Abstract

Educational data mining is the process of converting raw data from educational systems to useful information that can be used by educational software developers, students, teachers, parents, and other educational researchers. Fuzzy educational datasets are datasets consisting of uncertain values. The purpose of this study is to develop and test a classification model under uncertainty unique to the modern student. This is done by developing a model of the uncertain data that come from an educational setting with Linear Fuzzy Real data. Machine learning was then used to understand students and their optimal learning environment. The ability to predict student performance is important in a web or online environment. This is true in the brick and mortar classroom as well and is especially important in rural areas where academic achievement is lower than ideal.

Abstract

Higher Order Thinking Skills of students in Indonesia, including students in Papua, are still very low. On the other hand, Papua's nature and culture have the potential to be used as an instrument or context in developing questions that can develop students' Higher Order Thinking Skills (HOTS), especially in mathematics learning. This study aims to create and analyze HOTS questions based on nature and culture. The products developed were HOTS items, with the procedure for determining the context, expanding the items, testing the items' validity, and further analysis. The results showed that HOTS mathematics questions could be developed using Papua's Nature and Culture context. These results contribute to inspiring educators and other researchers to establish HOTS questions based on Papua's nature and culture, both in mathematics and other subjects.

Abstract

The study aims to identify kinds of high school students’ misrepresent in doing their tasks and to provide the appropriate scaffolding as a solution to help the students. This is a qualitative descriptive research. The research subject consists of three junior high school students who have different abilities in Mathematics. They were selected out of 92 students. This research studied the conceptual errors, procedural mistakes, and students’ technical mistakes in working on the problems based on the stages of Kastolan mistakes and the scaffoldings given. Furthermore, the data were collected by using the way of testing, interviewing and documenting techniques. The research data were guarantee validated with the triangulation method. The result of the research showed that there were some errors done by the students in doing the tasks. They were the conceptual errors, procedural mistakes, and technical errors. The scaffoldings given to help the students do the tasks for Level 1 (environmental provisions), Level 2 (explaining, reviewing dan restructuring), and Level 3 (developing conceptual thinking).

Abstract

This research aim to develop the media of mathematics teaching using lectora inspire software in proportion material. This research was conducted as the research development, such as: visual aspect and audio, languages, the effect of use teaching strategies and material aspect. This research was involved the media expert, material expert and students’ response to conduct the research. Totally the media was developed showing the excellent criteria, it is 97% score based on the media expert and 86% based on the material expert. Based on the student responses, it shows 76% as the good criteria. So that why, the researcher can be concluded that this media gave a positive effect for the user, based on the results of students with 74% score and it can be as the alternative media to conduct teaching learning process. DOI:  https://doi.org/10.30862/jhm.v1i1.769

Abstract

This study aims to describe students' mistakes in solving rectangular problems based on their cognitive development. This research is a descriptive qualitative study with 4 research’s subjects taken based on purposive sampling. Data collection techniques use tests, namely Test of Logical Operations and Problem-solving Tests. Data analysis techniques include reduction, presentation, and data verification. The results of the study show that mistakes that are often made by students are less complete in writing what is known and asked about the problem. At the stage of devising a plan, students are wrong in determining the formula, the complete steps to be used, and do not write an answer. At the stage of carrying out the plan, students tend to immediately calculate what is known in the problem, not even writing answers at all. Students do not check the answer so that the results of their conclusions and conclusions are wrong.

Abstract

Tkinesthetic learning style; problem solvinghe purpose of this research was to study the profile of students' mathematical inductive reasoning abilities regarding visual, auditory and kinesthetic learning styles in solving mathematical problems. The research method used is qualitative with a descriptive approach. The results of the study showed that UNIPA mathematics education students tended to study with Visual Learning Styles. Students with this learning style tend to have inductive mathematical reasoning abilities that are better than inductive mathematical reasoning abilities of students learning with auditorial learning styles and those who learn with the kinesthetic learning style. Also, Mathematics Education students of University of Papua do not have the ability to examine the validity of an argument and find patterns or characteristics of mathematical symptoms to generalize. DOI: https://doi.org/10.30862/jhm.v1i2.1049

Abstract

This study aims to support students' understanding of learning comparative material and determine student learning outcomes incomparable learning through LAS-based guided inquiry learning models. This study uses a research design research method, which was carried out in class VII B SMP N 1 Berbah Sleman. The research instruments used were recording devices, written test sheets, field notes sheets, and questionnaire sheets. The results showed that at the 1st and 2nd meetings, students were seen to be still adapting to the learning design applied. At the next meeting, students can participate in learning activities better. Also, student learning outcomes indicate that the average value obtained by students is 71.57 with Minimum Completeness Criteria (KKM) for a comparison of 70.

Abstract

Mathematics is an essential field of science applied in nearly all areas of knowledge and individuals’ daily lives. Therefore, understanding students’ attitudes towards it and affecting their mathematics performance is an essential step for appropriate intervention to make the subject enjoyable. This paper aims to give a comprehensive picture of students’ attitudes towards mathematics and factors that affect their attitude and achievement. To achieve this objective, purposive and random sampling techniques were used. A questionnaire measuring students’ attitudes and their achievement in the subject was distributed to sample students in secondary schools. Data were collected using a questionnaire that was validated, pilot tested, and its reliability was determined. The data were analyzed using descriptive statistics. Students were asked to respond to a 5-point Likert scale questionnaire that includes factors that affect the teaching practice, teachers’ attribution, classroom climate, and students’ concern as a contributing factor for their attitude towards mathematics. Besides, five free-response questions were also included to get an in-depth view of students towards mathematics. Results indicated that students have an almost positive attitude towards mathematics. Factors contributing to poor performance include lack of practice, language deficiency, societal influence, comprehensive content of the subject, lack of background on the course, development of examination in mathematics, absence of tutorial, the need for more recreation, and lack of confidence. Students’ attitude towards mathematics has determined students’ achievement directly as well as the perspective of students, and their achievements are interdependent.

Abstract

The COVID-19 pandemic has significantly changed Indonesia's educational system, including its universities. In all subjects, including mathematics, face-to-face learning systems must be transformed into online learning systems. The purpose of this study is to examine student responses to online lectures delivered during the Covid-19 pandemic. The study employed a descriptive qualitative method, with 30 students enrolled in high-grade mathematics courses. The data collection process included document analysis, observation, and questionnaire-assisted interviews. After that, the data were analyzed using descriptive statistics techniques and presented in diagrams and narration. The results revealed that the online lecture process incorporated a digital platform, including video conferencing via Zoom, cloud meetings, WhatsApp, and the University's Lumen. The majority of students dislike online learning, even though the lectures are delivered like face-to-face lectures. They dislike online courses for two primary reasons: the unstable quality of the internet network and difficulty comprehending subject concepts.
