Abstract

Abstract

Background: Stigma against people with mental disorders often extends to their families or caregivers (courtesy stigma). In Rubaru District, caregivers experience social pressure in the form of exclusion and ridicule, which hinders the patient's recovery process. The Mental Disability Task Force has developed a special communication strategy to address this phenomenon. Objective: to identify and analyze the communication strategies of the Mental Disability Task Force in reducing stigma against caregivers of people with mental disorders in Rubaru District. Methods: This article used a qualitative method with an instrumental case study approach. Data were collected through in-depth interviews, observations, and documentation. Informants were selected using purposive sampling techniques consisting of the Mental Disability Task Force, the Community Health Center Mental Health Officer (PJ Keswa), TKSK, and ODGJ caregivers. Data analysis was conducted using the Creswell model, which consists of six stages: collecting and organizing files for data, reading the entire text and forming initial codes, describing the case and its context, using categorical aggregation to form themes and patterns, interpreting the data, and presenting the data. Results: The Mental Disability Task Force implemented a communication strategy through the innovation of “Gersif Gasawa” (Family Mental Awareness Movement). This strategy includes stages of research, planning, implementation through door-to-door education and audio-visual media (NOBAR), to cross-sector reporting. The persuasive and interpersonal approach has proven effective in changing negative perceptions within the community into more supportive behaviors and acceptance of caregivers. The main obstacles encountered are resistance from some of the patients' families and limited understanding of mental health within the community. Conclusion: Integrated communication strategies based on local wisdom can reduce the level of social stigma against caregivers. Cross-sector collaboration is key to success in creating an inclusive environment for the recovery of people with mental disorders and the welfare of caregivers.

Abstract

Background: The quality of nursing care is often associated with low caring behavior of nurses, this can be caused by a lack of empathy, low therapeutic communication, and a lack of emotional presence of nurses in providing care. One factor believed to influence caring behavior is emotional intelligence. Emotional intelligence is believed to play an important role in helping nurses understand, respond, and build interpersonal relationships with patients. This study aims to determine the relationship between the level of emotional intelligence and the caring behavior of nurses in caring for patients at Anugerah Bunda Khatulistiwa Hospital, Pontianak. Methods: This study used a quantitative correlational design with a cross-sectional approach. The study population was all 64 inpatient nurses, and the sampling technique used total sampling. The research instruments consisted of the Schutte Self-Report Emotional Intelligence Test (SREIT) to measure emotional intelligence, and the Caring Behaviors Inventory-24 (CBI-24) to measure nurses' caring behavior. Data analysis was performed using the Spearman's Rank correlation test. Results: The results showed that almost half of respondents with high emotional intelligence had good caring behavior (28.1%), and vice versa. Further analysis showed a significant relationship between emotional intelligence and nurses' caring behavior with a p value of 0.003 (<0.05) and a correlation coefficient of r = 0.367. This value indicates a correlation in the low category with a positive direction, which means that the higher the nurses' emotional intelligence, the better the nurses' caring behavior in caring for patients. Conclusion: This finding emphasizes the importance of developing emotional intelligence as an effort to improve the quality of nursing services.

