Abstract

The decline in teacher performance has an impact on the quality of education in an organization or institution including Islamic educational institutions. Therefore, Islamic educational institutions as an organization require a systematic and dynamic change or improvement so that teacher performance becomes a form of sustainable development in the future. The purpose of this study is to determine the management of change in Islamic educational institutions, and its implementation on teacher performance. The method used in this study is qualitative research with a literature study approach. Data is processed with the steps of research, reading, screening, data management, and drawing conclusions. The results of this study indicate that there are 6 variables that influence an organization in making changes, namely organizational structure, values, culture, organizational systems, technology, and organizational strategy. In addition, there are two ways that can be done to implement changes in Islamic educational institutions so that the organization can develop optimally. The first method includes formulating an Islamic education system, designing quality education in Islamic educational institutions, and reconstructing values in Islamic educational institutions. Then the second includes getting support and involvement from people who are key to formal and informal leaders, developing strong plans, supporting consistent plans and behaviors, developing activities and programs that support successful implementation and become a critical part of the overall plan, celebrating short-term and long-term successes, and communicating non-stop. In addition, it is also known that changes or improvements in teacher performance can be made based on Lewin's change model which consists of the unfreezing stage, the move met stage, and the refreezing stage.

Abstract

Background: Challenges to character education in higher education are issues that must be resolved in an effort to shape student character. Student dormitories are considered a space for character development outside of academic classes. This study focuses on the contribution of student dormitories in shaping student character education with an emphasis on the aspects of orderly, polite, and caring. Objective: This study was conducted to see the influence of the dormitory environment in shaping student character in higher education holistically. Methods: This study used a mixed method approach. Results: The results showed that the contribution of student dormitories has a significant role in shaping student character, especially in the Faculty of Islamic Studies, through a pesantren-based education model that integrates moral, spiritual, and social values in students' daily lives. The t-test results show that the significance value of the influence of the dormitory contribution on character is below 0.05, this means that there is a significant influence between the dormitory contribution on student character building. The regression equation results show Y = 37.423 + 0.696X. This means that an increase in dormitory contribution by 1% leads to a 0.696% improvement in character development. Conclusion: The results of this study contribute that the implementation of a dormitory curriculum that prioritises character education as a whole is different from the approach generally found in other universities that focus more on academic aspects alone.

Purpose: This study aims to analyze and examine strategies for modernizing the competencies of Islamic religious education teachers. Method: The method used in this study is qualitative with a phenomenological research type, and data collection uses observation, interviews, and documentation, while data analysis uses the Miles and Huberman model, namely data reduction, data presentation, and conclusion drawing, while research triangulation uses methodology in the method. Result: The results of this study show that the implementation strategy for modernizing the competency development of Islamic education teachers at Al-Qudwah High School includes: further studies, teacher group formation, discussion programs, seminars and training, weekly monitoring, the dhuha prayer program, literacy, comparative studies, rewards, Al-Qudwah Care, and others. Conclusion: These strategies for modernizing teacher competency have resulted in an improvement in the quality of Islamic education teachers' competencies in the areas of pedagogy, personality, social skills, and professionalism. Abstract

Background: Morality and character education remain critical concerns in Malaysia, with growing evidence of moral degradation among youth. Prior studies report inconsistent findings on the role of friendship, while research on religious commitment remains limited in the Malaysian context. Purpose of the Study: This study investigates the influence of friendship quality and religious commitment on students’ Islamic character. Methods: Using a quantitative correlational design, data were collected from 380 respondents and analysed using partial least squares structural equation modelling (PLS-SEM) with SmartPLS 4.0 software.  Findings: The results indicate that friendship has a positive but modest effect on students’ Islamic character (effect size = 0.022), whereas religious commitment shows a substantially stronger influence (effect size = 0.208). Together, both variables explain 33% of the variance in Islamic character (R² = 0.330). These results highlight that while peer interactions contribute to character development, internal religious commitment plays a primary role. Conclusions: These findings highlight the importance of institutional support for religious engagement in higher education, even in non-religious universities like Universiti Utara Malaysia. Measures such as creating supportive environments for religious practice, promoting ethical reflection, and setting clear boundaries for social interactions can help maintain and strengthen students’ Islamic values while guiding peer relationships and preventing negative external influences. Future research is recommended to explore the remaining 67% of unexplained variance as potential factors.

The internalization of values occurs through modeling, advice, and practical habituation, although social media and global culture present significant challenges. Conclusion: The study confirms the relevance of classical texts as instruments for character education and recommends innovative teaching methods to align with the needs of today’s youth. Implication: The contribution of this research lies in strengthening the position of Hilyah Thālib al-‘Ilmi as a strategic reference in Islamic boarding school education and offering a character curriculum development model that is adaptive to the challenges of the globalization era.

Abstract

Background: This study explores the role of attachment parenting, educational programs, and paternal exemplarity in shaping the character of community leaders in Riau Province. The research is grounded in the understanding that fathers hold a central role in moral and religious education, serving not only as family heads but also as primary educators who model Islamic values through daily behavior. Purpose: The study aims to examine how emotional attachment, consistent religious guidance, and exemplary conduct contribute to the formation of virtuous character among children who later become influential figures in their communities. Method: Using a qualitative descriptive approach, data were collected through in-depth interviews with five community leaders representing diverse backgrounds. The analysis employed an interpretative framework of Islamic parenting and character education theory. Result: The findings reveal that attachment parenting, when aligned with Islamic principles of affection, discipline, and consistency, fosters emotional security and moral resilience in children. Moreover, fathers who serve as moral exemplars strengthen their children’s sense of responsibility, integrity, and faith-based leadership. Educational programs emphasizing religious values further reinforce these formative experiences. In conclusion, the study highlights that the harmonious integration of emotional closeness, spiritual education, and role modeling plays a crucial role in cultivating individuals with strong faith, noble character, and social responsibility traits essential for community leadership in the contemporary era.

Abstract

Background: This study stems from the urgency of integrating science into the Islamic education system as proposed by Azyumardi Azra, particularly in response to the challenges of globalisation and technological developments. Research Objective: The objective of this study is to analyse Azra's ideas on scientific integration through various theoretical perspectives in order to assess their relevance and contribution to the development of contemporary Islamic education. Method: This study uses a qualitative method with a literature study approach, through a systematic search of Azra's works in the form of books, journals, and scientific articles, as well as relevant supporting literature. Results: The results show that Azra's concept of scientific integration emphasises the synergy between religious and general knowledge as the foundation for the modernisation of education, enabling it to respond adaptively to social change and technological advances. This idea positions education as a vehicle for shaping believers who possess intellectual and scientific competence. Thus, Azra's thinking provides a philosophical basis as well as a practical direction for the reconstruction of a progressive, open, and contextual education system without losing its Islamic identity. Conclusion: This study concludes that the integration of science is an important strategy in strengthening the role of education as a driver of scientific progress and Muslim civilisation in the modern era.
