Abstract

This research paper examines the two most recent and successful experiments using artificial intelligence to learn Arabic. After analyzing these distinctive experiences, we can use them to bypass the traditional methods of teaching Arabic and move on to benefit from the tremendous development witnessed by artificial intelligence. The most prominent advantages that characterize this contemporary learning are the consideration of integration and comprehensiveness in teaching Arabic with all its fundamental skills. It is flexible, active, asynchronous learning that helps raise the level of focus and attention by using attractive and enjoyable audio-visual effects. The research compares the two best apps on smartphones to show that they are distinguished from many other apps in following a scientific methodology in teaching Arabic in an interactive, fun, and simple way, with fundamental differences that express the uniqueness of each of them from the other. The most prominent feature of (the Buss app) is to allow Arabic language learners to communicate electronically with native speakers of the language, correct their pronunciation for free, or collaboratively share any information with them. While the (Arabits) app was distinguished from others by starting with teaching the Arabic alphabet and focusing on innovatively teaching letters exits using sound and illustrations for each letter.

Abstract

This paper aims to analyze the translation procedures adopted by Ihsan Abbas in translating culture-specific items in Herman Melville’s novel ‘Moby-Dick.’ This novel has been selected as a case study because of its eminent status within the canon of American literature, its popularity around the world and the nature of its language. Translation procedures used for dealing with each CSI are investigated using a theoretical model that is developed in this study based on models proposed by Aixelá (1996) and Davies (2003). Particular emphasis is placed on displaying the translator’s masterful Arabic translation, his force and exquisite felicity of diction, and how he managed to mitigate some of the insuperable challenges faced in translating culturally embedded references, sea vocabulary, and cetological terms into a language lacking ready equivalents for such highly specialized terminology.

Abstract

Teaching Arabic, especially literature related to poetry, must also teach the character of Arabic writers. The flirtation movement was mixed with enthusiasm because it is found in all atmospheres, even in the poems of love, especially when it grows stronger and becomes the beloved in the comedy of heroism. For example, Antarah bin Shaddad, who collected the sword and the arrows, stabbed the honey in an atmosphere in which war and love were mixed for the sake of highness and the sublime (Al-Baldawi). Therefore, we find his poetry strong, devoid of softness and tenderness because he lived in the atmosphere of war, suffering, and the cruelty of its conditions. Thus, his language is enthusiastic, intense, and lacks indolence. The Arabic people are the sons of their environment. They are knights who stretch in the desert (the Arabian Peninsula) with all dignity and pride, confident in step, strong-willed, basking in the whims of freedom and fulfillment. The Arabs are assertive and do not slacken in the face of adversity, no matter the sacrifices it costs. This is how they love life and land—singing in it the hymn of war and flirting with those on it with the passion of love. It was a subject that occupied the interest of the pre-Islamic poets until they issued it at the beginning of his poems. That nature of art which is a psychological need, represents facts and consciousness as it is. The spirit of life awakens a person's sense of meanings that cannot be hidden or ignored, no matter how great or magnificent it is, because it is part of his breath (Abdullah). Thus, the psyche of the knights' poets was a song sung by the poem of love following the blockages and desertions they are experiencing and the separation or departure that makes them sleepless. It also provokes their anger towards those they love, as they convey their complaints in an unbearable alienation, continuing to talk about their suffering in search of solutions to resolve their crises and seeking to deal with the sad things (Abdel-Baqi).

