Abstract

The Corona Virus Disease (COVID-19) outbreak resulted in the changing of learning system from face-to-face learning to online learning. This policy seemed to be inefficient in lecturing since this changing was considered to make it difficult for students to understand the material or, in other words, students could not understand the material optimally. The purpose of this study was to measure the effectiveness of online learning carried out at STKIP Muhammadiyah Batang, so that it was expected to provide contributions and solutions for online learning during the Covid-19 pandemic. This was a qualitative descriptive study by using an online survey method. The primary data collection in this study was carried out by distributing questionnaires online to 30 respondents who were students of PGSD STKIP Muhammadiyah Batang. The students were at semester 2 and semester 4. Online learning at STKIP Muhammadiyah Batang was considered ineffective due to many obstacles experienced by students. Moreover, students expected the mixed learning method (online / face-to-face).

This study was development research involving the stages of a preliminary study, product development, and testing. Validation was one of the stages in a product development. It was carried out by material experts and media experts. The validation results were analyzed by converting quantitative data into qualitative data on a scale of five. The data of the development validation results were in the form of the validity percentage of the interactive multimedia to improve the cognitive abilities of elementary school students. The results of the interactive multimedia validation showed that the mean score of the validation from the media experts was 4.28 which was included in very good category, and the mean score of the validation from material experts was 4.27 which was included in very good category. Experts generally commented that gamebased interactive multimedia was good and interesting and it could be used in the learning activities. Then, the researcher made revisions according to the inputs received from the experts. Improvements in interactive multimedia included adding a button to return to the main menu and the exit button, changing the menu, simplifying the material so that it was not too dense, changing the font size in less readable parts, adding references, moving cartoon characters' feet and hands while walking, and changing evaluation questions.

Abstract

The results of research found that writing official letters was divided into complete and incomplete based on thirteen parts, namely the head, date, number, attachment, subject, objectives, greetings, opening paragraphs, content, closing remarks, concluding paragraph, the letter delivery, and language. Based on these results, the highest percentage was showed in the appendices of the letter in which 81.94% of the students could write the appendix well. Meanwhile, the lowest percentage was achieved on the date with a percentage of 25%. 19 students obtained very high grades (>90) with a percentage of 26.38%. Thus, writing an official letter was included as an ability and skill in writing since writing a good official letter needs a comprehensive attention to the systematics in writing an official letter. Knowledge, skills and abilities in systematic writing should be taken into account because students would be categorized as uncapable to write an official letter without this understanding.
