Abstract

This research is motivated by the lack of disaster mitigation education due to teachers' difficulties in conveying abstract disaster-related concepts in early childhood education. However, earthquake disaster mitigation education is crucial for children. This study aims to explore teachers' perspectives on the concept and urgency of disaster mitigation education, analyze teachers' views on the potential of interactive digital books for disaster mitigation, and identify challenges faced during the implementation of interactive digital book media in earthquake disaster mitigation education. This research employs a qualitative method with a case study design. The research subjects were teachers from Elhafa Plus Kindergarten, and data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. The research findings indicate that teachers explicitly emphasize the importance of disaster mitigation education in kindergarten to foster disaster preparedness in children. The implementation of interactive digital books yielded satisfactory results, with teachers rating as high as 90% that this interactive digital book is highly suitable for use in earthquake mitigation education in kindergarten. Teachers selected the photo-together feature as the most attention-grabbing feature because children are engaged in role-playing as if an earthquake is occurring. The challenges faced by teachers in implementing interactive digital book media include the need for digital devices with large screens like Smart TVs so that all children can see clearly and the challenge of managing children's tremendous enthusiasm for using technology such as this interactive digital book media.

Abstract

Mathematical understanding ability is one of the essential competencies that elementary school students must possess, as it serves as the foundation for solving various mathematical problems as well as real-life situations. However, in practice, many students still face difficulties in developing a deep understanding of mathematical concepts, which is often caused by the lack of varied learning strategies and low learning interest. This study aims to determine: (1) the effect of the Make a Match learning strategy on students’ mathematical understanding ability, (2) the effect of learning interest on mathematical understanding ability, and (3) the interaction effect between the Make a Match learning strategy and learning interest on mathematical understanding ability. This research employed a quasi-experimental method with a 2×2 factorial design. The population consisted of third-grade students at SDN Rawa Badak Selatan 09, with a purposive sample of 42 students. Research instruments included an essay test to measure mathematical understanding ability and a Likert-scale questionnaire to assess students’ learning interest. Data were analyzed using two-way ANOVA at a significance level of 0.05. The findings revealed that the Make a Match learning strategy had a significant effect on mathematical understanding ability with a Sig. value of 0.031 < 0.05. Learning interest also showed a significant effect with a Sig. value of 0.000 < 0.05. Meanwhile, there was no interaction effect between the Make a Match strategy and learning interest on mathematical understanding ability, as indicated by a Sig. value of 0.686 > 0.05. These results indicate that both an appropriate learning strategy and high learning interest independently improve students’ mathematical understanding ability. Therefore, the implementation of the Make a Match strategy can serve as an effective alternative in mathematics instruction at the elementary level, while simultaneously emphasizing the importance of fostering students’ learning interest to achieve optimal learning outcomes.

Abstract

The development of virtual technology encourages the innovation of learning media that is more interactive and contextual. The limitation of existing learning media in integrating spatial aspects creates an opportunity to develop media that meets learning needs. The objective of this research is to develop virtual learning media integrated with Spatial Data Science to enhance the geocapability of students in the Social Sciences Teacher Professional Program (PPG IPS). The development was carried out by utilizing Microsoft Power BI as a virtual dashboard development application capable of visualizing spatial data. The research employed a Research and Development (R&D) approach using the ADDIE development model (Analysis, Design, Development, Implementation, and Evaluation). Data were collected through three main types of instruments: validation sheets, a closed user trial questionnaire, and a user response questionnaire. Validation sheets were addressed to material, language, and media experts to obtain feasibility scores, comments, and suggestions for product improvement before the trial. The user trial questionnaire consisted of a closed multiple-choice questionnaire using a Likert scale and a user response questionnaire. The collected data were analyzed using quantitative analysis and qualitative analysis techniques. Quantitative data, which contained feasibility scores, were presented in tables, while qualitative data were presented through descriptive narratives. The research findings indicate that the developed learning media obtained an "excellent" feasibility score from both experts and users. Direct classroom implementation has not yet been carried out, so its effectiveness cannot be measured. Further research is recommended to test the media's implementation in a real learning situation to obtain a more comprehensive picture of its impact on improving the geocapability of PPG IPS students.

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the influence of using Canva media, the Project Based Learning (PjBL) model, and the level of learning motivation on students’ learning outcomes in the subject of Basic Graphic Design. The background of this research lies in the importance of digital-based learning innovations that can enhance creativity, motivation, and learning achievement, particularly in vocational education. Canva is considered effective in supporting idea visualization, while PjBL provides opportunities for more collaborative and contextual learning. The study employed a quantitative approach with a quasi-experimental design, namely a pretest-posttest control group design. The sample consisted of 75 tenth-grade students of TKJ at SMK Sejahtera Surabaya, divided into three groups: PjBL-Canva, PjBL-Drawing Book, and Conventional-Canva. Research instruments included a learning achievement test (25 multiple-choice items) and a learning motivation questionnaire (19 items), both of which were tested for validity and reliability before data collection. The findings revealed an increase in the average score from 77.29 in the pretest to 79.44 in the posttest. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test yielded a significance value of p = 0.000, indicating a significant difference between pretest and posttest scores. Levene’s test for homogeneity (p > 0.05) confirmed homogeneous variances, allowing further parametric analysis. Motivation analysis showed that the Canva group tended to have high motivation, whereas the conventional group was relatively low. Hypothesis testing using the Paired Sample Test and two-way ANOVA demonstrated that Canva media and the PjBL model had a significant effect on learning outcomes, with a meaningful interaction between learning methods and motivation. The study concludes that integrating interactive digital media with project-based approaches is effective in improving students’ motivation and learning outcomes and is therefore recommended for vocational education.
