru, with an increasing percentage of 11,5 % .Keywords :     Playing Answer, Cooperative Learning, Learning Achievement, Colloid

Abstract

Penelitian ini dilakukan untuk mengetahui sejauhmana peran implementasi Virtual Chemistry Laboratory terintegrasi smartphone pada model pembelajaran Advance organizer untuk meningkatkan kemandirian dan  hasil belajar siswa. Sampel penelitian ini adalah siswa kelas X semester I SMA Negeri 1 Pematang Raya diambil sebanyak 2 kelas dengan 2 (dua) kelompok perlakuan. Instrumen digunakan tes hasil belajar (r11 = 0,802) dan lembar observasi kemandirian, Teknik analisa data menggunakan uji–T dan uji korelasi. Hasil penelitian diperoleh: (1) Hasil belajar siswa yang dibelajarkan dengan implementasi virtual chemistry laboratory terintegrasi smartphone lebih tinggi dibandingkan hasil belajar siswa yang dibelajarkan tanpa implementasi virtual chemistry laboratory pada model pembelajaran advance organizer (2) Kemandirian siswa yang dibelajarkan dengan implementasi virtual chemistry laboratory terintegrasi smartphone lebih tinggi dibandingkan kemandirian siswa tanpa implementasi virtual chemistry laboratory pada model pembelajaran advance organizer(3) Terdapat hubungan yang signifikan kemandirian dan hasil belajar siswa yang dibelajarkan dengan implementasi virtual chemistry laboratory terintegrasi smartphone.Kata kunci: advance organizer, virtual chemistry laboratory

Abstract

Abstract. This study aims to determine the increase in students learning outcomes that learned using problem based learning models using media exe learning on hydrocarbon material and correlation between the contribution of teamwork activies to improve student learning outcomes. The population all students of class X SMA Negeri 11 Medan with 8 classes. The sample taken two classes namely one class as the experimental class I who got teaching model of problem based learning using media exe learning and the  experimental class II who got teaching model of problem-based learning without media exe learning. In this study used test instrument and non-test instrumen. The test instrument that used 16 valid questions with the realibility of 0.85. The non-test instrument is used in the form of attitudes observasion sheet with indicator includes participation in learning, involvement and help peers. Based on the hypothesis test with significance level of 0.05 was tcount(4,285) > ttable(1,668). This mean Ha accepted and Ho rejected which showed an increase in student learning outcomes in the eksperimental class I higer than the eksperimental class II. Then the correlation test results indicating a positive correlation between the students teamwork activities with improving student learning outcomes that rcount(0,681) > rtable(0,320) with a coefficient of contribution 46.37%.