Abstract

Weak (Muʿtal) verb is one of the aspects studied in Arabic morphology and used as a measure to assess students' abilities. Some students believe they have already mastered Arabic morphology once they can combine common verbs and pronouns very well. This is because, once the pronouns are combined with weak verbs, many students cannot produce the correct weak verb. Thus, the present study aims to survey the level of students’ mastery in Arabic morphology for weak verbs and identify the types of weak verbs that are students’ primary weaknesses. Based on this, a set of multiple-choice tests were distributed to semester one students from the Bachelor of Arabic Language in Professional Communication (LG242) program at UiTM Shah Alam. A purposive sampling technique was employed to test papers that had been administered while in the examination hall. A total of 40 students participated. Instrument reliability analysis recorded items number at 0.82, which is near 1.0 in the interpretation of Cronbach's Alpha score, while item quality showed good individual separating power (person separation exceeding 2.0). Descriptive analysis showed a moderate level of achievement in the students. The final result revealed that this aspect of weak verbs needs to be more emphasized like other aspects of Arabic morphology in the syllabus. The present study uses a quantitative survey method (cross-sectional). The respondents are 40 students in semester one of Arabic Language Professional Communication (LG242) UiTM, Shah Alam. In order to measure students’ level of mastery of the weak verb, a set of written test instruments was administered and distributed to the study respondents. A total of 20 items were adapted from last semester's questions, consisting of 20 questions in the form of multiple-choice questions. Since this item has not been ascertained in terms of its validity and reliability. The researcher conducted a reality and reliability test on the instrument. The study found that the first semester students of the Bachelor of Arabic in Professional Communication UiTM Shah Alam are weak in mastering the morphology of the Arabic language involving the weak type. This situation may occur due to several factors, such as lack of use of weak verbs in making sentences, and lack of revision of weak verbs for a long time after completing the Sijil Tinggi Agama Menengah (STAM) examination, and not mastering verb patterns very well.

Abstract

Since mid-2020, mostly caused by the Covid-19 outbreak which forced almost all academic activities involving massive participants to be cancelled due to health and safety reasons, the webinar suddenly became a very famous activity among learners. Therefore, this study aims to investigate the learners’ experience and perspective in this type of academic interaction, especially in Arabic webinar activity. Since this kind of interaction has become an upward trend that is applied massively by almost all institutions, observing it through a cross-sectional survey could be significant research. Thus, we use mixed (quantitative and qualitative-descriptive) methods to explore not only the perspectives of the participants but also to describe their experiences. It starts by providing data from survey results, classifying, analyzing, and presenting the analysis. Based on the recorded learners’ experience, it can be noticed that the Arabic webinars held by various Arabic language academies and institutions across the world were considered quite effective and efficient. Even though there are still many obstacles and shortcomings, especially from a technical point of view, this kind of web-based seminar can be one of the promising alternatives for Arabic learning when the Covid-19 pandemic is still ongoing. Most of the participants were satisfied with the performance of the Arabic language webinars they have participated in, indicated by a high score in the general assessment.

Abstract

The approach to learning Arabic often applied is only limited to a specific focus. This causes the quality of learning Arabic not to reach its maximum rate. This study aims to formulate the Arabic language learning approach framework through reflective thinking. This article is from a literature study using the descriptive analysis method. The data collection technique used in this research is through exploration and in-depth study of documents, books, journal articles, or other text sources related to the research subject. The primary data of this research is the educational framework "OECD Future of Education and Skills 2030 Conceptual learning framework-Anticipation-Action-Reflection Cycle for 2030". After collecting the data needed in the study, the data is reviewed, analyzed, interpreted, and packaged into a comprehensive learning approach framework. The results of this study indicate that the reflective approach guides the teacher's awareness in exploring, questioning, and reframing the portrait of learning that has been done to make interpretations and make appropriate and sustainable choices. The reflective approach to learning Arabic can be made through three stages of questions. First, questions about what happens in the classroom, questions for yourself as a teacher, and questions about teaching done by teachers. Meanwhile, practically, the reflective teaching approach can be realized in the following steps: mapping, informing, contesting, appraisal, and acting. Mapping deals with the question "as Arabic teachers, what should we do? Informing relates to the question "what is the nature of teaching?" Contesting relates to the question "how should we teach?" Appraisal relates to a question "How do Arabic teachers teach with new alternatives?" Acting is related to the teacher's understanding of new alternatives to teaching.

Abstract

No one is characterized by perfection except for God. Therefore, human error is a natural matter, and one of these errors is the linguistic error: as it is a common mistake and may happen to individuals. However, it becomes humiliating when it is repeated over and over again. This becomes more embarrassing if a company repeats the linguistic error or an institute of several departments with experienced and qualified staff. This paper highlights some forms and manifestations of linguistic errors in official institutions and major companies in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia. The indication of the effects of a linguistic error in changing the meaning or understanding the context; the paper also touches on the most significant causes of language weakness in companies and institutions and then the means of treating these language weaknesses. The causes of language errors are employees leaving Arabic, spoken and written, and lack of interest from entities. Whether government or not, the belief of some company owners that what is related to Arabic is a matter of formality and is not essential, the negative impact of some media underestimating the correct language, and a weak desire to master the language. The solution is to appoint a linguistic auditor in the institutions to review the integrity of the writing.
