Abstract

Nowadays, Arabic language pedagogy has improved its content to align with the updated and revised global knowledge. However, most Arabic language morphology books learned and used by non-native speakers are designated based on conventional information. The content relies mainly on discussing Arabic words' physical characteristics rather than acoustic characteristics. For instance, some contemporary Arabic linguists have not revised how phonics is formed, for example, the dual and Salamah plural structure. On that note, this study investigates the phonological rules and their explanation of how the dual and salāmah plurals are formed, which can be beneficial in teaching Arabic morphology. The study utilizes the descriptive analytical approach by identifying all types of dual and salāmah plural in the Arabic language and analyses based on the phonological framework using international linguistics transliteration symbols. One of the most important findings of the study is that the vocal structure of dual and salāmah plural is formed by adding suffix in the single last word, namely for dual: āni, and, and for salāmah plural: ūna, īna, ātu, and āti. The most critical phonological rules that formed these structures are the Arabic language's dissimilation and the syllable system. The benefits of this study for teaching Arabic are to facilitate morphological descriptions for non-native Arabic learners and present an accurate analysis using symbols and phonological rules, which is more significant to comprehend the nature of human language based on modern scientific thinking.

Abstract

The competency approach was among the essential pedagogies in learning in its various ways through the employment of modern linguistic and pedagogical theories that would contribute to a sound basis for building a linguistic faculty for the learner at all stages of learning, thus raising the level of the Arabic language. This study aims to highlight the role and contributions of the approach to educational competence and its teaching methods in the field of teaching Arabic, as it is a pioneering and widely used approach in many countries through its vision of the learner and its teaching methods, and attention to it on the basis that it is the center of learning and that the rest of the elements serve his interest to achieve education goals. This study used the descriptive analytical approach, which aims to collect data with accurate scientific descriptions of the study in its current report, relied on analyzing the content of a valuable group of references that dealt with the subject of teaching the Arabic language according to the competency approach, through balancing and comparing the references approved in the study. This made us believe that the competency approach is essential in learning and teaching the Arabic language.  The study found that there are many different teaching methods according to this approach: the project teaching method, the cooperative learning method, the strategic learning method, and the problem-solving method, which makes the role of the teacher direct, monitoring, and forming rather than memorizing, which contribute effectively to learning the Arabic language and that these methods can be combined to obtain an effective way according to the educational situation and learning objectives.

Abstract

The current covid-19 pandemic phenomenon has a major impact on the learning process at various universities in Indonesia. The adoption of the online lecture system caused by the pandemic has become a problem for some lecturers who are still unfamiliar with technological development. This situation is also experienced by a lecturer who teaches the Speaking Skill Course at a Higher Education in Central Kalimantan Province as a consequence of lacking motivation for the students to attend Speaking Course. To overcome this demotivation, the Arabic Students’ Association at the tertiary education institution organizes Speaking learning using the ”Peer Teaching Method. Therefore, this study aims to explore the speaking skill learning process. This study uses a qualitative approach with a case study type and uses two data collection techniques, namely observation and interviews. This study produced two findings.  First, there were several steps used by the organizational coordinator in implementing Speaking Skill learning using the peer teaching method, namely (1) selecting prospective tutors based on their scientific capacity and experience in the field of Arabic language learning, (2) Active learning process speaking skill organized by tutors using various interactive games such as nurakkizu, word chain, and ice breaking. Second, there are several motivational factors for students in participating in speaking skill learning using the peer teaching method, namely (1) The convenience of interaction between tutors and students is caused by the age distance that is not too far, (2) Peer tutor creativity in organizing innovative Speaking Skill learning, and (3) flexibility in communication time between tutors and students.

Abstract

Mediatization has transformed Arabic-language education from the personal to the instrumental and has provided a rapid, convergent approach to language learning. Such an approach, however, has distanced students from their education, as mediatized learning cannot convey the teacher's values. This article seeks not only to map the changing trends in Arabic-language education but also to analyze the implications of the ongoing mediatization process. Students' literacy influences their ability to learn Arabic through self-motivated, self-regulated learning and affects religious culture. This study finds that language learning has been transformed from a personal-religious cultural approach to an instrumental-functional one. At the same time, students have become dependent on technology and lost religious values, while their language has become formalized owing to the standardization of learning media. This study recommends improving media literacy to maximize students' achievements and free them from their dependence on media technology.