Abstract

Background: Hypertension remains a significant public health concern and is one of the primary risk factors contributing to cardiovascular morbidity and mortality. Besides pharmacological management, the implementation of non-pharmacological approaches, including relaxation-based techniques and herbal interventions, is important in supporting optimal blood pressure regulation. Dzikir meditation and roselle tea are complementary therapies known for their potential calming and blood pressure lowering properties; however, evidence regarding the effectiveness of their combined application is still limited. Objective: To identify the effectiveness of a combination of dzikir meditation and roselle tea consumption on reducing blood pressure in patients with hypertension in RW 2, Temas Subdistrict, Batu City. Methods: This article was derived from a quasi-experimental study with a pretest–posttest control group design involving 40 hypertensive patients selected by purposive sampling and divided into an intervention group (n = 20) and a control group (n = 20). The intervention group received dzikir meditation and roselle tea, while the control group received standard pharmacological therapy. Blood pressure was measured before and after the intervention and analyzed using the Wilcoxon Signed Rank Test and Mann–Whitney U Test. Results: The results showed a significant reduction in systolic and diastolic blood pressure in the intervention group after the intervention (p < 0.05). In contrast, the control group did not show a significant change in blood pressure (p > 0.05). Furthermore, there was a significant difference in blood pressure reduction between the intervention and control groups for both systolic and diastolic pressure (p < 0.05). Conclusion: The combination of dzikir meditation and roselle tea consumption is effective in reducing blood pressure in patients with hypertension and can be considered as a complementary therapy alongside pharmacological treatment.

Abstract

Objective: Currently, many hypertension sufferers tend not to comply with their prescribed treatment. Low adherence to hypertension treatment is a significant obstacle in hypertension management. This study aims to analyze the effectiveness of health education and self-monitoring strategies on hypertension management compliance. Methods: The study used a quasi-experimental design with a two-group pre-post test approach, involving 40 respondents who were divided into treatment and control groups through purposive sampling. Health education used booklets and animated videos. The adherence instrument used the MMAS-8, while monitoring of signs, symptoms, and risk factors was recorded using a hypertension control card. Data analysis was performed using the Wilcoxon test and the Mann–Whitney test. Results: The results of the study showed that in the pre-test, the average level of compliance of the treatment group was low (5) and the control group was low (2.52). In the post-test, the average level of compliance of the treatment group increased significantly (7.51) and the control group remained low (1.83). The Wilcoxon test results obtained a p value = 0.00 (<0.05), meaning there was a significant difference in the level of compliance pre and post in the treatment group. Meanwhile, the Mann-Whitney test results obtained a p value = 0.000 < (0.05), meaning there was a significant difference in the level of compliance post between the two groups, so it was concluded that Health education based on the Health Promotion Model and self-monitoring strategies were proven effective in increasing compliance with hypertension management. Conclusion: It is hoped that community health centers and health workers can implement health education using booklets and videos to increase understanding of hypertension management and use the Self-Control Card to monitor signs, symptoms and risk factors in hypertension sufferers.

Abstract

ABSTRACT Background: Bullying among adolescents remains a significant public health and mental health issue, particularly in school settings. Bullying behavior negatively affects adolescents’ psychological well-being, social functioning, and academic performance. Nurses play an important role in school-based mental health promotion through preventive and promotive interventions. One innovative approach that can be implemented is the use of positive affirmation delivered through audiovisual media. Objective: This study aimed to examine the effect of a positive affirmation video on bullying behavior among adolescents in a junior high school in Cimahi, Indonesia. Methods: This study employed a quantitative quasi-experimental design with a pretest–posttest without control group approach. The sample consisted of 60 junior high school students selected using purposive sampling. Bullying behavior was measured using the Indonesian version of the Illinois Bullying Scale (IBS), which has been tested for validity and reliability. The intervention consisted of a positive affirmation video delivered in three sessions, each lasting 10 minutes, within one week. Data were analyzed using descriptive statistics and the Wilcoxon signed-rank test. Results: The total bullying score before and after the intervention remained the same; however, significant changes were observed across subscales. There was a significant decrease in aggressive behavior and bystander behavior after the intervention (p < 0.001). The bully subscale did not show a statistically significant change (p = 0.193). An increase was observed in the victim subscale (p < 0.001), indicating improved awareness and recognition of bullying experiences among students. Conclusion: Positive affirmation video intervention effectively influenced specific dimensions of bullying behavior, particularly by reducing aggressive actions and passive bystander behavior while increasing students’ awareness of victimization. This intervention can be considered a practical and innovative nursing strategy in school-based mental health promotion to prevent and manage bullying among adolescents.
