Abstract

This study aimed to describe the need for developing teaching materials based on confident character education, to describe the product design of teaching materials development, and to explain the acceptability of developing teaching materials based on confident character education in order to improve studennts’ reading skills at grade IV. This study was conducted at three elementary schools in Kecamatan Kaliwungu Kudus in November 2020. Teaching materials referred to a set of learning materials/substances (teaching materials) arranged systematically, presenting a complete figure of the competencies that students should master in learning activities. According to Lauster in Ghufron (2011: 36), the aspects contained in self-confidence included: self-belief, optimism, positive attitude, objective, responsible, and rational. Research and development (R & D) method was utilized to develop or validate the products used in education and learning. This teaching material was effective in improving students' reading aloud skills. This was evidenced from the results of the increase in the n-gain index in the experimental class which was higher than the control class. The experimental class experienced an increase in gain of 0.57 in the medium category and the control class by 0.25 in the low category

Abstract

The 21st century is a globalization era in which humans are required to have 21st-century skills, including critical thinking skills and scientific literacy in order to solve problems and make the right decisions. Both skills must be prepared, including biology education students. Several research reports have shown low levels of both skills in biology students. The solution that can overcome these problems is to apply learning following the demands of the 21st century, student-centered collaboration. This study aims to analyze the effect of Project-Based Learning with the Peer Instruction Flipped Type Flipped Classroom design on critical thinking skills and scientific literacy. The subjects of this research were Biology Education students of IKIP Budi Utomo Malang. There were two classes: Class A, which implemented project-based learning with the design of the Flipped Classroom, Peer Instruction Flipped, Experiment, and Class B, which applied the Flipped Classroom with the Peer Instruction Flipped Type. The research instrument was in the form of pretest-posttest questions, critical thinking skills, and scientific literacy. Data analysis of the total value of each strategy using paired t-test. The results showed that the Flipped Classroom Peer Instruction Flipped Type in improving thinking skills and scientific literacy.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the condition that only few activities could be done during this online and long distance learning. As a result, many teachers were unable to make ICT-based learning media, especially power points. It was possible to conduct the training for making power point offline and online. For this reason, in-house training was believed to be helpful for teachers to improve their skills in making power points. This research was a classroom action research conducted at SDN 021 Pendekar Bahan from August to September 2020. The instruments were observation and interview sheets. The results of the study showed that the teachers’ skills in making power points increased. The data showed that the average score in cycle I was 60.85, and it increased to 75.42 in cycle II with good criteria. Based on the research results, it could be concluded that in-house training improved the teachers’ skills in making power point learning media.

Particularly, in this study the focus was peer teaching on the problem-based learning model in which students were trained to solve problems based on the problems presented by the teacher. This research was conducted in October 2019 at SMP Negeri 11 Dumai with 22 teachers as the research subjects. The instrument was the observation sheet used to record teachers’ activity in the classroom. The results showed that the teachers’ pedagogical competence in cycle I was 71.15 with Sufficient category and it increased in cycle II to 81.09 with Good category. Abstract

This study aimed to determine the role of “Belajar dari Rumah” education program broadcasted by TVRI as well as the students’ motivation towards the program to foster students’ learning interest at grade VI SDN 02 Ngetuk. Learning interest refers to a high interest and tendency towards the process of seeking knowledge and honing skills through teaching, training, and experience. Education television is a television program that specifically broadcasts educational programs with the aim to provide students the learning resources in order to assist students in obtaining knowledge and moral contents. This study utilized descriptive qualitative method. The subjects of this study were 10 grade VI students at SDN 02 Ngetuk. Data were collected through interviews and questionnaires, and the data were analyzed through the process of data reduction, data presentation, and verification or drawing conclusions. The results showed that “Belajar dari Rumah” education program had three roles in learning, namely as a source of learning, a source of information, and a source of entertainment. Among the 10 informants, it was obtained that 30% of students used this program as a learning resource and showed a high learning interest, 20% of them used this program as a source of information and showed a moderate learning interest, and 50% of the students used this program as a source of entertainment and showed low learning interest. This indicated that the program did not significantly increase students’ learning interest.

Abstract

The reason for doing this research was the lack of teacher’ ability to design HOTS questions and factors that hindered the teacher in designing mid semester test questions. This research utilized a descriptive method with a qualitative approach. Based on the results of the analysis, it was revealed that 31 items did not fulfill the criteria for developing HOTS (High Order Thinking Skills). This research found that those 31 items contained 0% HOTS and 100% LOTS, indicating that the questions could not measure students' critical thinking skills. Thus, the teacher's ability in designing HOTS (High Order Thinking Skills) questions was categorized as Very Poor, and the teacher needed guidance to design HOT questions.

Abstract

This research was motivated by the learning process which was still dominated by the teacher as a source of knowledge through conventional methods in the form of lecturing; as a result, students became passive during the learning process. Ideally, learning should be able to increase students' understanding about the material and their understanding about the relationship between the material and the student's environment. Referring to these problems, it was necessary to apply a method that helped teachers to improve the learning quality. It was hoped that focus group discussions improved the teachers’ ability to apply contextual learning. This research was a classroom action research. The research was carried out on teachers at SDN 019 Sungai Gantang from February to March 2020. The research subjects were 17 teachers and the instrument was an observation sheet. The results showed that the teachers’ ability to implement contextual learning through focus group discussions increased from 80.25% (with Good category) in cycle I to 84.45% (with Very Good category) in cycle increased II. Based on the results of this research, it was concluded that focus group discussions improved teachers’ ability in implementing contextual learning.
