Abstract

This study analyzes the implementation of authentic assessment in holistic learning and its impact on strengthening five student characters in a semi-modern Islamic boarding school. Using a qualitative case study at Pabelan Islamic Boarding School in Magelang, data were collected through interviews, observations, and documentation, and analyzed using the Miles and Huberman model, which includes data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing. The results show that authentic assessment not only assesses learning outcomes but also the process of character formation through the integration of cognitive, affective, and psychomotor aspects. Its implementation is carried out through project-based, performance-based, and portfolio-based assessments integrated into the students' daily activities. This approach has been proven to strengthen the main character values of sincerity, simplicity, independence, Islamic brotherhood, and freedom through reflective, participatory, and contextual learning. In addition, social interactions within the Islamic boarding school environment also strengthen the internalization of values on an ongoing basis. However, challenges exist in the form of limited teacher competency, administrative burdens, and student-to-student ratios. Therefore, ongoing training and strengthening of the evaluation system are needed to optimize the implementation of authentic assessment in holistic character education.

Abstract

Student learning experiences and psychological well-being are important issues in education, particularly amidst increasing academic demands that impact students' mental health. However, qualitative studies linking learning experiences, academic stress, and social support are still limited. This study aims to explore students' learning experiences and their relationship to psychological well-being. The study used a qualitative approach through semi-structured interviews with three purposively selected students. Data were analyzed using thematic analysis and validated through triangulation and member checking. The results indicate that interactive learning increases student motivation and engagement; that academic stress elicits diverse psychological responses depending on coping strategies; and that social support from teachers and peers strengthens students' emotional stability and self-confidence. This study provides a more integrated qualitative empirical understanding of the relationship among these three factors. It serves as a basis for developing interactive learning strategies, managing academic stress, and strengthening social support to improve students' psychological well-being.

Abstract

This study examines the intricate relationship between transformational leadership (TL) and organizational performance (OP) within the higher education sector in Indonesia, emphasizing the sequential mediating roles of quality assurance (QA) practices and organizational commitment (OC). Drawing on the Resource-Based View (RBV) and Social Exchange Theory (SET), this research proposes that transformational leadership fosters robust quality assurance systems, which in turn enhance employees' affective commitment, ultimately improving institutional performance. Data were collected via structured questionnaires from 427 academic and administrative staff in accredited public and private universities in Indonesia, analyzed using Partial Least Squares Structural Equation Modeling (PLS-SEM). The findings reveal that transformational leadership does not directly influence organizational performance (β = 0.082, p = 0.225), but exerts a strong positive effect on quality assurance (β = 0.672, p < 0.001), which in turn significantly enhances organizational commitment (β = 0.658, p < 0.001) and ultimately drives organizational performance (β = 0.551, p < 0.001). Most importantly, the full sequential mediation pathway TL → QA → OC → OP was confirmed significant (β = 0.244, p < 0.001; CI [0.171, 0.261]), demonstrating that transformational leadership improves institutional performance exclusively through the institutionalization of quality assurance and the cultivation of staff commitment. These findings contribute to theory by integrating RBV and SET into a unified sequential mediation framework, and offer practical guidance for university leaders and policymakers seeking to strengthen internal quality culture and human capital development in Indonesian higher education.

Abstract

Engineering graduates increasingly need technomathematics literacy (TmL) and computational tools. However, empirical evidence on the multidimensional TmL profiles of students across engineering disciplines remains scarce. This study aims to assess the level of TmL of students in five engineering study programs and identify competency deficits as a basis for curriculum design improvements. The study used a quantitative, cross-sectional survey design with 135 first-semester students. Data were collected using a validated seven-dimensional TmL instrument. The results showed that the level of TmL was generally low (M = 2.32), with the Electrical Engineering study program achieving a moderate category (M = 2.64). The software capability dimension was the lowest (M = 1.91) across all programs. In contrast, analytical dimensions such as data literacy (M = 2.49) and error sensitivity (M = 2.46) were relatively higher. This confirms the gap between analytical and computational capabilities. These findings indicate that software competencies have not been optimally integrated into the curriculum, thus requiring the integration of computational-based problem-solving, strengthening lecturer capacity, and adjustments to accreditation standards to support the development of TmL as a graduate achievement.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the integration of local wisdom in the management of social counseling services at Madrasah Aliyah in Banjarmasin City and analyze its contribution to the formation of students' social behavior. The study used a qualitative approach with a case study method through in-depth interviews, participatory observation, and documentation. The results showed that local values such as manuntung (never give up spirit), sasanggan (mutual cooperation), and basopan (politeness) were systematically integrated in the planning, implementation, and evaluation stages of counseling services. Counselors developed a narrative approach based on local values so that the counseling process became more contextual, close to students' cultural experiences, and more easily internalized in everyday life. This integration resulted in increased positive social behaviors in students, such as responsibility, empathy, social awareness, and the ability to work together. This study contributes to expanding the study of local culture-based counseling service management by demonstrating that local wisdom functions not only as a complement to moral values, but also as an effective pedagogical and counseling strategy to strengthen student character formation in the madrasah environment.

Abstract

This study examines how the Qur'anic principle of religious freedom is integrated into Islamic education and the da'wah practices of the Nahdlatul Ulama community in Salatiga. This research departs from the still-limited studies linking the value of religious freedom in the Qur'an with the practice of community-based Islamic education and da'wah. Using a qualitative case study design, data were collected through thematic analysis of Qur'anic interpretations and semi-structured interviews with religious leaders and Islamic education practitioners. The results show three main patterns. First, the principle of lā ikrāh fī al-dīn is internalized in da'wah through persuasive, dialogical, humanistic, and ethical communication without coercion. Second, this value is pedagogically transformed in inclusive and participatory learning to foster tolerance and respect for socio-religious diversity. Third, religious freedom is socially constructed through processes of externalization, objectivation, and internalization until it becomes a shared cultural norm. This study contributes to broadening the study of multicultural Islamic education by demonstrating that religious freedom is not only a normative concept but also a lived social and pedagogical process in Muslim communities.

Abstract

Physics identity plays an important role in shaping engagement, persistence, and professional readiness among preservice physics teachers (PSPTs). However, the mechanisms underlying its development remain underexplored in teacher-education contexts. This study aimed to examine how self-efficacy, interest, perceived recognition, and sense of belonging interact to shape physics identity among Indonesian PSPTs. A cross-sectional survey was conducted involving 347 PSPTs from several public universities in Indonesia. Data were analyzed using partial least squares structural equation modeling (PLS-SEM) to examine the relationships among the constructs. The results indicate that self-efficacy serves as a foundational predictor that significantly influences interest, perceived recognition, and sense of belonging. These three factors, in turn, contribute significantly to the development of physics identity. Mediation analysis further revealed that interest, recognition, and sense of belonging partially mediated the relationship between self-efficacy and physics identity. Overall, the model demonstrated moderate explanatory power in explaining physics identity among PSPTs. These findings suggest that the development of physics identity among preservice teachers emerges through the interaction of psychological and social factors rather than a single dominant variable.
