Abstract

A study on the development of the i-Tourism smartphone application needs to be carried out to meet the needs of the Islamic and Shariah related tourism sector in Malaysia as well as enhancing the Arabic language as the learning medium and practical use in daily life. This study is conducted to examine the i-Tourism application, whose effectiveness is assessed by experts from the aspects of usability, ease of use, user satisfaction, and the technology of this application by using Fuzzy Delphi method (FDM) analysis. The research findings show that the experts rejected most of the items found in the four aspects, namely application usability, ease of use, user satisfaction, and application techniques. According to experts, the application developed is not too unique, and the information provided can still be accessed through a Google search. Some experts stated that the developed application seems to be still at an early stage because it does not have a lot of information and functions. As for the relation to learning and teaching Arabic, this mobile application is an output product based on research-based analysis which was enhanced and developed from theoretical aspects and phases of Arabic for specific purpose (ASP)

Abstract

The teaching and learning process during the pandemic has challenges for teachers and students. Both must go through the obstacles in online learning that must be implemented to achieve the learning goals and objectives. One way to achieve learning goals and objectives is by choosing an appropriate strategy. This study aims to examine the implementation of the inquiry method in an online class of excellent students development program implemented by UPB UIN Antasari Banjarmasin, Indonesia and student satisfaction with the learning process. As many as 95.31% of students stated that they were satisfied with the learning process, and 96.17% were delighted with the tutor's performance.  This study's results show that the inquiry strategy applies by providing an issue or topic. This is then analyzed by students and discussed with the teacher together. This strategy is the right step to improving students' abilities in learning foreign languages by making the learning process more meaningful. This is done by providing experiences to use in their daily lives.

Abstract

This study was conducted to evaluate the applicability of an Arabic text reading skills model based on the Integrated Dini Curriculum inquiry activities. This study uses a Design Development Research (DDR) founded by Richey and Klein (2007). The development process of this model is based on Constructivism Theory (Vygotsky, 1978) and a combination of three models, namely the Inquiry Model (Alberta Learning, 2004), the Cognitive Model of Reading Comprehension (McKenna Stahl, 2015), and the Interactive Reading Model (Rumelhart, 1997). This study involves three phases: analysis, design and development, and evaluation, but this article focuses on evaluation. The purpose study is to evaluate the Arabic text reading skills model based on inquiry activities using the Fuzzy Delphi approach involving eleven experts. The findings indicate a high consensus from the expert panel. In conclusion, this study produces a model of Arabic text reading skills based on inquiry activities to produce students who master the skills of reading Arabic text well. The study can also be used as a guide to help teachers plan more effective teaching and learning activities. The researcher suggested that the model of Arabic text reading skills based on this inquiry activity be detailed as modules in the future.

Abstract

This study falls under discourse analysis studies, focusing on using the academic register in Arabic research articles. Language register refers to using a form of language in a specific context. The use of language register varies according to the structure of discourse and field. For example, language register is used in scientific discourse, entertainment, politics, and health. Using accurate and appropriate scientific language in terms of vocabulary can demonstrate the strength of an article in reporting research results. The current study was conducted to identify the use of the academic register in Arabic via research articles focusing on academic vocabulary. This study was prompted by several issues, such as the weakness of students and researchers in producing quality research reports from the aspect of scientific writing, in addition to the limited number of studies about the academic language register in Arabic. This study was descriptive, using a qualitative approach and content analysis techniques. The unit analyzed was academic vocabulary words taken from six journal articles on Arabic language issues. All articles were written by native Arabic speakers and published by the Arabic journal “al-Majallah al-Urduniyyah fi al-Ulum al-Tarbawiyyah” in Jordan. The academic language register was analyzed using the approach of Ure and Ellis (1977). It was based on the 100 academic vocabulary words (Academic Vocabulary List or AVL) generated by Gardner and Davies (2014). The study's results found that all the suggested words from the AVL were used by Arabic-language researchers in writing their articles with various frequencies. Out of the 100 words selected from the AVL, 71 to 90 vocabulary words were used in each article. The most used word was the word دِرَاسَة which appeared 464 times, but the word شَجَّعَ appeared only 3 times, the lowest frequency.

Abstract

The ability of health workers to communicate in foreign languages is a current professional demand in carrying out their duties. The concept of communicative language teaching is considered effective in realizing the ability of nurses as health workers to communicate in Arabic for specific purposes. The use of speaking learning modules in Arabic for nursing students is one of the learning strategies that can support a communicative language teaching system to the needs of their profession as nurses. This study aimed to obtain expert agreement on various elements in designing and developing Arabic-speaking learning modules for nursing students. This study used the Fuzzy Delphi method to get consensus from the experts. The application of the method involved 14 experts in Arabic education from six different universities. The results of this study found that experts have reached a consensus on 26 tested items with an average value below the Threshold (d) of 0.2. The consensus percentage also showed scores above 75% on the 26 items. Meanwhile, only one item was rejected because it obtained a Threshold (d) value above 0.2 and a percentage value below 75%. Arabic language teachers and nursing students can use the results of this study as module users. They can also be a reference for researchers and developers of the next module.
