Abstract

Objective: Post-anesthesia shivering is a common side effect that can cause complications due to the resulting increase in oxygen consumption. Oxygen consumption increases fivefold and can reduce arterial oxygen saturation so that if shivering is not treated it can cause an increased risk of myocardial ischemic disease. This study aims to determine the relationship between Spinal Anesthesia and Shivering in post-operative patients in the Recovery Room. Methods: The research design used was Cross Sectional with 50 respondents using Purposive Sampling technique. Using the Bedside Shivering Assessment score (BSAS) and Bromage score instruments, then analyzed using the Spearman rank test. Results: The results of the research showed that the bromage score for spinal anesthesia was 2, namely 24 respondents or (48%) and most of the shivering grades experienced by respondents were grade 1, 17 respondents or (34%). There is a relationship between spinal anesthesia and shivering with a value (P value) of 0.000. The correlation results obtained were (r=0.86), where the figure was in the correlation range (0.80-1.000), that is, the level of relationship between the two correlation variables had a very strong relationship. Conclusion: Observation of post-operative patients should be included in the operating room to prevent prolonged post-anesthesia shivering

Abstract

Hand hygiene is the most effective method for preventing healthcare-associated infections. However, its practice is still not optimally implemented in many healthcare facilities. Several factors may influence compliance levels, including age, gender, education, length of work experience, knowledge, attitude, and availability of supporting facilities. Objective: This study aimed to identify factors associated with nurses compliance in performing hand hygiene at RSIA (Obstetric and Pediatric Hospital) Ummuhani Purbalingga. This qualitative study employed an analytical survey with a cross-sectional design involving 46 respondents. The research was conducted at RSIA Ummuhani Purbalingga from January to June 2025. Sampling was conducted through direct observation and questionnaires (Google Forms). Data were processed using SPSS. Univariate analysis showed that respondents were aged 2535 years (76%) and 3645 years (24%), with 9% male and 91% female. Educational levels included Diploma III (55%), Bachelor of Nursing with professional degree (S. Kep., Ners) (43%), and Masters degree (2%). Length of work experience was 35 years (37%), 610 years (46%), and 1120 years (17%). Bivariate analysis using the chi-square test indicated no significant correlation between compliance and age (p = 0.743), gender (p = 0.152), education (p = 0.823), or length of work (p = 0.564). However, significant relationships were found for knowledge (p = 0.028), attitude (p = 0.006), and availability of facilities (p = 0.007). Knowledge, attitude, and supporting facilities are significantly associated with nurses compliance in performing hand hygiene. In contrast, age, gender, education, and length of work experience show no significant correlation.

Abstract

Background: Type 2 diabetes mellitus is a metabolic disorder characterized by high levels of glucose in the blood due to impaired insulin secretion or insulin resistance. Macrovascular disorders (eg coronary heart disease) and microvascular disorders (eg retinopathy) are complications that often occur in patients with uncontrolled type 2 DM. Proper treatment to avoid complications requires efforts to be made by type 2 DM patients to control themselves by implementing self-management. Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between respondent characteristics and self-management of type 2 diabetes mellitus in the internal medicine clinic at Santa Elisabeth Hospital, Bantul. . Methods: This research method is a quantitative descriptive study with a simple survey. The instrument used is the DSMQ (Diabetes Self-Management Questionnaire) questionnaire which is used to measure diabetes self-management. The number of samples in this study was 73 diabetes respondents who met the inclusion and exclusion criteria Results: The results of this study show that education and family history (Type 2 DM) have a p value >0.05. Conclusion: Based on this research, it can be concluded that education and family history (Type 2 DM) significantly influence self-management in Type 2 DM patients. It is hoped that the results of this research can be a guide in making decisions regarding appropriate nursing actions for Type 2 DM patients Keywords: Respondent Characteristics, Self Management, Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a chronic metabolic disorder characterized by elevated blood glucose levels due to insufficient insulin production or ineffective insulin utilization. Persistent hyperglycemia can lead to serious acute and chronic complications. One non-pharmacological approach to help reduce blood glucose levels is physical activity, such as foot exercises. Foot exercises are simple, easy to perform, do not require special equipment, and can be practiced independently by patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. Objective: To determine the effect of foot exercise intervention on blood glucose levels in a type 2 diabetes mellitus patient with the nursing problem of blood glucose imbalance in the internal medicine ward of RSUD Blambangan Banyuwangi. Methods: This scientific paper is structured as a case study using the nursing care approach, which includes assessment, nursing diagnosis, planning, implementation, and evaluation. The non-pharmacological intervention consisted of foot exercises performed for three consecutive days, with blood glucose levels measured before and after the intervention. Result: After performing foot exercises for three consecutive days, the patient's blood glucose level decreased significantly from 316 mg/dL to 124 mg/dL. This result indicates that the foot exercise intervention had a positive effect on blood glucose stabilization. Conclusion: : Foot exercise is proven to be an effective, simple, and easily applicable non- pharmacological intervention to help reduce blood glucose levels in patients with type 2 diabetes mellitus. This intervention can serve as a supportive therapy in the management of hyperglycemia.

Abstract

Background: Diabetes mellitus is a non-communicable disease whose prevalence continues to increase worldwide, including in Indonesia. The increase in diabetes cases at a young age is a particular concern because it is related to unhealthy lifestyles since adolescence. Lack of knowledge and attitudes about prevention among adolescents has the potential to increase the risk of diabetes in the future. This condition emphasizes the importance of understanding the description of adolescents' knowledge and attitudes about diabetes mellitus prevention as a basis for developing health education programs in schools. Methods: This study used a descriptive design with a cross-sectional approach which was conducted in September 2025. The study population was 563 students in grades VIII and IX with a sample of 233 respondents taken using stratified random sampling technique. Data collection was carried out using a structured questionnaire, then analyzed univariately to see the frequency distribution of adolescents' knowledge and attitudes about diabetes mellitus prevention. Results: The study showed that most respondents were aged 13–14 years (84.6%) and female (55.1%). The level of knowledge of adolescents regarding diabetes mellitus prevention was mostly in the low category with 107 respondents (45.8%), while the majority of adolescents' attitudes towards diabetes mellitus prevention were in the poor category with 222 respondents (95.1%). Conclusion: Adolescents' knowledge and attitudes towards diabetes mellitus prevention are still relatively low. This low level of knowledge and attitudes indicates the need for targeted and sustainable health education in the school environment to raise adolescents' awareness in implementing a healthy lifestyle from an early age.

Abstract

Objective: This study aims to determine the relationship between EDS and the concentration level of college students. Methods: This study used a cross-sectional design with a sample of 89 people. The EDS instrument was measured using the Epworth Sleepiness Scale and the concentration level instrument was the Stroop Test. Data analysis used the Chi-Square test. Results: The results showed that more than half of the college students experienced EDS (55.1%) compared to students who did not experience EDS (44.9%). Meanwhile, the concentration level of college students was in the poor category (40.4%), the less category (38.2%), and the moderate category (21.3%). The results of the statistical test showed a p-value of 0.021 (<0.05), meaning there is a significant relationship between EDS and concentration level. Conclusion: Based on the results of the research conducted, it appears that the analysis of the relationship between excessive daytime sleepiness and concentration levels in students indicates that students who experience excessive daytime sleepiness are more likely to experience it. Therefore, further research is needed to understand the factors that influence the occurrence of excessive daytime sleepiness and decreased concentration in students.
