Abstract

Brown seaweed (Kappaphycus alvarezii) is one of the important aquaculture commodities in Indonesia. Tissue culture seaweed seed has higher quality than the natural ones, but tissue culture seaweed seed still imported from a specific area. Media and transportation period effect the seed freshness. The study was conducted to determine the effective of transportation medium and the optimal of transportation period. The study was conducted in the Ketapang’s marine, South Lampung. The study using experimental methods with completely randomized factorial design with two treatments and three replication for each treatment. The first treatment is the difference transport media (banana stem and sponge), and the second treatment is the difference transport period (24, 48, and 72 hours). The parameters observed were transport temperature, the seed freshness, seaweed growth weight, and water quality factor (pH, dissolved oxygen, salinity, temperature, water clarity, and flow velocity). The results showed that the seaweed was transported by the media banana stem had seed freshness and weight growth higher quality than the sponge media, and the transportation period affected the seed freshness and the seaweed growth weight.

Abstract

Asian seabass (Lates calcarifer) is one of the fish has a high economic value and widely cultivated in Indonesia. However, Asian seabass cultured constrains by infectious diseases such as Viral Nervous Necrosis (VNN). Application of antibiotics during cultured cause resistance and residues in the body of fish. Disease prevention method by use immunostimulant develop to enhances non-specific responses. The purposes of this research were to know the best dose of black cumin (Nigella sativa) that can increase the non-specific immune response of Asian seabass after injected by VNN. This research used four treatments (0 g black cumin/kg of feed, 25 g black cumin /kg of feed, 50 g black cumin/kg of feed and 75 g black cumin/kg of feed). Total leucocyte and differential leucocyte analyzed descriptively. The results showed that dose of 75 g black cumin/kg of feed is the best  for increase the non-specific immune response of Asian seabass which had been seen from the highest total leucocyte. However, there was no effect of administrated of black cumin to Asian seabass after injected with VNN which had been seen from the RPS.

Abstract

Puhawang Island have a potency to developed for aquaculture especially cage system. Aquaculture with cage system will be an optimum production if the environment still support for fish to growth. Environment faktor that support the growth of fish and production of cage system called carrying capacity. The aim of this research was to determined the ability of waters around Puhawang Island to support cage system especially for cultivated grouper with floating net cages. This research was conducted using descriptive method in August to September 2014. The result shown that water quality in Puhawang Island still suitable for cage system. Holding capacity could be optimized to 53.550 tons ( with carrying density is 107.100.000 of fish). This production could be reach if used 39.600 units with 6x6x3m in volume dimension, and maksimum density is 25 fish each unit cage

Abstract

Biofloc system is a technology in aquaculture which utilized waste mainly in form of anorganic nitrogen. The anorganic nitrogen will be converted into protein in the form of bacterial biomass by heterotrophic bacteria. The growth of heterotrophic bacteria is stimulated by the addition of a carbon source. This research aimed were to study the absolute growth, daily growth rate, specific growth rate and survival rate of tilapia and sangkuriang catfish which fed on biofloc. The research used Completely Randomized Design (CRD) which consisted of two treatments and four replication. The study lasted for 40 days, with the frequency of feeding biofloc was three times a day ie morning, afternoon and evening. Growth sampling was done every 10 days, observation of water quality every 8 days, and ammonia test was done at the beginning, middle and end of research. The results showed that tilapia which fed on biofloc have absolute growth, daily growth rate, specific growth rate, and survival rate better than those of sangkuriang catfish.

Abstract

Indonesia is an archipelago country with potential marine and coastal. Simeulue Island, NAD is one of the leading island in west of the Republic of Indonesia and located in Hindia Ocean. Simeulue have potential marine waters such as fish, lobster, crab and sea cucumber as well as ecosystems such as coral reefs and mangroves. Simeulue is an area that affected by the tsunami or Smong (in local term means running) at eleven years ago on 26 December 2004. A big change that happen is the accretion on most coasts such as in the area around the northwest to the northeast. This accretion marked by the widening of the coast towards the sea and the lifting of the corals to the surface because ofthe movement of tectonic plate subduction Sunda arc (Natawidjaja, 2007). This study aims to determine the condition of the water quality and the potential suitability of a marine tourism in this region to foreign countries. Location of study at Ganting Beach, Village of Kuala Makmur, Simeulue regency, Simeulue Island. The research was conducted in August 2015. The number of sampling station is 12 points with purposive sampling method. Observation of water quality parameters are pH, temperature, salinity, turbidity, dissolved oxygen, brightness, BOD5, odors, oil and debris. These parameters are then mapped using software ODV, analyzed and compared with the sea water quality standard for marine tourism as well as the characteristics of the coast to the suitability index of recreational area. Water quality parameters showed pH values ranged from 10.05 to 10.25; temperature from 29.80 to 31.90 (° C); salinity from 27.60 to 32.70 (ppt); turbidity from 0.00 to 3.50 (NTU); dissolved oxygen from 7.46 to 8.77 (mg / L); BOD5 from 0.897 to 1.076 (mg/ L); brightness 8.50 to 15.40 (m); no smell; no oil layer; and no debris. The results showed that the water quality P. Ganting is very suitable for recreational activities (index 77, category S1) and it is suitable for swimming and also for boating tourism activities, banana boats and jet skis (index 16, category S2).
