Abstract

This study aims to investigate the discourse of stigmatization of childfree individuals from Indonesian citizens’ perspective, represented in netizens’ comments on the childfree by choice of the Youtube account Menjadi Manusia. This study used a descriptive qualitative method with a critical discourse analysis approach from van Dijk’s perspective. The study conducted three stages of research: data collection, data analysis, and presentation of results. The data source was the comments column in the childfree by choice discussion video on the Menjadi Manusia Youtube account. Data in the form of written utterances were collected by reading and note-taking. The data were analyzed in aspects of discourse structure, speech strategies, and social cognition. The results elucidate the macro text structure is embodied in the theme. By this meaning, the utterances align with pro-childfree, neutral, and contra-childfree values. Contra-childfree utterance is more dominant rather than pro-childfree and neutral. Contra-childfree utterance uses several strategies: quoting religious text sources, using rhetorical questions, analogies, and argumentative language. Individuals who do not want a child are labeled with a negative stigma as they are considered against Indonesian society’s religion and sociocultural values. It indicates that the discourse tends to be dominated by pronatalist ideas that require women to have children.

Abstract

The number of Sundanese language speakers is 34 million, according to the 2020 census by BPS. However, many young urban Sundanese do not speak Sundanese. Salminen and UNESCO say the language situation is considered vulnerable and endangered. Meanwhile, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Research, and Technology (Kemdikbudristek) states that the vitality of the Sundanese language is safe. This research aims to describe the interference of the Indonesian language on Sundanese language writing in compositions of the young Sundanese generation. Interference is one of the characteristics of language users' poor understanding of the language they use. The high level of Indonesian language interference in Sundanese student compositions shows that students have a poor understanding of Sundanese. The study uses a qualitative descriptive method. Analysis was conducted using Sundanese letters, words, and sentences based on the theory and Sundanese language dictionary. The study results show that Indonesian language interference in Sundanese student compositions occurs in phonology, morphology, and syntax with low categories. It indicates that the Sundanese language skills of the young generation in Bandung are good. Therefore, the vitality of the Sundanese language is still considered safe according to the Ministry's decision.

The data used are mostly extracted from Indonesian proverb books, and ones found in proverbs of other languages. First, the data are classified based on plants or parts of plant possibly concurred. Later, the investigation is directed toward the various possibility the combination might represent. Through careful analysis, it is finally found that the plants or parts of the plants to be combined can be between different plants, parts of the same plants, one plant and its parts, parts and different plants, and parts of different plants. Plants or parts of plants to be combined are perceived as: to have the same quality for representing something hard or impossible to change, something must be committed by both parties, the same destiny to be experienced, or how should someone to behave; the different quality of plants or parts of the plant is used to represent unexpected thing (better or worse) to happen, not easy to give up and always depend on something available, could differentiate between good and bad matters, to use the worse quality things first before the better ones, imbalance competition, ability and sincerity to accept the good and bad aspect of things; one plant or parts of the plant are older (coming out earlier) or younger (coming out later) than the others to represent the difficulties for the older people to change, any occasion follows cause and effect law, the new comers usually should or could not drive out or defeat the natives; and phonological representation to show that sometimes the proverbs are created on the basis of aesthetic achievements instead of merely on metaphorical similarities.

Abstract

This study aims to describe the speech delay of a 4-year-old child with speech delay, identified as A. This study analyzes the child's spoken language processes and the causes of the speech delay. The researcher used a descriptive qualitative method with a single-subject research technique. Data were collected using observation and interview techniques with informants, namely A, A's parents, and teachers at school. Based on the analysis, the following findings were observed: (1) the accuracy of speech in some consonant sounds has changed, specifically the articulation of consonant sounds /m, p, b/ to consonant sounds /h/; (2) the placement of stress, tone, coding, and duration is appropriate, but the stress in speaking sometimes causes the child to lower or raise the intonation of word sounds in certain circumstances; (3) the choice of words is less varied; and (4) the conversation is on target when focused. The factors that contribute to A's speech delay are genetic factors from one of the family members and environmental factors. When A was experiencing language acquisition, there was a lockdown due to Covid-19, which resulted in limited interaction and less stimulation from close individuals and the environment where he lived.
