Abstract

This study aims to improve student learning outcomes on the subject of equations and quadratic inequalities using cooperative model of NHT type. This research is a Classroom Action Research, using Kemmis and Taggart model, which is implemented in three cycles. Data were observed each cycle through learning result test, student and teacher observation, and interview. The data obtained are then analyzed through: data reduction, data presentation and conclusion. The results showed that the application of NHT, the type of cooperative model can improve students' mathematics learning outcomes, especially on the subject of equations and quadratic inequalities. DOI:  https://doi.org/10.30862/jhm.v1i1.733

Abstract

The purpose of this research’s to analyze students interest in mathematical leaning by the matery Grafik Fungsi Kuadrat (Graphs of Quadratic Functions) assisted by GeoGebra sofware. In this research, the researcher used descriptive research method, descriptive research method is the research that generates descriptive data through the percentage of student answers that contain 5 indicators of learning interest scale students by given poll. The population of this research were 28 students of  nineth grade of SMP Bingkai Cendikia Cililin. Research data were collected by using the scale of learning interest of students in GeoGebra sofware assisted with mathematics learning that contains 20 questions each 10 positive and negative questions. The result of the data analysis could be concluded that there is a positive impact on students interest in learning mathematics assisted with GeoGebra sofware. The result of the data analysis showed by the average percentage of answers of students who agree of positive statement’s 49%, then the response of agree average of 67%, and then disagree response’s 10,8%, while for strongly disagreeing responses of 6.5%.

Abstract

This research aimed to improve student’s mathematical understanding through the scientific approach and peer tutor model. This research was classroom action research that was done in 2 cycles. Every cycle divided into 4 parts that were planning, action and observation, and reflection. The subject of this research was students’ grade VIIA MTs Al-Munawwaroh Merauke that consists of 25 students. The technique of data collection was used test observation and questionnaire of students learning motivation. The research result showed that the average of the students increased in every cycle and classical completeness of the cycle I was 64% and cycle II 88% from that result showed that an increase classical of cycle I and cycle II. Students activity increase on cycle I 60% with active category and cycle II obtained 84% with active category and extremely active. Then can be said that the scientific approach and peer teaching model can improve students’ understanding of mathematics class VIIA MTs Al-Munawaroh Merauke. DOI: https://doi.org/10.30862/jhm.v1i2.1044

Abstract

The purpose of this study was to determine the effectiveness of the use of student activity sheet (SAS) based on Higher Level Thinking Skills (HOTS) on learning outcomes of mathematics student. This research is a quantitative, quasi-experimental method using the nonequivalent control group research design. Data collection uses documentation and tests to measure learning outcomes. The data obtained were analyzed statistically using descriptive analysis and inferential analysis. Descriptive analysis includes the mean value and standard deviation. The inferential analysis used in this study is one sample t-test and independent sample t-test. Based on the results of the analysis with a significance level of 5%, it can be concluded that the use of SAS based on Higher Level Thinking Skills (HOTS) is effective on student learning outcomes.

Abstract

Problem-based learning (PBL) has been widely applied as a learning method in mathematics education. This meta-analysis study was conducted to summarize the evidence on the effectiveness of PBL on students' comprehension abilities. An associated database was searched for studies that met the inclusion criteria. The estimation method used a random-effect model with a 95% confidence interval (CI). The study analyzed 35 effect sizes from 22 primary studies published between 2011 and 2020, and for a total of 1993, students were included. The Comprehensive Meta-Analysis (CMA) program was used to assist the analysis. As a result of the study, the overall effect size was 0.790 (moderate effect) with a standard error of 0.181. Analysis of the study characteristics revealed that the application of PBL was more effective in the conditions of the sample size set by 1 - 30 students; lower level of education, and combined with the use of mathematics learning software. These findings become a consideration for mathematics education practitioners for the implementation of PBL in the future.

Abstract

This research is an appreciation of local wisdom of Papuan culture. Various Papuan cultures that have been very united with the Papuan community, such as: Batik Papua, Rumah Kaki Seribu (Traditional House tribe Arfak Mountains), and the habits of eating areca in para-para pinang, are some Papuan cultural products that serve as subjects in this study. The three products of the Papuan culture was analyzed in relation to the mathematical concept so that it becomes a realistic context in this research. The results showed that the three elements of culture can be used as a context in realistic mathematics education in the land of Papua. DOI:  https://doi.org/10.30862/jhm.v1i1.768

Abstract

The purpose of this research to analyze exercise question on Mathematics textbook of senior high school which associated with higher order thinking skills (HOTS). HOTS according to Taxonomy Bloom can be classified into aspect: analysis (C4), evaluate (C5), and Create (C4).  This is a qualitative study using the method of evaluation in education field. The object of this research is exercise questions on mathematics textbook of senior high school used in SMA YPK Oikumene, Manokwari, West Papua. The instrument used to categorize the exercise question is operational verbs (KKO).  Data were analyzed using descriptive data analysis. Furthermore, the result shows that 3.90% question can be categorized as analysis domain, 0.65% questions reach evaluate domain, and there is no question can be group as create domain.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the mathematics problem-solving process of high school students based on multiple intelligences. In research, multiple intelligence is divided into dominant linguistic intelligence, interpersonal and kinesthetic intelligence, dominant musical intelligence, logical-mathematical and naturalistic, existential, intrapersonal, and visual dominant intelligence. The type of research used in this research is descriptive exploratory, and the approach used is qualitative and quantitative approaches. Determination of research subjects was carried out using purposive sampling based on multiple intelligences, to obtain 3 high school students of class X as research subjects. The research instrument used was a multiple intelligence test and two problem-solving tests adopted from the American High School Math Exam (AHSME) Problems and the Provincial High School Mathematics National Science Olympiad questions. The data obtained were analyzed, utilizing data reduction. The research results show that students with multiple different intelligence bits have different ways of solving them, but there are also similarities in solving problems.

Abstract

This Qualitative study aimed to describe the students the mistakes in solving the problems related to cubes and cuboid topics based on Newmann's procedures. To gather the data, three students of primary school teacher department in a university in Kupang, Indonesia, with a high, moderate and low problem – solving skills were chosen to be analyzed further using descriptive method. The result showed that the students with a high problem – solving skill were doing wrong in writing the final answer due to an incomplete understanding of cube and cuboid. The students with a moderate problem – solving skill were doing mistake in transforming the word problems into mathematical expression since the students were not accustomed to do non – routine problem. Furthermore, the students with the low problem – solving skills were doing mistakes in transforming word problems into a mathematical expression, during the process and writing the final answer. The mistake was emerged due to students’ inability to understand the problems and incomplete understanding of the concept of cube and cuboid.
