Abstract

Background: Hypertension has become a serious global health issue, with the number of sufferers increasing from 650 million in 1990 to 1.4 billion in 2024. In Indonesia, the prevalence reached 34.1% in 2018, with a higher proportion among women at 36.85%. While pharmacological treatments are available, they often face constraints regarding costs and side effects. Hydrotherapy, specifically warm water foot soaks, serves as a safe and accessible non-pharmacological alternative to lower blood pressure naturally. Objective: This study aims to evaluate the effectiveness of warm water foot soak therapy in reducing blood pressure among hypertension patients. Methods: This study utilized a literature review design by accessing national and international journal databases, including Garuda, ProQuest, and PubMed. The search strategy employed keywords such as "hydrotherapy," "warm water foot soak," and "hypertension". Following the PRISMA method, 13 articles published between 2021 and 2025 were selected based on specific inclusion and exclusion criteria for further analysis. Results: Analysis of the 13 studies consistently showed that warm water foot soak therapy significantly reduces both systolic and diastolic blood pressure (p < 0.05). Meta-analysis results indicated an average reduction of 6-7 mmHg in systolic pressure and 5-6 mmHg in diastolic pressure. The physiological effect is triggered by peripheral vasodilation due to heat exposure, which reduces systemic vascular resistance. The most effective protocol involves water temperatures of 38-40°C for a duration of 15-20 minutes. Conclusion: Warm water foot soak therapy is an effective, economical, and simple non-pharmacological intervention that can be performed independently at home to help transition patients from hypertensive states toward normal blood pressure levels.

Abstract

Background: . The background of the study stems from limited access to mental health services in rural areas and the high stigma against ODGJ. Objective: to explore the role of therapeutic communication by village cadres in improving the psychological well-being of ODGJ in Blumbungan Village, Pamekasan. Methods: The study used a descriptive qualitative approach with in-depth interviews with cadres, ODGJ, families, and community leaders. Results: .The results showed that cadres implemented therapeutic communication through empathy, active listening, emotional validation, and motivation. The therapeutic communication of village cadres, characterized by empathy, trust, honesty, validation, and concern, contributed to improving the psychological well-being of ODGJ. From the perspective of George Herbert Mead's Symbolic Interactionism, this interaction helps shape a more positive self-meaning and increases social acceptance. This strategy increases openness, self-confidence, and self-acceptance of ODGJ and reduces the emotional burden on families. In addition, cadres serve as liaisons with formal health services. However, communication is sometimes accompanied by social control approaches such as intimidation, which is considered relevant in the Madurese cultural context. Conclusion: The study concluded that therapeutic communication by village cadres contributes significantly to psychosocial recovery, while also emphasizing the need for ongoing training and policy support.

Abstract

Background: Disasters are life-threatening events, whether caused by natural, non-natural, or human factors. Globally and nationally, the frequency of disasters continues to increase, with floods being the most prevalent type. Children and adolescents (aged 13–18) are a highly vulnerable population due to limited understanding of disaster mitigation. This vulnerability is particularly evident in Islamic boarding schools (pesantren) in Jombang Regency. The location of the Islamic boarding school, flanked by three major rivers (the Gedang, Gude, and Tambak Beras Rivers), places it at high risk of flooding. Furthermore, dense building density, untidy electrical installations, and the use of unsafe electronic devices increase the risk of fire. The lack of mitigation education and adequate infrastructure exacerbates the potential for loss of life in Islamic boarding schools. This study highlights the need to strengthen disaster preparedness for students as an effort to reduce disaster risk in religious-based educational institutions. Objective: This study to identify determine the relationship between the level of disaster knowledge and disaster preparedness among male and female students at Islamic boarding schools. Methods: This article used a quantitative research method with a cross-sectional design. Univariate analysis was used to analyze the data by creating a frequency distribution based on the categories of each variable. Bivariate analysis used the Spearman Rank Test. Results: The results of statistical tests using the Spearman Rank Test obtained a significance value of p = 0.0 (p < 0.05) with a correlation value of r = 0.505. This indicates that there is a fairly strong positive relationship between the level of knowledge and disaster preparedness of male and female students at Islamic Boarding Schools. Conclusion: There is a significant, positive, and fairly strong relationship between disaster knowledge levels and disaster preparedness among Islamic boarding school students.

Abstract

Background: Patients who have undergone treatment in an Integrated Cardiac Intensive Care Unit may experience psychological distress after discharge, including symptoms of post-traumatic stress disorder. Exposure to life-threatening cardiac events, invasive procedures, uncertainty, and the intensive care environment may contribute to persistent fear, intrusive memories, sleep disturbance, and emotional dysregulation. Spiritual-based relaxation technique, including Spiritual Emotional Freedom Technique, combines relaxation, spiritual affirmation, acceptance, and body-based stimulation to reduce emotional distress. Objective: This study aimed to examine the effectiveness of a spiritual-based relaxation technique in reducing post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms among patients after treatment in an Integrated Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. Methods: A pre-experimental one-group pretest–posttest study was conducted among 30 patients who had completed treatment in an Integrated Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. Participants were selected using purposive sampling. The intervention consisted of spiritual-based relaxation sessions delivered over three consecutive days. Post-traumatic stress disorder symptoms were measured before and after the intervention using a standardized PTSD symptom questionnaire. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Results: The mean age of participants was 56.4 years, and most participants were male. The mean PTSD symptom score decreased from 42.6 ± 7.8 before the intervention to 28.9 ± 8.1 after the intervention. The median PTSD score decreased from 43.0 to 29.0. The Wilcoxon signed-rank test showed a statistically significant reduction in PTSD symptoms after the intervention (Z = −4.62, p < .001). The mean score reduction was 13.7 points, indicating clinically meaningful improvement after spiritual-based relaxation. Conclusion: Spiritual-based relaxation technique was effective in reducing PTSD symptoms among patients after treatment in an Integrated Cardiac Intensive Care Unit. This intervention may be considered as a simple, low-cost, and holistic nursing approach to support psychological recovery after intensive cardiac care. Further studies using randomized controlled designs and larger samples are recommended.
