Abstract

Background: The rate of non-compliance among hemodialysis patients, particularly with regard to fluid intake and dietary restrictions, remains very high, ranging from 30–81.4%. This study aimed to assess patient knowledge and compliance, while also reviewing the implementation and completeness of discharge planning documentation in hospital hemodialysis wards. Methods: This study used a descriptive correlational design with a cross-sectional approach, conducted from July 15–30, 2021, at Haji Hospital Surabaya and Muhammadiyah Hospital Lamongan. The participant criteria were patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis for more than three months, aged 21 years and over, able to read and write, familiar with internet usage, and able to operate Android-based applications. The total sample size was 105 individuals selected using simple random sampling. Patient compliance was evaluated using the End-Stage Renal Disease Adherence Questionnaire (ESRD-AQ), knowledge was assessed using the Kidney Disease Questionnaire, and the completeness of nurses' discharge planning was measured using the IDEAL Discharge Planning Checklist. Data analysis was performed using descriptive statistics using frequency distributions. Results: Respondents were mostly male (49.1%), aged 46–55 years (49.1%), married (87.3%), and still employed (59.9%). Patients' knowledge of fluid restriction was moderate to good, while adherence to fluid restriction was only adequate. The highest level of non-adherence was found in the fluid and diet aspects. The results of the discharge planning assessment showed that implementation and completeness of documentation were still adequate. Conclusion: The level of knowledge and adherence of patients with chronic kidney disease are closely related to the quality of discharge planning implementation carried out by nurses.

Abstract

Background: Nurses working in high-pressure clinical settings are frequently exposed to heavy workloads, emotional demands, and challenging working environments that may compromise their psychological well-being. Persistent occupational stress, combined with negative societal perceptions and stigma toward healthcare professionals, may contribute to psychological distress, depression, and broader mental health crises among nurses. Understanding the relationship between psychological distress and social stigma is essential to identify factors contributing to mental health problems in nursing professionals. Methods: A cross-sectional study was conducted between June and October 2021 involving 2,156 nurses working in high-pressure clinical units across Indonesia. Data were collected using an online questionnaire consisting of sociodemographic characteristics, measures of psychological distress, and social stigma perceptions, along with a modified Depression, Anxiety, and Stress Scale (DASS-21). A researcher-developed mental health crisis scale was also used to assess severe psychological conditions. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics, Chi-square tests, and Spearman’s rho correlation with a significance level of p < 0.05. Results: Most participants were aged 20–29 years (44.6%) and female (67.5%). Psychological distress was reported at moderate levels among 78.4% of respondents, while 18.5% experienced perceived social stigma. Severe depression was identified in 64.5% of nurses, and 63.5% reported severe mental health crisis conditions. Psychological distress and perceived social stigma were significantly associated with higher levels of depression and mental health crises among nurses (p < 0.05). Conclusion: Psychological distress and social stigma were significant factors associated with depression and mental health crises among nurses working in high-pressure clinical environments. These findings highlight the importance of implementing institutional mental health support systems, stigma reduction initiatives, and workplace interventions to protect nurses’ psychological well-being.

Abstract

Background: The quality of nurses' work life pays attention to the fulfillment of nurses' needs which will have an influence on nursing services and organizational productivity. The purpose of the study was to analyze the relationship between quality of nursing work life (QNWL) and nurse behavior in documenting integrated patient progress notes. Methods: This study is quantitative in nature with a cross-sectional approach and took a population of 40 nurses in abimanyu room of jombang hospital. This sampling technique uses total sampling. The independent variable in this study was QNWL, using the QNWL questionnaire instrument, while the dependent variable was nurse behavior in documenting patient development records, using a nurse behavior questionnaire instrument modified by the researcher and declared valid (calculated r = 0.904) and reliable (Cronbach alpha = 0.961) and tested using SPSS version 16.0 with the Spearman's rho statistical test. Results: The best QNWL indicator was Work life-Home life, with 34 respondents (85.0%). Meanwhile, knowledge, which is an indicator of nurses' behavior in CPPT documentation, showed the highest score with 35 respondents (87.5%), thus forming behavior in the positive category. Based on the results of the the Spearman's rho statistical test with the SPSS program, dengan nilai r = 0.476 and with significant value P = 0.002 Conclusions: This study concluded that QNWL among nurses at a hospital in Jombang was almost entirely in the good category, with nurses exhibiting positive behavior in documenting integrated patient progress notes

Abstract

Background: Low back pain (LBP) is a common musculoskeletal disorder associated with reduced lumbar flexibility and functional ability. Ultrasound and McKenzie exercise are commonly combined in physiotherapy; however, the optimal exercise dosage remains unclear. Objective: This study compared the effects of two dosages of combined ultrasound and McKenzie exercise (10 repetitions × 2 sets and 10 repetitions × 3 sets) on pain, flexibility, and functional ability in patients with LBP. Methods: A quasi-experimental pretest-posttest two-group design was conducted involving 40 patients with LBP aged 25–60 years and symptom duration of 4–24 months. Participants were divided into Group A (2 sets; n = 20) and Group B (3 sets; n = 20). Pain was assessed using the Visual Analogue Scale (VAS), lumbar flexibility using the Modified Schober Test (MST), and functional ability using the Oswestry Disability Index (ODI). Data were analysed using paired-samples and independent-samples t-tests at α = 0.05. Results: Both groups demonstrated significant improvements in VAS, MST, and ODI scores (p < 0.001). Group B achieved greater improvements than Group A in delta VAS (3.08 ± 0.44 vs. 2.15 ± 0.40), delta MST (1.41 ± 0.31 vs. 0.86 ± 0.27), and delta ODI (18.20 ± 4.25 vs. 12.40 ± 3.02), with p < 0.001 for all outcomes. Conclusion: Combining ultrasound with McKenzie exercise at 10 repetitions × 3 sets produced greater reductions in pain and greater improvements in lumbar flexibility and functional ability than the 2-set dosage in patients with LBP.

Abstract

Background: Low back pain (LBP) is one of the most common musculoskeletal complaints and is influenced by sociodemographic factors, including education level and economic status. Objective: This study aimed to determine the relationship between education level and economic status among patients with low back pain. Methods: A descriptive-analytic cross-sectional study was conducted among 50 LBP patients at Physiomar Clinic and Rehab.in Clinic, selected through consecutive sampling. Education level and economic status based on monthly household income were collected using a questionnaire. Data were analysed using the Chi-square test, Fisher's exact test, and Spearman's rank correlation. Results: Most respondents had low or secondary education (36.0% each), while 52.0% had a middle economic status. Low education was significantly associated with low economic status (Fisher's exact test, p < 0.001; OR = 108.5; 95% CI: 9.6–475.5). Education level was strongly correlated with monthly income (rho = 0.947; p < 0.001). Education and income were also negatively correlated with NRS pain scores (rho = -0.851 and rho = -0.806, respectively; both p < 0.001). Conclusion: Lower education and economic status were closely interrelated among LBP patients and were associated with greater pain severity. Targeted ergonomic education, health-literacy support, and improved access to physiotherapy are needed for vulnerable groups.