Abstract

Whenever a person learns a second or foreign language, who is aware of the grammar of his mother tongue alone, it significantly impacts learning the second language. Challenges faced in learning a second or foreign language can be decreased by the comparative study of the grammar of the two languages. Accordingly, this research tries to study sound assimilation in Arabic and Tamil languages comparatively. The research problem concerns whether there are similarities between the two different languages from two other families in the assimilation process. This research aims at a comparative study of the assimilation of sound between Arabic and Tamil languages. This object is tried to be achieved through the qualitative research methodology under descriptive analysis for the secondary data analysis. While both languages are available from two different families, the assimilation process happens in consonant letters alone. Assimilation occurs in both of these languages due to the factors like place of articulation, characteristics of sounds, and place of vowel and consonant letters. In contrast, in the Tamil language, a word is divided into morphemes, and the homogeneity between the morphemes impacts the assimilation of sound. However, dissimilation occurs in these two languages due to sounds' characteristics and vowels' impact on consonants. The morphemes of the Tamil language have unique meanings. This research has identified that the types of good assimilation are the same for the two languages, while complete assimilation is an added type in Arabic.  On such a background, this research would hopefully assist those who learn Arabic as a second language with the mother tongue of Tamil.

Abstract

Teaching the use of letters of meanings is an essential part of teaching the Arabic language, as these letters affect the meaning of speech, and their grammatical and semantic functions are synergistic to determine the meanings. The research aims to clarify the effects of the letters of meanings in determining the meaning by conducting an applied study on the verses that talk about the timing of determining the gender of the fetus in the Holy Qur’an. This topic was chosen for the presence of three verses that talk about it, each containing one of the letters of meaning. Thus, by studying the interpretations said, it is possible to determine the impact of the presence of these tools in the verses on determining their meanings. A complete extrapolation included what was mentioned in the most critical contemporary interpretations of the Holy Qur’an about the interpretation of the verses under study. Since this applied study deals with a topic of empirical science, it was helpful to cite the most important scientific references related to this topic. Both analytical and critical methods were assumed. The results proved the significance of the letters of meanings in determining the meanings and that they are indispensable in text understanding. It seems by specifying the semantics of (if) in the two verses of Surat An-Najm that they talk about the timing of determining the chromosomal sex of the fetus that occurs when the sperm fertilization occurs, while the letters (afterwhile and then) in the verses of Surat Fatir and Surat Qiyamah indicate that the verses talk about the timing of determining the organic sex of the fetus represented by the formation of genitals. By reviewing the textbooks of embryology and obstetrics, it was possible to clarify the accuracy of the meanings given by these letters. It is recommended to give the letters of meanings more attention during the educational process because of their widespread use in the Arabic tongue and their significant impact on the meanings that speech carries and performs

Abstract

This study identifies the contextual meanings of some selected Qur'ānic near-synonyms and the semantic differences that exist between them, as explained in the Holy Qur'ān. It also elucidates how the semantic differences between the selected Qur'ānic pairs are reflected in the English translations. Three pairs of Qur’anic near-synonyms are chosen for this study. The collected data are qualitatively analyzed based on the RC-S approach by Murphy. The findings show that some semantic differences exist between the selected pairs of Qur'ānic near-synonyms, and some semantic differences are not reflected in the English translations. An example of the investigated Qur’anic near-synonyms is the pair of جوع  and مسغبة (hunger). The findings reveal that مسغبة  (famine) denotes extreme and severe hunger of a large number of people. It is also associated with weakness, fatigue, exhaustion, and thirst. However, its near-synonymجوع  (hunger) is more general and does not have the same semantic features asمسغبة  (famine). It is shown that translating both words by Arberry as ‘hunger’ is inappropriate since the semantic differences between them are not reflected in the English translation. This study presents recommendations that could be useful for translators, readers, and interested researchers.

Abstract

The restriction style is a rhetorical style that has a significant effect on the meaning. This research aimed to investigate the identification between the theoretical effects of the restriction style as mentioned in the rhetoric books compared to its practical effects as found in the interpretation of al-Mufassal Surahs. The research followed the descriptive-analytical approach by the complete induction of different restriction methods in al-Mufassal Surahs. For the extracted restriction examples, the pillars and types of the restriction style have been determined according to the theoretical rules. Then these elements have been compared with what was stated in the interpretation of the examples. Results: The restriction style is reported in 352 locations of al-Mufassal Surahs including the restriction with some tools indicating it by the linguistic situation and the restriction with understandable verbal semantics by the content. The context had a critical role in determining the meaning of the restriction sentence. In addition to the context of the verse studied, the restriction style with its various methods relates to the context of this verse with its previous and next one. Also, each method of the restriction style is used in special locations and conditions. Although those methods share the meaning of restriction, there are essential differences between them, so it is not appropriate for one to be replaced with another. Moreover, the restriction style with its studied methods had a role in the argumentation because the sentence of restriction had a definitive and improbable significance that reflects the will of the speaker; thus, it affects the recipient. The research found that the practical effects of the restriction style go beyond the theoretical effects, which were limited to the meaning of the restriction. However, three ways enabled the restriction style to express the meanings in al-Mufassal Surahs interpretation. The first: is the clarification of meaning, in which the restriction style comes to highlight the basic meaning of the sentence. The second: reinforcing the meaning, in which the restriction style strengthens the characteristics of what is being talked about, whether they are positive or negative. The third: is adding new meanings. The restriction style adds other meanings to the meaning of restriction.
