Abstract

Jewelry is not only an aesthetic element, but also a cultural artifact that reflects a community’s values, identity, and way of life. This study aims to develop a transformable jewelry concept based on Wae Rebo cultural values while considering the needs of middle-aged women as the main users. Women aged 46–55 were selected because they tend to prioritize comfort, ease of use, and product flexibility in their daily activities. This study uses a qualitative approach with a research-based design method through literature review, observation, visual analysis, and interviews. The data were analyzed using the ATUMICS framework to systematically translate Wae Rebo cultural values into the design concept. The study resulted in a set of transformable jewelry consisting of a necklace, bracelet, earrings, and brooch with a modular system that allows changes in appearance and function according to the user’s needs. Wae Rebo cultural values were interpreted through form, layered structure, interconnected elements, and the ideas of harmony and togetherness without reproducing cultural symbols literally. The resulting design emphasizes ergonomics, ease of use, and flexibility, making it relevant for middle-aged women while still preserving cultural meaning as its source of inspiration. Published Date: 2026-07-30

Abstract

One way to improve productivity, efficiency, product quality, and product value, while empowering farmers in agricultural enterprises, is through the development of agricultural technology. Previous studies have designed agricultural technology in the form of a corn husking, shelling, and sifting machine, referred to as the 3P machine. However, based on evaluation results, the machine still requires further development in several critical aspects. This study aims to develop the corn 3P machine and evaluate its effectiveness and efficiency. The methods used in this study include value engineering, while the machine design was developed using SolidWorks software. The result of this study is an appropriate technology product in the form of an integrated corn 3P machine with a working capacity of up to 936 kg/hour. The relatively affordable manufacturing cost makes this technology an economical and practical solution with the potential for widespread adoption by corn farmers.Published Date: 2026-07-26

Abstract

Generative AI (GAI) is reshaping how designers work, yet little is known about human-AI collaboration in design firms outside developed countries. This study explores how GAI changes ideation practices and designers' roles, proposing a human-centred leadership framework for managing that collaboration. Existing research tends to focus narrowly on either AI's technical capabilities or broad philosophical debate, leaving a gap between GAI's productivity gains and its risks to originality and creative identity. Using mixed-methods action research built around Design Thinking, 15 multidisciplinary designers at an Indonesian design firm involved on a real banking project. Interviews, observations, and reflective journals were triangulated with perception surveys after each mode. Designers reported ideation speeding up roughly tenfold versus manual work, though results varied widely between individuals. Everyone encountered contextually inconsistent AI outputs, making human revision a permanent workflow step. Notably, no participant could verify the accuracy of outputs generated through AI-to-AI interactions—a phenomenon the study terms "epistemic opacity." These findings suggest GAI is turning designers from technical executors into strategic curators, requiring mandatory human-in-the-loop verification to safeguard contextual accuracy, cultural relevance, and originality. Published Date: 2026-07-30

Abstract

The trend of matcha consumption continues to experience growing interest throughout Indonesia in 2025. This phenomenon presents an opportunity for the ceramics industry regarding the need for matcha consumption serving ware. This research aims to design a cup set using stoneware material, employing a User-Centered Design approach that focuses on user needs and preferences. To achieve this objective, the research begins with an industry analysis at a local pottery studio called Biomorphic, which uses stoneware material in its products. The research was conducted by identifying production potential and capacity using SWOT analysis tools. Subsequently, a market validation stage was carried out using Google Trends, and user needs analysis with a case study approach at a Japandi-style café as a reference for taste and presentation preferences. Design decision-making utilized visual scale analysis tools and product positioning. The research results comprise a cup set prototype using stoneware material with Japandi aesthetics in accordance with user needs. Validation was conducted through field testing, which demonstrated that the design aligns with Japandi interior aesthetics and fulfills the serving function for cafés.Published Date: 2026-07-26

Abstract

Modernization and globalization have brought significant changes in people's lives, including in local cultures such as Acehnese culture. These changes not only provide challenges, but also threats to the preservation of traditional values and cultural identity. Acehnese society, which is very close to Islamic values, is now starting to experience a cultural shift. For this reason, efforts are needed to preserve culture through media that are relevant to today's lifestyle, namely jewelry. This study aims to revive Acehnese cultural values through a design approach to hijab accessories, which are part of the customs of Acehnese women. Cultural values are analyzed through a typical Acehnese dance, namely the Ratoeh Jaroe dance. The method used is ATUMICS to produce modern hijab accessory designs that still maintain traditional aspects. The output of this study is hijab accessories in the form of ethnic-modern brooch and tuspin that can be a medium for cultural communication as well as an effective means of preserving Acehnese culture.Published Date: 2026-07-26
